They were found and taken to an orphanage. Link was isolated because everyone always said that he had too much of a hero to being a simple kid. If someone tried to take Ashley, he would say he wouldn't go if he was separated from Link. All that happened and was happening made Ashley stop being a kid at a short age, and made Link emotionally dependent of his brother.

On Hyrule there's a law, that says that if a orphan kid is not adopted at the age of 13, they would be taken to the castle and they will be taught a profession in hopes to give them a good life. When Ashley turned 13 he had to leave Link behind.

Link tried again to escpe and go to where Ashley was but he was kept on the orphanage, and that made people more wary of him because he was too determined and had a too strong will just like the heroes. At one point, Link tried to keep hidden that about him, but it was in his nature, so everytime he saw someone needing help he went to help even if he tried to ignore it.

When Link turned 13 too and went to the castle, the knights said that they needed someone as strong willed and courageous like him and decided to train him like a knight.

The knights tried to make him wield a sword but Link knew that the heroes, even if they knew how to wield many weapons, their main one was the sword. So Link refused to even touch a sword, but he did pretty bad with other weapons.

The other rookies harassed him because of how much he refused to grab a sword and because of how bad he was doing. They took his gloves from him and saw that he was only covering his left hand, the rookies thought he was hiding a bad scar so they managed to grab Link's hand and saw what he was hiding. When they saw the triforce mark, they went to the knights and captains who took Link to decide what to do with him.

At the end, he was taken with the princess. And the princess was just like him about her destiny.

Hylia noticed that Demise's power was coming back again and now too strong. Demise's power was kinda weak on the hero of time's era thanks to the hero of the skies' actions, and the split of the timeline kept that power divided and weak, but the timeline was merged again on the hero of warriors' era, that power was sealed by Rauru and on the hero of wild's era the calamity had it's power still divided. When Wild killed Ganondorf, that power stopped being divided. So Hylia decided to be reborn again as Zelda and once more try to ask to the triforce her wish so maybe she could do something about that power.

But when Hylia's soul was descending to the mortal world, Demise's aura was everywhere and she had to use her powers to not be corrupted. The thing is, that because of that, the princess Zelda even if she's a mortal, she has the power of a deity, a power she can't really control and has brought too many problems. She had the triforce mark too, but she also cried tears made of gold that could bless and curse alike. Her wishes were taken to literal because her divine powers couldn't understand the mind of a mortal.

Zelda was locked too on the castle and everyone tried to keep her in a great mood. Too many people has been accidentaly cursed by Zelda and she feels guilty about that. When she meets Link, she instantly grows fond of him, he just like her, was a kid trying to hid what was supposed to be a blessing but brought only problems, both didn't want their destiny and both were tied to something they never asked for.

Link still refused to wield a sword, so he was taken to the sages and their apprentices to decide what would be of him. When Link was among the sages he found Ashley again, who was now being the apprentice to be the sage of light. When he was taken to the castle, they discovered that Ashley had a great magic and he escalated until he became an apprentice of a sage.

The brothers reunited and Ashley tried to reassure Link saying that he will try to help him as much as he could. But at the the end, the sages decided to take Link to Kakariko, where he would receive a training. The sheikah once more tried to force Link to grab a sword but just like any other hero, he never gave up and the sheikah were the ones to give up. The weapon he was given was a guisarme, Link wasn't that bad with that one so that would have to work.

Link was trained with the sheikah until he was a proper knight. Then it was decided that he would be Zelda's escort, the hero and the princess had to be together after all when the evil strikes. And now, both being 16 years old, they spent time together and they fell in love.

They had a beautiful year, the kingdom was doing great, Zelda managed to keep her powers at bay, Link happily was her escort and Ashley now the sage of light checked on them here and there.

But when Zelda turned 17, finally Demise's power decided to attack. And it was just like the calamity that happened before them but now the corruption was everywhere and not only on pools of corruption. The king and queen died, many restored ruins were destroyed again and the kingdom saw once more another calamity.

Zelda tried her best with her powers but it wasn't enough, the sages tried to support her but all of them were corrupted and turned into monsters, while Link since he didn't have the master sword, died. Zelda started to cry completely, wishing for a way to save the sages from the corruption, and for Link to be at her side forever. But she also wished for the princesses of the past to help her purify the corruption and for the heroes of old to fight against the evil.

Zelda's tears and powers only managed to create a seal. Zelda kept the corruption under the castle but she had to be sitting on her throne all time for the seal to work. Her wishes became true but they were twisted. The sages were turned into divine beasts, their dark world form and ironically even if Ashley was the sage of light, he was turned into a crow. Link was put to rest on a sarcophagus, while Zelda's tears purified him and little by little were making him to come back. Also 10 temples arised from earth and 9 monsters started to roam near those temples.

25 years passed. And one day while Dampe was working, he heard hits from inside the sarcophagus where Link was. Dampe broke it and Link arised, but he wasn't exactly alive, he wasn't breathing. Dampe helped Link and not so longer after, a crow was near them.

Dampe knew the story behind Link, and after seeing the hero didn't have any memories, he wanted to give him a calm "life" so he forbid Link to go out of the graveyard and their home. Link was in a home, with a father and a funny talking crow that said his name was Ash and he grew too fond of, his life should be good right? But Link wished for more, he wanted to explore, to adventure, to get out of there.

Ash never stopped him from trying to break free, but Dampe did many times. One day Link and Dampe had a fight so bad that made Link run away and Dampe didn't follow. Ash took Link to some ruins that once belonged to the knights, there Link found a green tunic, a sheikah armor, a guisarme and a sword. Even if Link took both weapons, he wielded the guisarme since the sword felt too foreign on his hands.

Link started to explore and adventure, Ash kept guiding him and now he was a moral compass to Link. Link kept all those hero traits, but now his wit made him mischievous, his wish to adventure only took him from here to there without purpose, and his wish to fight only made him pick fights for the sake of doing it. Ash tried his best to guide him but it was hard.

One of those days, Link found a monster, a horrible monster with four faces and surrounded by rats. Link decided to take it out of its misery. It didn't matter though how many times Link defeated the monster, it always came back so Ash using the little power he had left searched for a way to finish this battle. Ash discovered that the monster could only be purified using the skull of one of those rats, a way to give it "a divine beast" and when Link did that, instead of the monster he found the hero of the four swords.

Four was very confused about what happened, he knows he lived a life, he married Dot and was a king until he went to the palace of the four swords, his shadow was stolen and he fell sick until he died. But now he was there, looking like when he was on his 4th adventure. So the little group went to investigate the temple near there to see if they could find answers, at the end of it, they found Dot.

Dot being the princess and having the blood of the goddess knew what was happening so she explained. The actual princess Zelda called the nine strongest heroes of history and for their princesses to help her, but she didn't know any of them so she brought back the concepts. The heroes became monsters who only knew how to attack because Zelda didn't see them as persons but legends that managed to get through anything while the princesses became temples because she only saw them as sacred souls that protected. Dot couldn't go out of the temple so she stayed there to do as much purification as she could.

And Four decided to search for his brothers and took Link with him. Link was then named Gold because on his veins instead of blood there was boiling liquid gold and even his scars had a golden color.

They were finding each hero and their princess. Wind and Tetra, Hyrule, Dawn and Aurora and Wild and Flora.

Wild saw how Gold was only following because the others were telling him to. How he didn't know how to wield a sword and he was just a lost boy without memories. Time was a mentor to Twilight, Twilight was a mentor to Wild, and Wild knowing that same feelings and experiences that Gold was having, Wild became a mentor to Gold.

They kept finding the rest of the heroes and their princencess. Twilight and Dusk, Wars and Artemis, Legend and Fable, Time and Lullaby and finally, the original hero and princess, Sky and Sun.

The Zeldas remained as pillars purifying the lands and the heroes, while the group of heroes worked together like if it was as natural as breathing, but Gold was excluded since he didn't know any of them. Although he didn't mind, it did make him feel like he was superfluous in the group but he wasn't really trying to do anything really.

Sky would be investigating what evil is attacking them and how to stop it, Four would be teaching people how to defend themselves and make weapons, Time would be gathering the sages, Legend would be restoring hope to the people by solving their problems, Hyrule would be making sure the Zeldas were safe and continued purifying, Twilight would be helping nature to heal, Wind would be searching for the master sword, Wars would be eliminating as many monsters as he could, and Wild will be traversing the map in search of strategic points while teaching and guiding Gold.

Gold slowly spiraled downward. He only wanted to fight and explore, he wasn't really interested on doing hero's stuff and was growing desperate at being called a hero or forced to help. In that darkness, he was consumed by the calamity, a part of him that the Zeldas couldn't cleanse. This ultimately corrupted Gold, turning him into a monster just like all the others had once been.

The Links managed to save him, but in the process, Ash had to sacrifice himself to become the skull Gold needed. Gold was completely broken. Although Ash was bossy and often corrected him, Ash always knew what he needed, what he felt, and cared for him and loved him deeply. From Gold's perspective, it was as if Ash knew even the smallest fragments of his soul without knowing that Ash was his older brother.

This sacrifice caused Gold to blame himself deeply, but also to hate the calamity. Above all, it brought back the light of his soul, and that pain transformed into nobility and kindness, the light he had lost.

He asked Wild to teach him to wield the sword, and Wild agreed. The training was incredibly rigorous and demanding, far more so than any sheikah had ever trained Link before. The others forced Gold to fight them, until he finally managed to defeat them at least once. They continued fixing the kingdom bu teventually it would be time to head to the castle where Zelda now named Gilded was waiting, seated on her throne to keep the seal, hoping for her Link to come back.
