I cannot tell you how much I LOVED having Natasha and Yelena half-joke/half-berate Alexei about the hysterectomies. It was something that was brought up in Age of Ultron to be like “oooh, see how monstrous Natasha is, she can’t even have kids 😱” But Black Widow didn’t do that, it brought it up in a way that was so casual that you got the full effect of just how violating this was for the girls in the Red Room. It didn’t make them better agents, it didn’t make them efficient killers. It was a brutalization and violation of their bodies, plain and simple, just one in a long line of horrors. And they got to joke about it, sure, but because it was their pain to make fun of and to show Alexei that the Red Room wasn’t just strength and honor. The anger was there, and it was completely justified. I’m so glad they included that scene.
