It's always fun when an author claims their work contains no politics, because either they're blatantly lying, or they genuinely think they're telling the truth and you get a lot of insight into what assertions about human nature they regard as so obviously and self-evidently true as to lie outside the political sphere.
I'm starting to think that a lot of fantasy writers who are writing Heroes and Wars and Quests would be a lot happier writing the magic equivalent of a sports anime.
If the thing you want to focus on is your magic system, good news! You can just... do that. You don't need to know the entire history of Japan to understand why the anime boys want to win their volleybasketskateball tournament; it's no different in a secondary world setting.
If you're uncomfortable with the human cost of war and don't want to glorify it... good news, you don't have to! A tournament arc gives you all the fun of competition and rivalry and struggle to improve, without the uncomfortable knowledge that your protagonist's subordinates are likely doing awful things offscreen.
Similarly, if you like getting into your antagonists' heads and humanizing them, but don't like writing the kind of monster that makes a good high fantasy antagonist- good news! In a tournament arc, the only thing that makes an antagonist an antagonist is that they want the same thing Blorbo wants and are fighting them to get it.
Struggle to come up with a plot? Tournament arc has defined beats. Struggle with making high stakes feel cool and not corny? Tournament arc. Want to write a big ensemble cast? Tournament arc.
Tournament arc is there for you. Put Blorbo in Tournament Arc Mouth.
Anyone else suddenly want to eat lemons and limes?
i hate eating food in the summer. why are you making me do this. i should be able to pull a reverse bear gambit where i eat a lot of nutrients all winter and fall and spring and then i sleep all summer. alternately if it's hot outside i should be able to survive comfortably by eating fruit and lettuces and perhaps sometimes ice cream. there should be NO physical consequences for doing this when it's above, like, 65F or 18C.

In what was originally intended as a âlow-key girls weekend,â four of bride-to-be Julia Rose Atkinsonâs closest friends were financially ruined this week after her bachelorette party completely bankrupted her fave girlies. âThe weekend turned out a bit more expensive than we had anticipated, but of course it was all worth it to celebrate our ride-or-die chica,â said newly insolvent bridesmaid Zara Khan, who quietly canceled her dental insurance after being hit with a surprise $800 charge for damage to the pink party barge chartered for the occasion.

for those unaware today india experienced one of its biggest protests in half a decade. there were protests all over the nation for various causes but the major one was in delhi. all we asked for was the resignation of the education minister because he's failed the students of this nation time & time again. but we were met with brutality, the police had barricaded the main site of protest (jantar mantar). metro stations were shutdown, the public was restrained from reaching the protest site and all the adjoining areas had signal jammers to make sure the crowd had no access to constant updates. they had us blocked from all the sides. they were lathi (baton) charging students from one side & releasing tear gas from the other. you couldn't walk 100 m on streets without having a tear gas shell thrown at you. there were many students, women & kids bleeding â some from their head. some couldn't walk anymore. the police had removed their nameplates & acted with full impunity to resort to unprecedented levels of violence. they were pelting stones at us, beating up people for no reason, forcefully detaining them and attacking us constantly with tear gas & rubber bullets. they wouldn't let you exit either. the crowd was peaceful & looking out for each other yet they were met with violence. i made a friend who was all alone & she asked to join me & my friend because a policeman wouldn't leave her alone. he constantly prodded her for personal info, invited her back to the jeep saying they have food there, wouldn't stop following her around. you couldn't call or ask anyone for help, we were left to fend for ourselves & be on a constant lookout if you did not want to be beaten up to death by police. all for what? asking a resignation? shame on this country.
Youth-led movement calls on education minister to quit in one of Indiaâs largest anti-government rallies in years
More than 10,000 protesters braved tear gas and baton charges in their largest challenge yet to PM Modi's government.
Magic system where magic is treated like work in 19th-century England. Magic is something that everyone is naturally able to do, and you can learn different skills and do certain tasks with it, but it's tiring and wears out the body.
Lower class people use magic all the time--it's necessary for survival--and they're hired to do magic for the upper classes, whether they're working the fields, hiring out their magic for factory work, or working as a maid in an upper class home. Gentlemen are allowed to use magic in a few specific "refined" occupations.
Upper-class ladies are allowed to do almost no magic, except for tiny decorative uses--magic is "low", and using it too much destroys your status in society. Upper-class ladies also regularly go insane from "magic hysteria". Some women are starting to notice this and are arguing for women to be allowed to do healthy amounts of magic. Other people find this idea coarse and unfeminine.
The world and story would be shaped by what the magic actually does (so there's a reason to write this as fantasy rather than pure historical fiction). I'm sure there have to be plenty of stories like this already, but it's still an interesting framework.

Dragon cassian has entered the chat
Nesta stiffens in his arms. "So you've trapped me here. Is this a habit of your kind, locking women away?"
Cassian chuckles against her hair, trying to get his fill of her scent before she inevitably storms off. "That's a myth, you know, the dragon locking the maiden away in a tower. But I can tell you that any maid that finds her way in a dragon's lair will be very satisfied."

i made a post like this before but I can't find it now. so. I'll just redo it.
What's the first "big news story" you remember from when you were a kid?
It's something I love to ask mixed-aged groups sometimes because I think it's really interesting to see the responses. I've gotten answers from the Olympics of [whatever year] to Watergate to more recent stuff from my niblings.
My first news thing I remember is the OJ Simpson trial. I vaguely remember watching the news with my grandparents before that, but that's the first story I remember, in part because my second grade teacher had us go play so she could watch the verdict đ
I remember walking down the street and seeing a sign protesting George W. Bushâs war on Iraq, so I think that.
I don't think every character ever needs to be shipped with someone maybe they just need to be shipped in some sort of box alone to a location

Purple Harlequin Toad (Atelopus barbotini), family Bufonidae, endemic to the uplands of central French Guiana
This species status is in dispute amongst herpetologists, some consider is to be a subspecies of A. spumarius. A few otheer species are considered to form a âspecies complexâ with A. spumarius.
This species does not have a CITES listing, but the population is in decline, and may be CRITICALLY ENDANGERED.

twilight princess funniest zelda game ever made
one of the reoccurring minor plots is that a 3 year old with the mental capacity of an adult is trying to abolish capitalism in the big city. there's a yeti couple living in an abandoned mansion and the guy yeti is like 10 times the size of and more visibly monstrous than the girl yet they made him a malewife. you can collect insects for a little girl that is insane about them and gives you strange and off-putting dialogue about each bug everytime you give her one and practically threatens you if you try to leave her home without giving her bugs she doesn't have yet. one of the modes of transportation in this game is being shot out of a giant canon by a depressed clown and landing on your feet with no injuries. there's a spaghetti western style minigame where the objective is to talk to 20 different cats. a chicken attempts to flirt with link. they made tingle into a sexyman caricature.
i completely forgot about ooccoo while making this post. this fucking thing:
and, of course, her son too
Every time someone says that Twilight Princess is too grimdark and serious, I want to point them to this post. Itâs a very silly game.
