In a nutshell: If we don’t want food containers made of petroleum with carcinogenic chemicals and built to last forever, then why do we accept them as appropriate for use? MORAL: Know what is harmful in the products you purchase. Buy and practice safer alternatives and the industry will shift to your demand. _ Have you every bought carryout and been #bold enough to take your own #containers? Have you ever thought about ordering #less in order to preclude the need to #carryout? No, it’s not a #crime to carryout #food. Nor is it #illegal to ask for a carryout container. But does your carryout container need to be made tough enough to last #forever? Does it need to be made from #petroleum (oil)? Does it need the carcinogenic #chemical #benzene? Does it need to be made from one of the least #recyclable materials (#6 - the recycle code found on the container. This code varies from 1-7 and coincides with the ability to #upcycle / #recycle products. The higher the number, the less ability to recycle )? If we don’t want food containers made of petroleum with carcinogenic chemicals and built to last forever, then why do we accept them as appropriate for use? For most, we simply don’t know about ALL the #negative impacts. WE HAVE THE #POWER TO CHANGE THIS: We are talking about #purchasing power-the ability to buy what you #want. As long as we are in a #consumer #driven #world (ruled by capitol) with purchasing power, you are in the #CONTROL seat of the #industry. Honestly, if we could even get the plastic lid off the bottle and change the fact that the bottle is metal (although far more Eco/healthy than plastic. Hello fellow #humans - The simple story is this: We, the #community are wasting precious #resources; large #industry is profiting from #wasted resources and the #government is playing for both teams. There is #conflict within the community. The #plastic bag industry, as well as its proponents are in a position to lose large contracts because of the proposed plastic bag ban, #SB270. Concerns from industry are due to loss of #money. According to an op ed in the San Jose Mercury, the industry stands to lose $100 million in annual revenue (annual profit), which equates to approximately 18 billion bags sold. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (#EPA), #Americans are only recycling around 6% of those 18 billion bags, leaving about 16 billion bags littered. On the other side of this conflict there are the #consumers or users of these #bags. Some of these #people are arguing that government bans are a #control mechanism, while others argue the ban is an answer to reduce #litter. Indeed, both arguments from the community are true. A #ban is exactly that–a ban or control on the the use of a product. Is this ban going to #conserve the #environment? Only time will tell that. The reason we, the community are experiencing bans and #laws that prohibit us from doing things is because, as a majority we have not proved that our ability to make decisions is conducive to preserving the environment. This is ironic because the government, which is allowing and condoning environmental #disasters is also the one controlling our actions to minimize them. The #moral of the story is: Bring your own bag (BYOB) and consume less #products, therefore less trash. The more aware we are of what we do, the more aware we can be of how to progress in a truly sustainable way. Hey #friends - Here are some simple facts from the #Environment Protection Agency. The #EPA is a #federal agency created by the government. Created in late 1970, their #mission is to #protect #human #health and the environment. Here are some additional facts from the EPA’s website regarding waste: • 32 million tons of #plastic #waste were generated in 2012, representing 12.7 percent of total #MSW. • In 2012, the United States generated almost 14 million tons of plastics as containers and packaging, about 11 million tons as durable #goods such as #appliances, and almost 7 million tons as nondurable goods, such as #plates and #cups. • Only 9 percent of the total plastic waste generated in 2012 was recovered for #recycling. • In 2012, the category of plastics which includes #bags, #sacks, and #wraps was #recycled at about 12 percent. • Plastics also are found in #automobiles, but recycling of these materials is counted separately from the MSW recycling rate. According to a Poll conducted by the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), 78 percent of people voted for the EPA to issue more regulations. Hey Friends- Last Tuesday, the State of #California #banned the single-use #plastic #bag. "We're the first to ban these bags, and we won't be the last," said Gov. Jerry Brown. The #Huffington Post published this in an article last Tuesday, “Under #SB270, plastic bags will be phased out of checkout counters at large grocery stores and supermarkets such as #Wal-Mart and #Target starting next summer, and convenience stores and pharmacies in 2016. The law does not apply to bags used for fruits, vegetables or meats, or to shopping bags used at other retailers. Hey friends! What a #light for the #world this little girl is. We had the opportunity to see how one Los #Angeles family is using their yard. This entire house, every plant on the property is #edible. The amount of #reusing of materials in this house is quite amazing as well. They collect the condensation from air conditioning unit and all their kitchen utensils are #vintage pieces. These people are a wonderful asset to this world. We are #thankful for these experiences and #people that are impacting the world in a good way! #dumbplastic

The #world is at constant #conflict. The reason,... The world is ruled by few. This land is not your land or my land, it's owned land and it's massively #surveilled land, it's #war land. The plight of all #people is in the hands of very few. All the #movements, #equal rights, the #environment, true #democracy (not super power backed #imperialism hidden behind the veil of democracy), etc. these #movements are not mutually exclusive. These movements are about one goal, which is a better home for all people. That goal is far #superior than the current, #corporate government goals. That goal is far more valuable than #GDP growth. Our #morals have been tamed by material possessions and seemingly-sturdy life for this #generation. The power is hard to #challenge and for those that have the tiniest inkling to exercise your moral rights-rights uninhibited by #money, rights powered by the #ethical #conscience within your #brain, #rights that can and will make a difference, if you let them #germinate into action-for those people, please stand up. The world needs you. The world needs a #new thinking. What is that thinking? We will never find out if we continue down the same path #forever. #dumbplastic
