it's always tragic when fandom universally decides one member of the m/m ship du jour is The Top and the other is The Bottom. like first of all i need a nutritiously balanced diet. you're giving me yaoi scurvy. but it's doubly tragic when, if we accept this hypothetical world without switches, they're wrong about who would be topping whom
people have started misinterpreting me in the notes so to clarify: i'm not complaining about individual authors writing characters with preferences about what sex acts they want to perform. i'm saying when there is an obvious consensus across dozens of different fic authors that they are having penetrative sex and one guy always tops and one guy always bottoms based on nothing but vibes, that doesn't happen in a vacuum and often betrays a certain reading of the characters that i sometimes disagree with. anyway thank you all for enjoying the phrase "yaoi scurvy" i'm very proud of it
head empty, only them

So, can I just say I do find it a little frustrating when table top watchers adamantly refuse to call fjord "fjord stone." Don't get me wrong, back in 2021 and up until we got more mighty nein content I get why. Because for most of us the understanding was fjord didn't attach himself to the name due to his past trauma and the insult he felt from it. But at this point we know he himself refers to it as his name.
Caduceus talking about the stone family, it's ties to the wildmother, the coincidence of a calous name giving him a deep meaningful purpose, these are all things we should accept when we talk about fjord's name.
He is a stone because being one strengthens his ties to the wildmother. A goddess who helped him finally achieve a dream he could be proud of. It connects him to Caduceus, the man who guided him to a better path. He is fjord stone because the assholes who slapped the name on it don't get to make him feel like shit for having it. Because they didn't know what they threw away.
The animated show is definitely changing it so that he uses the name to feel more important despite how much he doesn't care for it. Because having a last name means you're someone at least. But it will be beautiful to see him actually come to love it.
Fjord found pride in his name, and I wish more people would see that.
Flirting in front of my salad...
Thanks to them I believe in love

@softness-and-shattering RE your tags since I didn't want to overtake OP's post.
It's complicated? Because I don't think it's any one specific thing but it definitely is a combination of things? There's definitely some orc-coded racism (he and nott are the only player characters that experience anything like racism in the campaign, and yeah orcs and goblins both have real world Charged Histories that tie in with real actual racism) and there's also the queerness (Fjord's fandom popularity as a character DRAMATICALLY plummeted when he became "unshippable" with his major gay ships - Caleb was paired with Essek, Molly was Molly (keeping vague for spoiler reasons), and Caduceus was revealed to be AroAce), but I also think the fact that a LOT of his story revolves around Toxic Masculinity and his relationship to what it means to be a good man is ALSO a part of it? Also some leftover misogyny from people being pissed that he "won" Jester (because so many people saw her relationship as a reward for other characters).
Like don't get me wrong, if someone doesn't vibe with a character I 100% don't think that's an issue, we all have preferences. But I've seen over the years people be WAY harder on Fjord than other characters, and I just kinda squint and wonder "hmm. wonder if fandom would say that if he was explicitly queer or more white coded."
personally im "transmasc bisexual disaster" fjord for life and it drives me crazy when people call him cishet because he presents masculine and loves a woman. but that's just me.
