I’m at the executive management level for my very small company and I have 4 people who report directly to me. I am a nice boss. I’m friendly with my employees, I treat them like professional adults, I actively try to create a positive work environment, and I mentor them and make sure they’re advancing in their careers. I do my best to shield them from the rest of management doing stupid shit. My employees like working for me.

The other day one of my employees came to ask if she could change her hours on Mondays. I said yes immediately because it’s helpful for me to know when she’s here and when she’s not, but as long as she gets her work done I don’t care when and where she does it. She then proceeded to tell me that it was so she could attend therapy and like … I will never use this information but … as a general rule don’t fucking do that.

Do not tell your employer shit about your mental or physical health except for the bare minimum needed to request a reasonable accommodation. Even your nice boss can fire you, even your nice boss can unfairly change your working conditions, and even your nice boss at some point is probably going to face pressure from their superiors.

Which is not to say he doesn’t know Danny’s a bit of a sass meister, period. Just that his usual exposure to Danny’s range of snark is from a lighthearted place. Usually when he’s giving Bruce or Alfred a hard time, but doesn’t actually mean anything out of it. Which his tone and language usually reflect.

It doesn’t consciously occur to him that his kid could use his smart-mouth for violence until it’s already happening and the words are out in the air.

Danny (to someone else): wow. i thought you’d be jailbirding it up with your tax fraud friend. Doesn’t your type travel in herds?

Bruce (somewhere nearby): *record_scratch.wav*

Whenever I redesign Danny's ghost form in my aus and try to incorporate the trope of "ghosts containing features that symbolize the way they died" into the design, my mind always inevitably wanders to the full extent of injuries his corpse could have sustained.

And, inevitably, since I tend to lean towards "plausible realism", my mind always wanders to how graphic those injuries would be.

Whether its the electricity that kills him or the radiation/plasma of the portal itself, the end result is the same: Danny is hit with enough sheer energy to rip a hole through reality.

His corpse is going to be covered in severe, charred black burns. If we wanna follow the route of high voltage electrocution: hello exposed bone.

That's enough heat to fuse the fabric of his suit to his skin. To steal from a friend: his eyes are gonna pop like grapes. Melt right out of his head.

Melt everything else too!

So from then on whenever one of us called something problematic, he would make us talk it out until we could name the “bad” thing we were hinting at. In this particular class, 7/10 it was some type of oppression, and the remainder was like, “I’m uncomfortable because this is very new/confusing/pushing boundaries that made me feel safe.”

Once we stopped calling things “problematic” and stopping at that, class got way more interesting and... we all had to say, like, “that’s racist” or “that’s misogynistic” or “ew capitalism gross” out loud, which a lot of us had never done in a classroom before. Or we had to be like, “Uhhh... I’m not sure what’s so bad?” and confront our own beliefs and that was maybe even more useful.
