Discover new music

Ruelle has a very distinctive sound in her music - dark, dramatic, with heavy drums and maybe even a little unsettling. Thanks to that her songs have appeared in many television shows such as ‘The Shannara Chronicles’ or ‘Wynona Earp’. The song ‘Monsters’ is my personal favorite from her new releases thanks to the deep bass that you can hear in the back. Fun fact:  Ruelle's first television placement was a song in a Japanese iPad commercial.

This is one of the songs that I feel super sentimental about because Of Monsters And Men is one of my favorite bands of all time, and ‘King And Lionheart’ was the first song by them that I’ve ever heard. ‘King and Lionheart’ is a song Nanna(the lead vocalist) wrote for her little brother that she doesn’t get to see that often. Her brother lives in Canada and she lives in Iceland, a world apart. Understandably, she feels very separated from her only sibling. You can see that story reflected in the music video. Fun fact:  They contributed the track ‘Silhouettes’ to The Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack and their song ‘Sinking Man’ is featured on The Walking Dead: Original Soundtrack – Vol. 1.

At the end of 2017 MisterWives released their newest single called ‘Never Give Up On Me’ which was a pleasant surprise because it’s been a little over a month since the release of their last album titled ‘Connect The Dots’. The energy in all their songs is amazing, it’s so strong you can basically feel the positive vibes and happiness coming off it. In my opinion Mandy Lee, who is the main singer in the band, has a very similar voice to Dolores O’Riordan Burton of The Cranberries. Fun fact: They used to tour with Panic! At The Disco, Paramore, Walk The Moon and Foster The People.

St. Vincent’s sound can be described as soft or experimental rock, which you can clearly hear in ‘Cruel’. St. Vincent is talented in so many ways - for example I’ve never seen somebody this skilled when it comes to playing bass. She’s even designed her own model of a guitar which has been described as ‘being made for women's bodies and providing pleasing aesthetic form in support of the guitar's function‘. Fun fact:  She was the first solo female performer in 20 years to win a Grammy in best alternative album category.

'Feet Don’t Fail Me Now’ is the first song by Foxes that I’ve ever heard and at first I couldn’t get it out of my head. Being a very talented singer Foxes was featured on many songs by other bands and artists, such as Fall Out Boy or ZEDD. She had also played a small role on the show Doctor Who. Fun fact: She decided to go by ‘Foxes’ because her last name is Allen and she wanted to  differentiate herself from Lily Allen. 

This upbeat tune called ‘What’s It Gonna Be’  is one of 13 songs from Shura’s debut album titled ‘Nothing’s Real’. Even though that album was released in 2016 Shura has been making music since she was 16. What’s more, she learned  how to use music production software all by herself during night shifts at her workplace. I adore her so much and I’m hoping she’s gonna release some new music soon. Fun fact: In the music video for this song you can see her twin brother, Nick.

I’ve been following MUNA’s music career for over a year now and I was pleasantly surprised with their debut album which came out in 2017. ‘I Know A Place’ was a single promoting their album and it’s a really catchy song with heartwarming message. The band has chosen to keep all gender-based pronouns out of their lyrics which makes their music more inclusive for everyone. Fun fact: This song was featured in Carmilla Movie.

This british duo called HONNE released ‘Warm On a Cold Night’ back in 2014 as their first single. The mix of soul and synth is quite unexpected but it gives you the feeling of an ultimate chill. It’s that kind of a song that you’d listen to when driving your car late at night on a long open road. Fun fact: Honne  (本音) means ‘real intention’ in Japanese.

‘The Hamptons’ by ‘Transviolet’ is one of my top 10 songs that came out in 2017. The minimalistic electronic sounds throughout the song make it really unique and personally when listening to the song I feel like I’ve been to Hamptons in one of my past lives and know exactly what she’s singing about. It’s also one of those songs that are really easy to listen to. Fun fact: They picked the band name with the help from Charles Bukowski’s poem called 'When The Violets Roar At The Sun'.

I’m sure most of you have heard about a band called fun. but this post isn’t strictly about them - it’s about Jack Antonoff and his music project called Bleachers. Jack is one of the members of fun. but back in 2014 he decided to release some music on his own. One of the reasons why I picked ‘Hate That You Know Me’ is because Carly Rae Jepsen helped Jack produce it and you can hear her in the chorus, which makes it a really unique song. Fun fact: Lead single from Bleachers’ second album was described by Atwood Magazine as "an epic uplifting pop-rock anthem”.

Today I want to introduce you to VÉRITÉ and one of many amazing songs that she’s released called ‘Saint’. Her real name is Kelsey Byrne and she comes from a musical family - her father was a rock musician. Her music style is described as alt pop or indie pop, but it’s really hard to put VÉRITÉ in one specific music genre. I love how her amazing voice fits perfectly to moody electronic sounds in her songs. Fun fact: While not being signed to any label  VÉRITÉ has released her debut album last year called ‘Somwhere in Between’.

This energetic song is called ‘Break My Heart’ by Hey Violet, a pop-rock band that’s had it’s ups and downs. Previously known as Cherri Bomb they used to play hard rock and alt rock, but after changing the name to Hey Violet they decided to go in another direction. My favorite thing about this song is the funky guitar track in the back, it gives so much character to ‘Break My Heart’. Fun fact:  Cherri Bomb used to play as opening acts for rock bands such as Foo Fighters and The Smashing Pumpkins.

The song that I picked for you today is ‘Dazzle’ by Oh Wonder. They are a London-based duo that specializes in slow, groovy and sometimes minimalistic sounds - lots of their songs are perfect for lazy mornings or sleepless nights. They’ve released a new album called ‘Ultralife’ last year with music that’s a little bit more energetic, but it still has it’s charm. Fun fact: While working on their first album they produced and released one song each month, up until the full album release. 

‘Skydiving’ by LIGHTS is one of the reasons why I fell in love with her music - it’s such a good song, I would listen to it for days and not get bored of it. ‘Skydiving’ is a song from LIGHTS’ 4th album titled ‘Skin & Earth’ which was released last year. What’s even more impressive is that she released a companion comic book series for the album at the same time. Fun fact: At the age of 18 she has legally changed her name from Valerie to Lights. Like, that’s her actual name, you guys.

It’s time for one of my favorite bands of all time - CHVRCHES(pronounced churches) with their smash hit ‘The Mother We Share’. This great trio from Glasgow has already released two studio albums full of incredible synth-pop music. They’ve become a quite well-known band, but I still feel like not enough people know about them. Fun fact: the main singer, Lauren Mayberry holds a law degree as well as a master’s degree in journalism.

I bet you have never SEEn such an amazing and unconventional music video(SEE what I did there?). Sorry, in case you haven’t guessed yet this song is called ‘Green Line Kiler’ and was written by a singer/songwriter SEE. Even though she is only twenty she has already released tons of music and her first single called ‘Potions’ has over 5.6 milion views on youtube. Fun fact: She can play piano, drums, guitar, bass and more!

Say hello to Allie X and VÉRITÉ in ‘Casanova’. An amazing collaboration on an amazing song that easily gets in your head and stays there for days. Allie X, also known as Alexandra Hughes is a Canadian singer-songwriter. Her debut album called CollXtion II was released last year, but she's been making music since mid-2000s. Most of her music videos are kinda unsettling or weird, but I highly recommend checking them out. Fun fact: She worked with Troye Sivan on Blue Neighbourhood back in 2015.
