He looks at you like your eyes hold the galaxy and more.

He looks at you like you're his world.

--And one could believe it, with how he acts. Hues of baby red always dust his cheeks and ears, yet he can't help the smile that stretches over his lips. He can't help the way you seem to swallow his being whole, keeping him enraptured at all times.

He looks at you as if you're some miracle. A divine blessing from some higher up power, because you just can't be real. You're like a masterpiece, the most beautiful thing in the world.

He looks at you like he's going to love you forever.

I have some ideas down lol, but first I’d need the motivation and stuff…

“Because I don’t want you to! You have enough to deal with!”

“So? You matter most! Not some stupid job, not money, not who lives or who dies! You!”

“But you need to not have to deal with the things I can! You need rest and you need these breaks—”

“I need you!”

…

How could you have not? He was perfect. The way his eyes flicked from one object to the next, the way his lips curled into a smile. That smile that you adored. It made your heart squeeze and your chest erupt in butterflies.

You thought that you fell first.

But now, as friendship blurs, you wonder if that’s true.

Because now you can see just how deep his eyes are. Slow-dancing to the song playing, others creating a ruckus around you two—

Yet his gaze never leaves you. His lips are raised in that boyish smile you love, but it’s softer. His hands are on your waist, but they do not demand or search. They just rest there, holding you gently.

You thought you fell first, you did.

But as your lips meet in the kiss, soft and everything you’ve dreamed of…

You realize. While you had started standing, ready to be swept off your feet, he had always been on the ground.

“I’d kill for you” this

“I’ll live for you.”

“I’ll stay alive for you.”

“Father is starting to consider offers.”

It’s just a regular day, when you blurt the words. The sun is high, beating down on the ground and coating the world in warmth. The two of you are sitting on the old cobblestone ‘fence’, legs dangling.

He blinks. Something in his heart falls, but he brushes it off as he turns his face to look at you, tilting his head. You’re young, still only in teens. Both of you are. You still have yet to truly grow into the woman he knows you’ll be, but that doesn’t mean you aren’t beautiful already. (Of course, to him, you’ve always been beautiful.)

“What do you mean?” He asks, eyes meeting yours. They sparkle in the sun, though look duller than normal.

You shrug, an attempt to look casual, as you continue to kick your legs back and forth. Your eyes avoid his. “He said that I’m nearing the age where I’ve become old enough to take care of myself. So, I guess, soon he’ll find me a suitor?”

His heart drops.

That’s not right. You don’t…you don’t need a suitor. You don’t need anyone else. You have him. He has you. That’s how it is. That’s how it always has been. Why would it change?

He wants to protest, to go march to your house and demand an explanation.

“…You seem excited.” Are the words that fall from his lips.

You give a chuckle, lips curling upwards a bit more. “Now how could you tell?”

The air feels thick. His mouth feels clogged, his throat being drowned in syrup. Both of you can feel the tension. “You don’t want that, right?” The words slip from him without his permission, but he doesn’t take them back.

“Of course I don’t.” You respond, glancing away. “But what choice do I have?”

“Live with me.” He blurts. It’s impulsive, but the idea latches onto him and it starts to grow. He sees your incredulous look, but pays no mind. It makes sense. His mind starts to race, excited as the words tumble. “Yeah. You know they’ll listen to me. They always do.”

For a moment, there is no reply. He focuses back on you, trying to see your reaction.

“…you’re crazy.”

He’s not sure why he wants to laugh and cry at the same time. It’s so you, which he loves. Because you sound so hopeful yet absolutely astonished.

“Well?” He hopes his voice isn’t as eager as he feels.

“…it’s your dad and mine that you’ll have to convince.” You say after a second, grinning.

Sometimes, Odysseus wonders just what life would be like without you. The thoughts come in slow waves, often when you are asleep on your desk or looking off the bow of the ship.

It’s moments like then, now, that those thoughts creep into him. The wind is blowing your hair, your eyes sparkling from the sun. You smile, even though you’re both so far, far from home.

It’s moments when you let your guard down, head resting in his lap, that he ponders over the world if you weren’t there. His hand runs through your hair, combing the slightly tangled strands. Usually, it is the other way around, so he appreciates this moment even more.

It’s moments when you’re guiding him through the forest, laughing as you and Polites race through the trees. You act as if the burdens of war do not weigh heavy on your mind. He sees it, though, and he just feels his heart swell even more.

He always wonders how lost he would be without his dear best friend. Closer to him than maybe even Penelope; he’d known you since before he was King. You followed him to war, and now here you are with him, giving a reassuring smile.

Still, he never thought he would ever truly…experience the world without you.

Not when you were his dearest friend, his closest companion. You stuck to him through it all and promised to never leave.

So far from home…yet the two of you had been so close.

Now it is only him who will make it home to Penelope. Your eyes do not sparkle, blood pooling under you.

Odysseus had often wondered what the world would be like without you.

Now he didn’t need to. It was his world now.
