Rabbot are dating/together/married/its complicated and its only jack who figures out dennis is a vampire. Maybe he has a few nightshifts with the kid and nightshift is common territory for vampires so he has learned to recognise them. Problem is dennis has no set donor or money for bagged blood so jack offers himself up, at least a quick drink during the nights to keep dennis going (dennis quietly going "like a snack?" And jack is like "compare me to a protein bar one more time I dare you")
Anyways Dennis begs Jack to not tell Robby until he is ready and Jack agrees to it but its not easy hiding puncture marks in his neck from Robby, so dennis drinks from Jack's thigh. Its still noticeable if Robbt would look closely but its easier to distract him from it.
Anyways fast forward to Robby walking in on Dennis on his knees between jack's legs and the soft little sucking noises filling the room and Robby is shocked jsck is getting sucked off but then even more shocked when Dennis looks up eith blood on his lips and little fangs sticking out...

When robby is snorkeling or scuba diving in the bay, jack will always steal his swim fins He says its to be annoying but really its because he doesnt like how much faster Robby swims with them on, he doesnt want Robby to leave!
Dennis is a really good swimmer when he is healed but he never swims too far from Jack because he knows Jack hates it more than he lets on. When he is truly healed he even lets Jack hold on to his shoulder when Jack's tail is aching too much
Jack and Dennis not telling Robby that Dennis is pregnant? Dennis isnt sure how to do it and Jack is a little too emotionally constipated and is afraid to lose Robby to tell him even though the are both so excited about the guppy
Jack always bringing Robby shells and pretty rocks and too many raw fish as courting gifts and Dennis shyly starts putting his own small offerings alongside Jack's on the dock
Jack has beef with an octopus that lives in the south edge of the bay
Dennis offers to catch it but Jack suddenly backtracks cos he got fond of the octopus... he even named it

Consider if you will, dear friends:
Shark-based Merman Jack and his pseudo mates, marine biologists Robby and Dennis, who have both relocated to the small cottage on the seaside near Jack's little lagoon.
The lagoon is pretty far removed from... well everything. It's out on a peninsula, a notch in the shoreline carved out over millions of years by the wind and the waves. Because it's situated on the leeward side of the peninsula, it's relatively safe from most of the big storms that come through and the weather is typically perfect for Robby and Dennis to not only care for Jack but also observe the other marine species.
It's almost like taking care of an island lighthouse, being in such a secluded area. Where the peninsula meets the rest of the land, there are dense forests that aren't really travel-able by foot or by driving, so anyone coming and going from the lagoon base has to take a ferry or a helicopter. There's a radio connection to the main base that they use to report their findings and updates about the base. Their food and other supplies get flown over from the mainland once a month.
Robby had met Jack when he was still a young, up-and-coming biologist. He had been picked for the remote station, and instead of a month of isolation studying seaweed and corals, he found Jack.
Jack, a merfolk whose lower body resembled that of a tiger shark, had claimed the enclosed lagoon near the research cottage. It was shallow and the current didn't pull as much, making it easier for Jack to get around; he wasn't nearly as fast or as powerful as he had been before losing part of his tail.
Him and Robby became quick friends, Robby’s enthusiasm to study and learn about Jack matched with Jack’s longing for company. Jack was a good companion; witty and sarcastic if not a little crass. Robby couldn't help falling in love with him as he requested more and more time at the peninsula station.
Dennis had arrived at the station years later, bright eyed and bushy tailed with an eagerness to learn about anything he could get his hands on. Jack was immediately obsessed with him, letting him hold onto his dorsal fin as he swam around the lagoon. Robby was careful to watch the two after learning the hard way that Dennis was a very poor swimmer.
Dennis became Jack’s guppy… but he quickly became Robby’s lover. The young man was attentive and attractive; it didn't take long at all for Robby to fall head over heels for him.
Their relationship with Jack became less than ethical during Jack’s mating season. Sure, Robby had been helping out the merfolk with his rut for a while, but bringing Dennis into the fold proved to be the thing that pushed the purely functional activity to something so much more.
It was kind of the perfect situation for the three of them. Robby and Dennis got the freedom to observe the environment and conduct their own studies with supplies that are paid for by grants, but were also free to explore their less-than-conventional relationship with the shark hybrid merman that stalked the lagoon. And of course, Jack is happy to have company, even if they were weird and soft.
And everything is going well until they get word from the mainland that there's a big storm coming. I'm talking about a once-in-a-lifetime global-warming scale storm.
Robby and Dennis tell Jack to swim out to deeper water to protect himself from the storm, but he's a stubborn bastard of course, so he refuses and is adamant about staying. The storm grows closer and closer as Dennis and Robby scramble to gather the supplies they have left. The wind picks up and Robby goes down to the lagoon one more time, telling Jack that he's a damn fool for staying in the lagoon instead of heading for deeper water. That he's going to be dashed against the rocks and he'll be dead before they can get down there to even say goodbye. The turning point is when Robby brings up Dennis.
"What if your guppy finds you? You want your last act on this earth to be traumatizing one of the men you love?"
Jack chokes up bringing Robby down to kiss him aggressively, his sharp teeth making little knicks in Robby's lips. M
"I love you. I love Dennis too. Please tell him for me."
And then he's gone, navigating the waves and rocks out to the open sea.
The storm starts in earnest as soon as Robby reaches the cottage. Him and Dennis barricade themselves in, but it's no use. The winds rip apart the roof and shatter the windows. The waves are cresting over the cliff side and the cottage begins to flood, Robby holding tight to Dennis who still isn't a very good swimmer. It's the most painful thing in his life when a huge wave crashes over the cliff, sending a giant swell of water careening into the cottage, and Robby screams as Dennis is ripped out of his arms by the backflow.
Robby is distraught, screaming and crying out for Dennis as the storm rages on. At some point he loses consciousness from getting pounded by the water and debris. He wakes up to the sun shining in his eyes and sea water in his throat; rolls over and throws up a bit before he stands up.
The peninsula is wrecked. The rock walls that had shielded the lagoon from the current have toppled inwards, making the lagoon into more of a tide pool than anything. The cottage is completely destroyed, only the stone foundations left standing. Robby can't help but think it's some grand cosmic joke that he's still alive. He can't find Dennis *anywhere*. He searches everywhere, the coastline, the lagoon, the cliffs, even the windward side of the island to no avail. And as he looks out to the sea, there's no sign of Jack either.
After hours of searching for a sign of either of the men he loved, he collapses near the ruined lagoon and resigns himself to oblivion.
Or he would have, if a large splash followed by a familiar yell hadn't caught his attention from outside of the lagoon.
He uses every last bit of energy he has to climb up the rocks and as he crests the rubble, he sees Jack holding a limp Dennis in his arms. Robby nearly kills himself getting down the cliff to the water's edge, where Jack is waiting with Dennis's body laying on the rocks in front of him. Robby skids over to him and starts checking his vitals, his heart plummeting when he can't find a pulse.
Jack is silent in the water next to them as Robby starts chest compressions, giving rescue breaths and checking his pulse when needed. Jack can't cry, physically it's not in his biology to cry. But he's visibly distraught, swimming up and down the length of the beach as Robby works on Dennis.
After what feels like a lifetime, Dennis lurches, coughing up sea water from his lungs as he struggles to breathe again.
Robby is on him immediately, pulling him close and holding him tighter than he should for someone who definitely had a bruised rib or two from CPR. But Robby can't help it, his Dennis is back, in his arms, and he's *alive*.
Meanwhile Jack has stayed back, watching as the two embraced. He feels guilty, feels like he should have pressed harder to find somewhere safer for them. He feels like he failed his mates - failed to protect them.
But Dennis, sweet Dennis who can't swim and was just brought back from the depths of the ocean and death itself, managed to pry himself away from Robby to crawl to the edge of the water, holding his hands out to Jack and embracing him as well.
"You saved me, Jack," he croaked. "I love you so much."
They have a long way to go to get back to normal, Robby and Dennis will need to send word back to the main base that they're still alive, they'll need to start rebuilding. Jack will have to make the decision to clear out the lagoon or find somewhere safer. But they're all alive and together. And at this point, that's all they can ask for.
I just had this vision of Dennis being so skinny when he arrives so when he starts to chub up a little Robby is just thriving thinking Jack and him are taking proper care of dennis and he is getting healthy. But then Dennis starts talking about the guppy and Jack is a little extra protective (although I feel like he would want Robby even closer than usual) and it takes Robby embarrassingly long for a biologist to catch on onto the fact that Dennis is pregnant 🤣

Something something... Marine biologist!Robby who works on merman/mermaid research and Jack as the geumpy old merman with a torn fin from a boat accident who has been in Robby's care for like 15+ years.
Jack has a beautiful bay to swim in now that is still safe as he isnt so fast anymore with his injury, and Robby lives in a cottage next to the bay and keeps an eye on Jack while working other projects and he makes qay too many jokes about how they are growing old together.
He is also very aware that Jack sees him as mate, that the shells and rocks and fish he brings Robby is courting behavior and okay maybe they make out on the regular but like... for science, yeah?
Then either Dennis joins as student and Robby is a little jealous Jack seems to like the kid so much and is quite easy around him (aka not as much of a grumpy ol' fish) but Dennis is a good student who clearly cares as much about merman wellbeing as Robby.
Alternatively, Dennis is a young merman found malnourished and tangled in fishing nets and after the main merman population in the rehab facility was pushing him around too much, Robby decides to bring him to Jack's bay.
Jack complaining very loudly about having to share his bay but when robby says he will relocate Dennis then, Jack is quick to argue it would be too stressful and he better stay... he secretly loves having the younger's company and is vedy set on "fattening the kid back up"
And then smthn smthn smthn... turns out Dennis can get pregnant and is carrying Jack's guppy now
I cant help but think of the following pope and dennis idea:
Pope who got out when he was like 25 or maybe even a little younger and fleeing to rural Nebraska thinking Smurf wont ever find him there. He manages to get a position as farmhand on a small family farm, he doesnt really get paid but he gets a bed and food and its enough.
The couple running the farm has a bunch of sons and the youngest one is a scrawny little 10 year old named Dennis. He is pushed around a lot by his older brothers and he seems like a gentle sould but his family clearly doesnt appreciate that side of him. And Pope isnt much better but he tries to be gentle to the young boy and sits patiently when Dennis rambles away at him about the adventures the chickens had that day.
Dennis decided Pope is nice and following him around like a little shadow and Pope shockingly realises the boy feels safer with him than his own family! Pope sleeping in the hay loft and Dennis sneaks in some nights and snuggles up to Pope and Pope lets him...
Pope eventually leaves in quite the rush when he hears a rumor that Smurf is looking for him and he doesnt think he will ever see Dennis again.
The next few years are hard but eventually Pope manages to find hid half-brother Jack in Pittsburgh and stays with Jack and Robby while eventually starting to work in the cleaning and maintenance department in the hospital.
Imagine his surprise when a bunch of new med students are starting one day and Andrew comes in to clean up after a spill and sees very familiar tired blue eyes on a med student covered in way too many gross fluids lol. Dennis recognising Pope too and the two judt stare at each other in shock (idk i feel like both really want to hug the other but think the other doesnt want that so they hust stare feom a distance lol)
Dennis being the youngest kid in his family by far and his parents would never approve of his lifestyle rn (or even the fact he is a doctor really) but his oldest brother who is like 15 years maybe more older than Dennis is secretly so supportive?
He hasnt been the perfect older brother when they were growing up but after moving away from the farm himself he realises he was very wrong to Dennis and how much Dennis was let down by the family.
The brother moving to Pittsburgh just to be close to Dennis and quietly helping where he csn without letting Dennis know he os there because he knows he doesnt deserve a place in Dennis's life!
And maybe their reunion is the brother brought into the emergency room after an accident? And he is so emotional seeing Dennis!
Dennis being unsure about reconnecting because well, he has 2 older boyfriends now and his family surely would never approve but his brother doesnt care, he just wants Denny happy and safe
I love the idea of therapy dog!Dennis but make it Popewhit with established rabbot:
Jack finding his half-brother again after decades apart and he is so proud Andrew managed to get out of Smurf's claws! But Andrew clearly is struggling with a lot still and as much as he and Robby try to help Andrew, they can only do so much. Especially when they have to work and Andrew is home alone with his thoughts...
So after some consideration, Jack and Robby buy/adopt/hire dog hybrid!Dennis. Looks like our usual tired boy but with fluffy blond dog ears on top of his head and a fluffy golden retriever tail. He is such a darling and is so good at supporting and calming Andrew and helps Andrew blossom!
Just rabbot coming home after a long shift and dennis is just flopped over Andrew providing body pressure and cuddles and everything that Andrew missed and what calms him and Andrew looks so content!
Dennis does get up to excitedly to greet Jack and Robby because he loves them too!! And they also give him so much loce and affection and he is just the happiest hybrid ever.
Dennis even getting a jacket to wear that says "therapy dog" and he is SO proud to wear it when he goes somewhere with Andrew!
But also do not mistake, he looks sweet but he is from a farm and basically a livestock guardian dog with his livestock being Andrew and Jack and Robby ofc. So if anyone upsets them, he isnt afraid to growl and protect!
Jack and Robby who have a massive soft spot for Dennis because they wanna fuck him but also for the other youngsters just without wanting to fuck them
But basically it ends up in Trinity, Dennis, Victoria, Mel and Samira (hell sometimes Parker and John join too) going out and either of the 2 older men going to pick them up and drive them home after.
It makes sense, neither of them sleep much anyways and both feel better knowing they are all home and safe. Do they keep the van they deemed too big for just the two of them and were supposed to exchange for a smaller car longer just so all of them fit in? Maybe.
Does Jack buy too many water bottles and snacks every shopping trip by accident? If you ask him, yes, but really he just prefers to keep the van stocked up cos the kids run HUNGRY when drunk.
Eventually it progresses to the group all sleeping on airmatresses in rabbot's living room because really its more convenient than driving all over town. There is a toothbrush and a pyjama set left by all of them for this very purpose lol and Robby gets really good at taking off makeup with the wipes Trinity brought over while they all giggle at him

This doesnt make much sense but rabbot meeting in their 30s when they both come to work at the same hosptial brcause both needed a more "secure" job as both recently required custody of their sons as single parents.
Jack didnt know Andrew existed until the tense 8 year old was dropped off at his house pretty much unannounced but there was no denying Andy was his... Andrew is an odd quiet boy and Jack holds a lot of guilt for not being there for him as he clearly went through a lot!
Robby having coparented his boy John for some years but the mom emigrated and John wanted to stay with papa! John is a bubbly goofy little 7 year old with big doe eyes ready to charm<3
Rabbot helping each other watch the boys and Andrew and John become friends even though they are vastly different! John ending up working at the hospital alongside them many years later as doctor, and Andrew works in the hospital too? It definitely is weird as fuck for the other staff seeing the younger versions of their bosses every day lol
