In a world of Reagans, choosing to be a Gaddafi
Or: How I found peace through truth and socialist resistance
Blog posing is not my strong suit, but here I am with a Gaddafi blog cataloguing an obsession, so it's only proper to discuss my experiences with Gaddafism and how I ended up here. I can start with a simple word:
Reagan.
A name I was deeply familiar with, despite having been born under his VP’s presidency.
Reagan.
A name that I was taught meant strength, wisdom, and most importantly, unrestrained American power. A venerated folk hero in my sleepy Southern town, his portrait still hangs in my uncle’s office, his biographies sit on my mother’s shelves. I watched his funeral with my parents, my mother weeping as Nancy took the flag from her husband’s casket. I was encouraged to read ‘Dutch’, and then listened as my parents told me that it wasn’t the best portrait of the man who made America what it is today. Too critical, after all, Reagan was the best thing that ever happened to our country in recent memory.
And for most of my young life, I believed them.
As children we are not immune to propaganda, we are the product of the political climate in which we are raised. Pulling away from that ideology in search of the truth can come at a steep price, and for many it comes at the cost of losing people we once loved and trusted. People whose words shaped our ideologies, our worldview, our places in the community. Sometimes pulling away feels like mourning a death.
The problem is that I ask questions. A lot of them in fact. In 2011 I had more questions than my cup usually holds. Things didn’t make sense the way I wanted them to. It just didn’t add up to the narrative I was given. I carried these doubts for five years, alongside a quiet admiration for a particular man. An admiration that I knew would upset my family (and partner’s) staunch Reaganite sensibilities, so I pushed it aside and focused on life, I focused on college…
In 2017 I decided to finally start finding answers.
Sometimes in life we’re met with a decision. Choose truth or choose peace. Peace means accepting the status quo, bending the knee to the voices that shout down at you, that call you crazy, that tell you that you’re delusional for not believing what Fox News barks out every evening over your mother’s pork chop supper. But what they don't tell you is that Truth brings freedom, freedom in knowing that despite the hardships, you choose to stand up for what is right, what is just. That freedom brings a deep, spiritual peace in a way empty platitudes never could.
In Gaddafi I found that freedom.
To my family choosing Gaddafi meant choosing the ‘terrorists’ and ‘foreigners’, over my country, over my people. It meant opposing everything that they had worked so hard to teach me, running from their cult of personality into the arms of a man who they deemed to be a dangerous ‘mad dog’. By maintaining the belief that Reagan was not a 'bad' person, but that he was acting on the behalf of something that was inherently evil, an imperialist, Zionist force which sought to destroy all that opposed it, made me a political pariah to those closest to me.
Years later there is a quiet acceptance now, shrouded in a veil of suspicion amongst those who know. The sort of side eyed dismissals that you would expect from a family member discussing an outsider, not relations between a parent and child. My relationship with my partner ended altogether, because opening up to others about my love for Muammar ended up showing me just how toxic my romantic situation was at the time. My ex still curses his name like it’s poison.
This is the essence of resistance. Never bending the knee, never choosing comfort over the truth. For me it’s a quiet resistance, in my home country, and now my newly adopted one, the name Gaddafi still invokes strong negative emotions. It’s something that I’m not ashamed of, but am very careful about disclosing.
I serve my truth by living my life, by loving, and by keeping his memory alive. And I am not alone. Knowing this simple fact is one of the most beautiful aspects of being a Gaddafist: I am never alone. I’m bound to my brothers and sisters across continents, languages and religions through our shared loyalty to him. We never walk alone, even if we can’t outwardly show it just yet. One day when the period of the masses comes to fruition, history will look back on him favorably, and I’m privileged to have upheld his truth through the darkest of days for Libya, for Europe, for America, and for the rest of our world.
In the meantime, whenever I sit in my uncle’s office, Reagan smiles down at me while I carry a photo of Muammar on a necklace beneath my blouse. It’s a silent declaration:
You are here, I am with you. We will be victorious in the end.
The truth will triumph over the enemy of the people.
Gaddafi Book Haul
So, in my quest to gain as much knowledge as humanly possible I have secured the following titles:
Excluding 'Escape to Hell', I'm going into these completely blind. 😅 There's only one book about him that I absolutely will not tolerate in my home (I'm sure you can guess, I shall not utter the title/author's name), so I pick up whatever I can find online and in thrift stores. Hopefully they'll be (somewhat) fair and balanced. If anyone has suggestions to help grow my collection I'm all ears. The book to the far left has pictures! I'll post them below:
I'd die for this smile.

Photos that have me feeling some kinda way...
No context. Brain off. Dreaming of him.
He knew what he was doing in that uniform.
Young and beautiful.
Saif is cute sure, but damn Daddy. Hard not to let the thoughts become haram.
I'm noticing. o.o
I love these aesthetic edits.
Never forget what they took from you. 💚
Some photos of Gaddafi during his early military career:
This photo is widely circulated, it's a shame we don't have an HD variant.
This one I've only seen a few times. I'm not sure of the context, perhaps a photo for an ID/passport?
This one I'm including, but I suspect it's AI. 🤔 I haven't ever seen it anywhere else, and it's just a little bit too perfect as compared to other early, grainy photos.
ohh, im glad to see another person who is interested\loves gaddfi! it's soo cool. (but i've been here for a short time, i think from 2022 ahah) :3
It's a pleasure to meet you! I've been loving Gaddafi since 2011 (secretly), but only active in the community since 2018, albeit not on Tumblr. :) It's always great to meet others who admire him.

Gaddafi...Fanfiction?
There aren't that many Gaddafi fanfics floating around out there, oddly enough. We're all very familiar with the three or four heavily circulated stories, and Muammar's AO3 tag only has *checks notes* 27 entries... A surprisingly small number as compared to other world leaders.
Which is why I was shocked when I found this...
Professionally published Gaddafi literotica. 🍆✨
It was a very interesting read. On one hand he was played up as this dominant, ruthless dictator, on the other, well, it's a Gaddafi sex book and I'm not spoiled for choice, ha. Apparently it was meant to be a three part series, but I think only one volume ever saw the light of day. Which is incredibly annoying because I was heavily invested in the story, as I'm sure you can imagine.
The book focuses on a young Libyan woman of mixed Italian descent who returns to her ancestral homeland with a close male friend, only to be kidnapped and turned into Gaddafi's concubine. Something she both enjoys and loathes. Pretty straightforward enemies to lovers story, but entertaining no less.
Here's a (somewhat) SFW snippet:
What a world we live in. 😭

Gaddafi's Last Speech
While it's difficult for us English speakers to determine what his last 'official' speech was, this transcript taken down on April, 17, 2011 is a good candidate:
· · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · ·
In the name of Allah, the beneficent, the merciful…
For 40 years, or was it longer, I can’t remember, I did all I could to give people houses, hospitals, schools, and when they were hungry, I gave them food. I even made Benghazi into farmland from the desert.
I stood up to attacks from that cowboy Ronald Reagan, when he killed my adopted orphaned daughter, he was trying to kill me, instead he killed that poor innocent child. Then I helped my brothers and sisters from Africa with money for the African Union.
I did all I could to help people understand the concept of real democracy, where people’s committees ran our country. But that was never enough, as some told me, even people who had 10 room homes, new suits and furniture, were never satisfied, as selfish as they were they wanted more.
They told Americans and other visitors, that they needed “democracy” and “freedom,” never realizing it was a cut throat system where “the biggest dog eats the rest”, but they were enchanted with those words, never realizing that in America, there was no free medicine, no free hospitals, no free housing, no free education and no free food, except when people had to beg or go to long lines to get soup.
No matter what I did, it was never enough for some, but for others, they knew I was the son of Gamal Abdel Nasser, the only true Arab and Muslim leader we’ve had since Salah-al-Deen, when he claimed the Suez Canal for his people, as I claimed Libya, for my people, it was his footsteps I tried to follow, to keep my people free from colonial domination – from thieves who would steal from us.
Now, I am under attack by the biggest force in military history. Obama wants to kill me, to take away the freedom of our country, to take away our free housing, our free medicine, our free education, our free food, and replace it with American style thievery called “capitalism”, but all of us in the Third World know what that means, it means corporations run the countries, run the world, and the people suffer.
So, there is no alternative for me, I must make my stand, and if Allah wishes, I shall die by following His path, the path that has made our country rich with farmland, with food and health, and even allowed us to help our African and Arab brothers and sisters.
I do not wish to die, but if it comes to that, to save this land, my people, all the thousands who are all my children, then so be it.
Let this testament be my voice to the world, that I stood up to crusader attacks of NATO, stood up to cruelty, stood up to betrayal, stood up to the West and its colonialist ambitions, and that I stood with my African brothers, my true Arab and Muslim brothers, as a beacon of light.
When others were building castles, I lived in a modest house, and in a tent. I never forgot my youth in Sirte, I did not spend our national treasury foolishly, and like Salah-al-Deen, our great Muslim leader, who rescued Jerusalem for Islam, I took little for myself…
In the West, some have called me “mad”, “crazy”, but they know the truth yet continue to lie, they know that our land is independent and free, not in the colonial grip, that my vision, my path, is, and has been clear and for my people and that I will fight to my last breath to keep us free, may Allah almighty help us to remain faithful and free.
- Muammar Gaddafi

Gaddafi in the scouts...
It's hard to imagine him ever being that young! He was a cutie. These are the earliest photos of him that I've been able to find and verify, there are a few others floating around claiming to be from his days as a scout, but unfortunately the quality isn't conducive to giving a quality ID.

Interesting stuff. As someone who's loved him well over a decade, I'm so happy to see other people discovering him as well. Thanks GQ!
Hello, welcome to my silly little blog dedicated to Muammar. I'm glad you're here.
My goal is to post a photo a day until I run out or life gets in the way. Feel free to ask questions and to love him alongside me. 💚
