Ok so tertiary hospital, that's serious stuff.
For example there's not a single tertiary hospital in Jeju. Even in Seoul there's only a handful. It's the biggest of the big hospitals.
How it works is, you first go to your local hospital (lv1, lv2) and then if the doctor says it's too serious to deal with here, you get upgraded to tertiary (lv3). You can't directly go to tertiary, you can only go if the local hospital doctor says you should.
Here's hoping the surgery goes well and BDS returns to full health without any issues 🙏

In defense of the Golden Flower Resort Manager....
spoilers for Ch406...
I'm on the Managers side tbh.
Yes he's disrespectful and arrogant but I do believe Soleum owes him that.
Soleum randomly dumps ALL responsibility of a currently half exploded resort to the Manager and then randomly dips. The Manager now has to do everything all by himself. Rebuild the resort and keep business going. Soleum ONLY pulls up to either take resort money or to randomly send guests there for free. Meanwhile the Manager just has to deal with everything.
And the Manager clearly has good ideas for the resort! But he can't enact them because he's just the Manager.
And when Soleum finally pulls up and approves the idea to take over the Subway IT GOES TO SHIT!! Things went horribly for the resort! And then Soleum leaves presumably forever! Leaving the Manager to handle this all on his own while having no way to contact or communicate with Soleum at all. Soleum leaves him completly isolated.
And the contract ends. And good thing the Manager actually LIKES being here. Because if he didn't what is he supposed to do? The proper thing would be hand over the Resort to the Mascot. Or maybe discuss a new contract. But again HE HAS NO WAY TO CONTACT SOLEUM!!! The Mascot is literally in another world he has no way of getting to.
So of course he stays. And hell hes doing a great job at being Manager! He hasnt exactly done a hostile takeover from the looks of it. He seems to have kept all of Soleums rules and facilities. Hes literally just continuing to manage them after his contract ended. Which really is a favor to Soleum.
And I think people forget that THIS IS THE BEST CASE SCENARIO!! The problem with the contract was that it expired. That eventually Soleum would have to return to being the Mascot and be eternally trapped there or doom one of his employees to that fate instead. Soleums plan was to return home before that happened.
But this is the best case scenario! That the Manager wants to continue being in charge of the Resort even AFTER his contract ended! Which is exactly what happened!
I think Soleum got too comfy with having only the advantages of being the Golden Mascot. Being able to pull currency from there, able to use the abilities of Golden Flower to his advantage, to have that domain and power as an option, to give people free passes.
And now he's upset that the Manager took away all those advantages from him.
But he's forgetting the Manager also took all the DISADVANTAGES of being the Mascot. The eternal imprisonment. The contamination. The loss of humanity.
Is the Manager being rude? Yes. Arrogant? Yes. Would the right thing to do be handing over the resort to Soleum? Yes.
But I think he's valid. After all THIS Soleum isn't the Mascot. The Resort does not recognize him as such. He's just a normal human. And right now he's a cleaner for the Resort. Nothing more.
The Mascot never gave him any orders to treat any other version of himself as the Mascot as well. So I think the Managers completly valid in treating Soleum exactly as what he is. A cleaner working for the Resort. If anything I think he's being more polite and respectful then he should be. Because he WAS the Mascot. Right now in this body in this form, Soleum is not the Mascot
So yeah. I'm on the Managers side here.
Even if in a chapter or two I have to eat my words because the Manager does smth, for now. Here's where I stand.

↳ plus rn, KSE doesn't have any identifier on him, so it was natural that the keeper didn't recognize him as the "owner undercover". ghost story entities identify humans differently unlike humans, so no identifier → this is not their employee. even if this "soul" is KSE, only Braun so far could recognize him regardless of his lack of identifiers (i'd also include Blue Dragon but i can't be sure since they haven't seen KSE as Z999 yet but i do hope they'd recognize him).

Kim Soleum. The POV character for the majority of the novel and yet one pretty difficult to understand. A character who does not aknowledge or analyze himself and an unreliable narration.
However I will attempt it ☝️!
Specifically for Ch404. And try to figure out his feelings on his own identity.
Here are my general thoughts first.
Soleum was very unstable this chapter. Despite his narration telling us he was confident in his identity, he was lying. He was falling apart and only managed to pull himself together because of Jin Nasol. And when Jin Nasol was no longer there to anchor him, he panicked. He froze.
First you can immiedatly identity the change in Soleums narration. Usually he adds a lot of personality and thought process to his narration but not here. Hes just telling us exactly whats happening with a couple of adjectives thrown in. Such as "desperate"
He reacts slowly. He just stares at his hand while slowly piecing together the truth. That once again, he is not human.
Finally he reacts. Hes freaking out. Hes repeating words. Its crashing in on him.
Kim Soleum is not a character who likes describing or aknowledging himself. However he is a character who enjoys relating to another character. Feeling similar to them. He gets comfort off of someone like him. So occasionally he will tell us his own emotions by describing another characters emotions. Sometimes obviously. Sometimes subtly.
Here its obvious
However Nasol reacts very differently from him. Kim Soleum is a character who never gives up. No matter the odds. No matter the chances. Its very rare for him to fully give up.
Jin Nasol is someone realistic. Someone who when the situation looks dire will simply give up. And thats what she does here. Begins talking without a care in the world. Almost making jokes. She accepts the truth and gives up.
And that scares Kim Soleum. He is completly silient while she talks but you can tell in the small bits of narration, what he's feeling.
Spoke without frowning. A terrifyingly calm voice.
Kim Soleum has two ways of treating characters. Either as someone relatable and just like him. Or as someone whose nothing like him at all.
Soleum will distance himself from people who are not like him. Who will view them as something completly different and will often make judgemental or mocking comments in his head regarding them. He treated Jin Nasol like this earlier in Part 3.
And towards people he believes are like him he will get very attached to them. He will also behave in a more friendly and open manner towards them.
And the more he trusts a person, the more he'll start to believe they're like him, and the more he'll get attached and start to trust them. (To the point he'll get surprised and a little judgemental when they suddenly behave unlike him)
Right now Jin Nasol is someone who he trusts. Who he's viewing to be like himself. So right now when she's behaving in a way unlike him (not seeming upset and just speaking calmly)
Hes not judging her or distancing himself from her opinion. He is accepting her comments fully. And he's scared of them.
He then begins speaking very logically. He comes up with an arguement countering Nasol's and even has evidence for it. Its very convincing.
Were it not for him literally agreeing with Nasols arguement a second later.
So what was that? That whole arguement with proof and logic backing it up.
Well to put it simply. I think it was Soleum talking out of his ass.
Its a skill he possesses and has used many many times. Most commonly seen in the Daydream Era when he needed to come up with an explanation for how he got out of a Darkness. And he always provided logical evidence and reasoning to support his actions (despite the fact that all he did was have info before he went into the Darkness)
Except back then, the audience knew he was bluffing. Here he didn't. And thats because he can't.
He needed to reject Nasol's point and convince her that they were in fact, the real Jin Nasol and Kim Soleum because he could not waver in his confidence. He pulled a logical arguement out of nowhere not because he believed it, but because he needed Nasol to believe it. Because rn he is entirely depending on Nasol.
Okay okay let me explain. With two points.
Kim Soleum does not have a good history regarding his identity.
And Kim Soleum does not like being alone.
It is something he told us at the very start of the series. In Abyss Transpo. He told us that in the very first chapters. That he could not go alone. Because he's absolutely terrified of horror. And this fact has held true for the entirity of the story.
And when Soleums identity has collapsed around him. When he learns a horrible horrible truth that shatters him. He was alone.
In ch208 when Soleum learns that he was summoned here, that he is not human, he is utterly alone. He panics and falls apart mentally and physically.
The second time his identity fell apart he was not alone. Technically. Physically he was not alone. When he learned that he was a Good Friend and the real human him had been trapped as the host of Sekwang city Disaster, he has Braun with him. But ultimately Braun does not ground him. Braun falls apart. Even Ho Yuwon who appears later does not ground him immiedatly. Ho Yuwon simply provides a solution to the problem.
Here he is not alone. Like I said earlier he currently views Nasol as someone he trusts and cares for. Someone he sees like himself. Someone who he's very currently emotionally connected to. He doesnt panic, he doesnt act. He simply listens to what she says.
So when the person who he's currently depending on and emotionallt connected to starts talking about how they're not real, and begins to give up... well he can't allow that. He can't let himself fall apart. And if she falls apart so will he.
So he starts bluffing. He makes up this great arguement to convince her so she can stay and not fall apart. So he can not fall apart. So they can stay confident in their own identities.
And you can tell hes bluffing because he literally admits his head clears AFTER his arguement. And when his head is clear he immiedatly goes "yeah but we both are dead tho" because thats the real truth. He just needed the previous arguement to ground them.
And you can see it in this exact same breath of a line how he only calms down after he sees Nasol calm down.
And you can tell his head cleared because his normal narration returns. He begins to have thoughts and feelings and well- his head clears.
After that he starts speaking honestly. With the actual truth of the matter.
And he genuinely continues to speak honestly. He doesnt suddenly close up or hesitate. He is truly and fully honest with someone one else.
Then Soleum moves to an internal narration.
Ive seen a lot of people say this internal narration is smth they're very proud of Soleum for. He's reassured of his own identity confidentially states he's himself.
Except I think he's lying.
Well more specifically he's just saying stuff to try and make himself feel better. Gaslighting himself into being confident. You can see him admit it in one of the very first lines.
He tells us he didnt fall into a panic. That his mind was calm and steady. He's just trying to convince himself he is. And you can see that in the immiedate next line
Where he backtracks. Because even he can't make himself believe he was calm and steady and didn't panic. So he makes it more believable.
And I believe for the rest of the internal dialogue for this section, he exhibits the same behavior. He's not nessecarily lying, but its not the truth either. He just tells himself so he can feel better and more confident in himself.
First he makes a comment that "actually this isn't so bad! I've been through worse!"
Which seems like an attempt to make himself feel better about the current situation.
And then he repeats a comment about his confidence in his identity FOUR TIMES. Every time in a different way. That seems more to me like someone whose trying to convince himself then someone he rlly believes it. I mean you can even see it in the second attempt.
How it trails off before finishing with a very basic "i am me". Because thats true! He is him! But hes clearly not aknowledging the many other truths about himself. He can't. He won't.
Anyways he calms down. And then he doesn't do anything. He simply stands there and talks while they are actively leaking out and running out of time. And he speaks and behaves in a very strange manner.
I hope? We? Why in the world is he just standing around? Why simply nudge Nasol towards the correct course of action? Why isn't Soleum taking charge and leading? Why is he hoping they don't give up instead of just not giving up at all? Why is he lumping him and Nasols opinions together like they're the same?
Well this can be explained by first. Realizing that despite his attempts to comfort himself and despite his comments of pulling himself together and having a clear head, that it wasn't the truth. He still is very much freaked out. And currently he is entirely depending on Nasol.
This isn't the first time he's done this. But its not a common thing he does. In fact the situations where he freezes up in panic seem to come up in more and more extreme places.
The first time he did this was with Go Youngeun in Abyss Transpo. Where he saw the sea of blood and froze despite confidentially saying this was their stop moments before. He got through that because he relied and focused on Go Youngeun. He even told us this.
The second time he did it was in Hangman. When the Teachers appeared and he suddenly froze up. Until Braun calmly began to lead him forward.
Here is completly relying on Jin Nasol. Not only that, but he is right now emotionally tied with her. Which what I mean by that is that if shes calm hes calm. If she gives up he gives up. If she moves he moves. Its why he lumps them together and says "I hope we don't give up." Its why he presents the next course of action to her but doesn't do anything himself.
He needs her to pull him forward. And she does.
And only then does he move and act.
(Its interesting cause hes really the one pulling Nasol out of giving up. And because he pulls her out, she pulls him out. Its rlly all thanks to his own efforts yet hes entirely depending on her. Anyways)
and you can clearly see how honest and open he's being right now. He openly admitted out loud to Nasol that he's glad he's they're in this together. Awwww. Very heartwarming 🥹
Mind you he never honestly admits he's glad someone is there. Sometimes he does to manipulate them but again that isnt honest. Sometimes he admits it in his head but again. That isnt out loud. I dunno for sure but im pretty sure this is the first time he honestly told someone hes glad theyre here out loud.
And then he makes herself feel better with her lack of reaction by saying at least she didnt say some rude comment. And that her being quiet wasnt a bad sign. Like he wants her to be happy hes here too. Very cute.
Anyways only now does Soleums narration fully return to normal. He is now actively thinking of a plan and next course of action and charging ahead with the goal of survival. Whoo hoo!
In fact he seems to be more open the his usual narration. He usually makes an effort to never acknowledge himself but here he does! He even seems more annoyed by it! Being with someone and talking about it out loud seems to have helped a lot
He behaves normally for the rest of the chapter. Nothing much to note. Until well er- until Jin Nasol starts melting 😬
Remember what I said about him being entirely dependent on Nasol rn? Yeahhh...
Notice how his narration therefore focus immiedatly shifts to be entirely about her. Gone are any thoughts regarding the plan, regarding what she's literally sacrificing herself for. He is entirely focused on her. How shes falling apart. Melting.
He even does a hint of that self gaslighting behavior here. By saying No. Just No to her melting. Ofc that doesn't do much.
And after this he exhibits this behavior of completely freezing and going blank before mentally slapping himself in the face. He needs to save Jin Nasol. And then he freezes again. And then he mentally slaps himself in the face. In the end he goes a lot slower then he usually would because of whats happening to Jin Nasol.
After that he enters a fairly numb narration. Not completly devoid of emotion but mostly. Just him moving and doing what he needs to do.
Overall a very interesting chapter for Kim Soleum!
