Right off the bat, chapter 12 did have me laughing to tears a little bit. I can really appreciate how I was unfortunately relating to the genocidal maniac with the main characters trying to fuck right one the actual poker game.

Goofy gooners aside, there's something particularly painful reading the adoptive mother sacrificing herself for the main character while seeing my own mom deal with chemo. Soul crushing. But that's just reading, how wonderful it is to be alive and have artists weaving tapestries that use light years of words to describe these feelings and experiences, and for us to get it deep within our souls.

L mom. Don't go into FUCKING HOSPICE and recommend a book where the mom is in a coma for most of the fucking book. (I still liked it. Everyone was do goddamn MEAN to Clary and ALL THE FUCKING TIME until the epilogue. I truly hope book 2 is better now. My biggest critique? Zohran Mamdani isn't mayor in this book yet. And honestly? It was almost a deal breaker but the Knicks still won the NBA finals in 2026 after a 29 point come back so anything is possible.

Y'all I finally got a genderfluid main character fuck yeah. I loved it a lot, fuck what all those fuck ass story graph reviews say they can go fuck themselves.

I really enjoyed a significantly less dark story where there's not significant character death, as amazing as a tool it is to invoke emotion, it's so refreshing to just have a Disney movie every once in a while.

And a token lesbian for the road. As well as some gay angst. i love to see it.

What helps is Belle is my favorite Disney princess. I'm not really sure if the real red blooded Disney haters would like this book tbh.
