While I’ve put collard greens in my duck and andouille sausage gumbo, my shrimp, lobster and scallop gumbo, and 3 crabs’ and crawfish gumbo, until today, I’ve never made gumbo collard greens. That is a gumbo where the greens are the star of the show. I was preparing dinner for a dear friend’s birthday celebration. She wanted ‘soul food.’ I didn’t want to serve the usual collards, so I went in search of collard green recipes online. Much to my delight I found many different versions of collard greens gumbo. I decided that was what I was going to prepare, my version of collard greens gumbo. When I told her what I was planning on doing, to say she was a tad dubious would be an understatement. So, I took the humble collard greens and took them up 10 notches, by turning them into a delicious and flavorful gumbo. Was it worth it? Was it worth all that time and effort? Making collard greens gumbo has a few moving parts. Creating the stock from smoked meat, which can be done beforehand, or even a couple of weeks before and then frozen. Making the roux, which can also be made ahead of time, refrigerated or frozen. The collard greens can also be prepped ahead of time too. And yes, they can be frozen as well. And finally putting it all together. So, in answer to my question, was it worth it? Oh, my goodness, it is ooh, soooooooo worth it!

This biblical scripture is often used as a source of admonishment that elaborates on the consequences of choices you’ve made.  However, while there is truth to that, my belief is that this phrase transcends ‘just’ telling you to be aware of consequences. It’s so easy to label a situation that didn’t turn out the way in which you thought it would, needed it to, or wanted it to, negatively. And so, you talk about the results and everything leading up to that point, and after it, in a way that doesn’t foster positivity in your life.

You cannot pull yourself into two opposing directions and expect to arrive at a set destination. That's never gonna happen. Focusing on what you want, verses focusing on what you don't want, will get you your desired manifestation.

Moving forward in life can sometimes present challenges. But in order to move forward, without being dragged backwards, you must make peace within yourself. Making peace doesn't mean that you condone, ignore, absolve or pretend that a situation didn't happen.  It simply means that you make an honest and heartfelt decision not to allow the situation to control you.  You get to control your emotional narrative about the situation.

Self-doubt will always undermine and topple anything that you are trying to achieve.  And please, do not confuse self-doubt with the expansion of a concept that you’ve already finalized.  A concept that you want to evolve into something new, but you are unsure as to what that looks like to you.  That is not self-doubt.  That is not knowing.  Understand the nuance here.

Don't confuse not knowing how to attain what you want, with no knowing what you want.
