I finished Queen’s Play last night and oh my got that was brutal but so good! So emotional. Francis Crawford is Problematic Fave of my heart now, and shall i think not ever be shaken from his place there. A lot of it was very difficult, like the 1550 treatment of animals, and Robin Stewart, and to an extent the whole of the Thady Boy Ballagh ordeal. But it was all necessary, all needed for the story and not gratuitous, and not there to make you sneer at the brutality and stupidity of the past, but to show how even their brutality worked by certain rules which even Lymond could not avoid but only bend to his advantage when he could.

i realize this is probably going to end very badly for me but in QP i got very invested in Oonagh O’Dwyer, and in Francis/Oonagh in spite of everything and because of everything and… i’m a quarter or there abouts into Disorderly Knights and mostly this is just painful. I also realize fully that there are too many more books to this series for this to be part of the plan, plus talk about anvil dropped RE: Phillipa at the beginning of the book. But. it’s Unfair and i mostly just hope Oonagh survives and i feel certain she won’t and i don’t want to see it happen. I was able to forgive her for Christian because it felt so inevitable but this. This does not.
