death's plan???
idk if im going to state the obvious but let me think out loud real quick. ive been thinking about death's plan - and from what we have seen so far it was based on making yoru and denji stronger (more feared) than her.
now, my question is if that is even possible? for example, if war becomes more feared so will the death in extant. but, what if i was thinking about it from the wrong angle?
let's go back to denji's fight with eternity devil - his goal was to make the eternity fear torture and pain more than the death itself - to see death as its only way out.
what if that's what death devil is aiming at?
what if her idea of "terror" is making humans live in constant fear so the death seems like an escape, more than something to be feared? which is not uncommon theme in art - there being worse fates than death itself. i could even say there are things in life i fear more than death.
so, this would eventually mean people would fear life (being as it is) more than death, and there is popular theory about denji actually being life devil... which, in this scenario, would make him stronger than death.
edit: but i think there's a big chance of this backfiring exactly because humans are way too complex
the protectiveness... jealousy maybe.

is it just me or is asa's side of yoru's assault towards her and denji not being fully explored? like we see the effect it has on denji, but we don't see any of asa's reactions or inner thoughts as yoru continues to use her body to get intimate with denji (except for the pochiyoru arc where she gets angry at yoru and then uneasily goes to the sushi place)
like even the last time we see asa it's after yoru forced herself on denji again and then straight up promised to have sex with him, and what she does first is beg denji to kill her- because yoru's planning something so evil towards humanity that she can't even say it out loud, and that she's insanely guilty for what yoru did and she shouldn't have trusted her at all (which you can maybe argue the last part is about yoru using her body for sex ig?)
it's like- in the current arcs, yoru's moments of intimacy is being used to only further denji's ordeal, and asa's side of it (as somebody who expressed repulsion towards sex) is getting pushed to the side
i absolutely agree with this criticism, and what i additionally find interesting is how we know that yoru claims her emotions towards denji are only projection of asa's own - which would include sexual ones. here we could argue that this is incorrect and yoru only views it as such bc she's unable to understand emotions.
while i believe the topic of asa's/yoru's shared feelings is more layered and complicated than simple projections or not, if we primarily believe what yoru is claiming is correct that is very interesting narrative choice. because it would mean asa while repulsed by sex is craving it and yoru is not only violating asa's body by forcing her to do things she doesn't want - but also the ones asa does want but isn't ready for.
this doesn't diminish yoru's abuse in any capacity, only gives it different perspective and it's very common for victim of sexual abuse to feel guilty for "enjoying" (having bodily reaction) to their abuse, yet this is something that is often not discussed/explored in fiction. while i do not wish to center this post about denji at all, it's needless to say how this would parallel denji's experience with abuse as well.
all together, i absolutely agree that for now im slightly disappointed in the lack of attention when it comes to asa's experience with sexual abuse and i hope it will be explored properly in the future
edit: but id like to add how fujimoto often portrays his character having "delayed" reactions to abuse, needing time to understand/feel how they were affected by what happened to them - which is not only something that happens in real life, but also makes sense given chaotic events that are happening to characters constantly
in this panel we could notice how death did not respond to her "name" right away, it being even funnier now. still, i believe the reason why death did not respond to yoru is because she acknowledges famine's wish to be addressed by her nickname.
which makes me wonder is it mere acknowledgement to pass better or perhaps genuine respect for her sister? it seems unnecessary for death to ignore yoru so she would play her rule better, bc honestly yoru doesn't seem that perceptive. but to me this maybe confirms yoru was not aware of fami's real identity, bc if she knew she most likely wouldn't care to addresses her "correctly".
here we see that death does call her sister by her preferred nickname and also apologizes to her, which perhaps could indicate genuine respect or even care for her. this concept could be interesting given how until now sisters didn't really have any emotional connection to one another. also, i find it interesting how real fami's powers are in a way something you'd expect from death devil and how in contrast the death devil eats a lot to "fill a void" (possibly, again this could've been a part of the act).
