Badolato, Italy 🇮🇹

Badolato is a picturesque medieval village located in the Calabria region of southern Italy, overlooking the Ionian Sea.

Historically, Badolato dates back to the 11th century, when it was founded during the Byzantine period. Like many hilltop towns in southern Italy, it was built in an elevated position to protect its inhabitants from pirate attacks along the coast.

During the Middle Ages, Badolato developed as a small agricultural and defensive community, influenced by different rulers including the Byzantines, Normans, and later the Kingdom of Naples. Its narrow streets, ancient churches, and stone houses still reflect this layered history.

In the late 20th century, Badolato faced significant depopulation as many residents emigrated in search of better economic opportunities. However, the town gained international attention in the early 2000s when it welcomed refugees, helping to revive the local community and economy.

✮ “So that means if we solve the equation for X, we need to... Oh.”        “[soft snoring noises]”

✮ “Mh? Wha- what's happening?”        “You fell asleep on the couch waiting for me again.” “Your fault for being late...” “[forehead kiss] You're right. My apologies.”

✮ “Don't you look comfy. May I join?”        “You're the only thing still missing.”

✮ “Baby. Come to bed.”        “Just a second-” “No. Now, or you're sleeping on the couch.” “Alright, alright. I'm coming.”

Sometimes you don’t need a plot twist, you just need a little discomfort.

I bury my hands

in lunar skin

as I hasten

to avoid the wreckage

of guts

and desperate decisions.

I'm looking at a world

I can no longer identify

through the shattered glass

that litters a sidewalk

not far from where I live.

The disdain bubbles

as I ask a million questions

in a slurred speech

to a child

I abandoned

at a funeral

I was not invited to.

I've been branding

insults and terrible news

onto my flesh

since I learned

how to make fire

from the depths of rivers.

I partake

in whatever apocalypse

the universe has cooked today

but I know

I'll survive

with the taste of sulfur

Lately I've been into cozy fantasy, my recent favorite book is called Sorcery and Small Magics. I can't wait for book 2 to be out!
