[3:25 PM] You wiped your sweaty palms on your graduation dress, telling yourself to breathe. You gathered up your nerve. You could do it. 

You and Best friend!Renjun had been childhood friends for longer than you could remember. You had attended the same kindergarten, elementary school, middle school, and now you were both about to graduate high school together. 

You had harbored a crush on your best friend since he had taken you to your first 7th-grade dance. You knew he had pitied you and only caved into your request when you became teary-eyed that no one had asked you to be their date. 

You were sure Best friend!Renjun only saw you in a platonic sense, which hurt. As much as you cherished his friendship, your unrequited feelings hurt deep down.

As senior year loomed, you were forced to face the reality that you and Best friend!Renjun were going to separate colleges and that you would no longer see each other every day. 

You decided just to confess, to get everything you felt off your chest. If he rejected you, it would be okay. You would move on and start college anew, leaving your crush behind. 

“Renjun,” You tugged on his sleeve.

Best friend!Renjun spun around, his cheeks flushed. He hadn’t intended on running into you until later. He was still unprepared, a nauseous feeling bubbling in his stomach. 

Best friend!Renjun had had a crush on his best friend since 5th grade. He had attempted to hint his feelings over the years, all of which seemed to fly over your head. 

This was his final chance before the two of you parted to separate colleges across the state. 

“I like you,” He hadn’t meant to blurt out so bluntly. 

Your eyes widened. 

“I mean,” Best friend!Renjun scratched the back of his head, “I’ve always liked you as a friend." 

"Oh,” Your voice deflated, “Only as a friend." 

‘No!” Best friend!Renjun quickly correct, “I’ve liked you as a friend, but I also like you more than a friend. I was wondering if you wanted to be more than friends, but if you don’t want to, we can stay friends." 

You bit back your smile. 

He groaned, "Help me here,” His shoulders slumped, “I’m terrible at this." 

Your laugh lifted his spirit. 

"I want to be more than friends."
