xbox allowing bethesda to take over 10 years just on one game with no release date no more trailers than the teaser trailer and allowing them to take so so sooo long while forcing obsidian to shut down their current projects and make a fallout game is actually ridiculous . they have a favourite child and its todd loser howard
I think it's appropriate to be upset that obsidian will have their current projects either put down or put on hold but I think it's a good thing that obsidian is taking over from Bethesda. Bethesda in recent years has shown that they don't have the competence to put out a game on time and especially not to put out a good game *glances over at starfield* while obsidian in recent years has shown that they're able to get their games out at a reasonable time at a great quality. All of that which is to say Bethesda is not competent enough at the moment to handle the fallout property and so it's a good thing it's getting handed over to obsidian even if it does put their current games on pause or kill them. I think everyone should give obsidian a chance with fallout again because they made the best fallout game and have the competence to make another great fallout game. (Yes, I know most of this is a huge run-on sentence)
no actually , it's not a good thing .
obsidian's projects aren't "put on hold" ; THEY'RE STRAIGHT UP CANCELLED . JUST FOR THIS FALLOUT GAME . the ONLY REASON you're hearing avowed 2 is still being worked on is because a select few employees are holding onto that game's development until they're forced onto another project . that's not put on ice .
you cannot spin any part of this as a good thing .
fallout new vegas was lightning in a bottle ; this is xbox's version of trying to re-capture that game with corporate being forced down obsidian's neck . you CANNOT get that kind of game with THIS KIND OF WORKSPACE .
obsidian is being FORCED to cancel their in progress works all because asha sharma wants more fallout . instead of actually getting bethesda to reconfigure their long as hell detrimental process , they're forcing other studios to pick up bethesda's slack .
it is NOT a good thing for a studio to GET THEIR WORKS CANCELLED to then be FORCED to WORK ON ANOTHER'S STUDIO IP JUST BECAUSE THE CEO WANTS MORE FALLOUT . this WILL NOT SAVE ANYTHING .
this just fucks over obsidian in the process . obsidian can and WILL DIE if this game is fucked . THATS NOT A GOOD THING TO HOLD OVER A STUDIO'S HEAD !
if bethesda is not competent enough to work on their own IPs , maybe their current dev cycle should be restructured . maybe xbox shouldn't lay off hundreds of their employees . instead of forcing another studio to pick up their slack .
Obsidian didn't just work on fallout New Vegas. Several developers who worked in obsidian were from Black Isle studio after it dissolved, which means technically a lot of people from obsidian did make fallout 2. This gives me even more confidence that they can make a good fallout game. Also The only confirmed cancellation at this moment is avowed 2 and the rest are pretty much just put on hold. I feel like you're exaggerating a lot of things, The things wrong with Bethesda right now is they don't have enough developers and they aren't able to meet deadlines with good quality, laying off people won't fix anything. Is it a good thing that they don't have a fallout title on their hands while they're trying to fix their studio. Also, I'd like to argue that It shouldn't even be considered bethesda's IP because they only made one good fallout game (fallout 3) and the rest were pretty mid. Xbox is currently trying to pull themselves up by their bootstraps because they're a failing company. I think people who are getting extremely mad about this and need to think about the logistics a bit and how It's much more profitable to Xbox to have a new fallout title during this time Where their company is struggling still.
