I say this often - weather is an important topic. It's not small talk to me. What's going on in the sky is a big deal.

The tornado just went into the lake and missed us but the smoke came back. Much milder now but still bad air. The hallways smelled of garlic when I came back from catsitting. I don't know what this says about the building's air function.

A tornado warning. Is that why it's so calm suddenly?

The building didn't send an official email but the hallway air seems cooler and clearer now so I took the blanket away from the end of the door and I think we're past the worst now.

They can't turn back on the hallway air because the air outside is still too bad. Yet outside feels better than the hallway. The smoke hit so quickly on wednesday the building didn't have time to turn it off before it became part of the hallway air. I wonder how clean the outside has to be before they suck it into the hallways again. It's lingering in my apartment and I had to take a tylenol for my sinuses and the hallway is supposed to give us fresh air but right now that is where less fresh air comes from. This is only my 15th summer in Toronto but it's only the last few years where the obvious smoke, orange sky and apocalypse sun has been on display.

As I explained to my relieved coworker yesterday, the world cup final is Sunday. Soon the Canadians and Americans allergic to soccer will be at peace again. Not the Mexicans though, the non football lovers of Mexico will continue to have it in their face constantly.

There are baby coyotes on the roof of my friend's workplace. If they can fly or shimmy up drainpipes now it only underlines the city is theirs.
