So last Saturday (on the 6 ธันวาคม 2568) I went to the Yolo! Art Market in Sam Yan Mitrtown in Pathum Wan, Bangkok. And as I was passing through the many rows of both booths and people (คนเยอะ 😅), I stumbled upon this one booth that sell stationary goods with cute arts the artist had made. Managed to get both the vocab books and an apple pencil sticker!
Not sure if I finish these two vocab books properly but I hope I had something to memorise for Thai and other language studies.

Courses for learning Thai language
Thailand Foundation and Chulalongkorn university have many self paced courses (mooc) for learning Thai language. It’s translated into many languages (as you can see). You can check them out here
Just found out this and wanted to share :)
I realized on how ineffective my current skills are whenever I try to learn the Thai writing system. Well, skills and sadly personal issues alongside with real life priorities which had myself back to square one. Not sure what other ways in which I can learn without such drawbacks y’know.

Hello! Sorry for the radio silence but I planned to get back to this blog after resting from my trips to Chengdu many weeks ago. Also I managed to get these cute handmade vocab books from the artist market known as Yoloart Festival in Bangkok (on the 6th of Decemeber 2025 or 6 ธันวาคม 2586 )
I'm usually online on Twitter but... I fear for what people would think when realising that I am of Teochew descent aka of the Mainlands, or at least half of it. I'm still trying to explore my ancestries on both my mother and father side of the family. In which both of my grandfathers were Teochew. As for my grandmothers side, one of them was of Mukdahan and the other somewhere North East in Thailand. But I wasn't sure which one which.
I wish to speak fluent Teochew, to find ways to have the spoken words be written, communicated to others, recorded and passed down so future generations can look into with interests. It's too far of a stretch, but what can you do when wishing for something big and seemly impossible.
Heading to Chengdu/成都 today so will need to focus primarily on the communication aspects since there may be unexpected encounters of people asking me in Mandarin

language-learning advice from a pro
(I started writing this post just now as a message to a friend who asked for language-learning advice. But I’m a GIANT NERD when it comes to language learning, so it got wayyy too long to be a message. So I’m posting it here in the hopes that it might help others as well. I have not edited this or even read through it all yet – it just poured straight out of my fingers – so please let me know if you spot any typos!)
Okay, first of all, there are two parts to language learning: active learning and passive exposure. You can choose to do only one or the other, but you’ll have the most success if you do both.
in an age where machine translation is getting better and better I BEG you to keep learning languages and keep your brain sharp and keep an open mind. learning a language is so much more than memorizing a bunch of words, it opens up ways of seeing the world you hadn't considered before that are inherent to the way things are phrased in another language. it gives you a new lens through which you'll view life. it will make your life fuller, more well-rounded, more fulfilling. please learn languages other than your own.
there is no amount of language learning that is useless. I think it obviously scales up in wonderfulness as you learn more, but even just being at the point where you can recognize what language is being spoken or written is still a more useful thing than not knowing that. it is lovely to say hi to people in their language! any attempt to learn is important. you don't get fluent overnight. and you don't have to get fluent overnight. more knowledge is better than none. it isn't just all or nothing.
Hello everyone! I'm Wonder (or Drifter) and welcome to my study corner! Language studies to be specific. I've been thinking for a while on how I want to improve on my language skills, so I can talk to people and understand what's going on. Both online and real life. I did try some ways to learn but felt like they are not enough or that I'm going no where. So I decided to create this blog to keep progress along the way!
Three languages I want to put my focus on:
One in which I'm already familiar with, but will need to improve on the reading and writing parts aka Thai; mainly understands the verbal side of the language ever since childhood, making it my first language before having English to be my main one (due to societal pressures and upbringings).
The other is Mandarin. I realised with the upcoming trips I'm going to require to understand mostly Mandarin when talking to people. So mainly have to work on the verbal side first before going straight with the writing. I do have accounts like Red Note and WeChat for learning purposes (well ok that and for geek stuffs like Transformers haha)
The third is Chinese as well, but part of the reasons why I want to learn this was of ancestral reasons. Teochew. I am of Thai Teochew descent and it ...saddens that theres not much talks about the Teochew language. Whether it would be saying A'gong, A'ma, Jeik (a way to say let's eat to everyone before eating), and just having different ways of talking compared to Mandarin. Thankfully there are channels and an app to learn about Teochew on google store (not sure if Apple store has it or if it's just android exclusive). Deep down I do want to use as a mean to keep this language going no matter how hard it may be.
So yeah three main focuses here on this blog. However I do want to branch out to other languages as well like Indonesian, Tagalog, Korean/Hangul, Japanese, Greek, Espanol, Vietnamese, Sign Languages and just any languages I can study so I can connect with fellow online friends!
