I am alone, as I’ve always been, as I’ve started every book and song and chapter I’ve ever written, and I am facing the sea, as I always end up doing. I was born for the ocean, for the road, and I longed to build my reputation as a fearless nomad, forever roaming the country with a suitcase and my guitar. Light as the wind itself, a romantic mystery passing through people’s lives, leaving them with moments of magic, wondering where I might be now.
But the shift goes slow and if I had the choice I’d move into that little red house on the corner of the street, where I used to go and drink at night, and I’d build a home inside, by the fireplace. Big, red candles, a double bed with the same kind of pillows you get at really nice hotels, and I would always have people over. Friends and strangers, invited for wine, dinner, breakfast, and I’d make it a place to come for everyone. Where they could tell their stories, share their worries or joys, and I’d listen and understand; pour another coffee, wine, whisky, and end the night with another song, all together, all as one. “Let’s put music to our troubles…” // From Everything Changed When I Forgave Myself by Charlotte Eriksson
