Just Dead

Right, so, in light of Tumblr’s recent Final Bungle, I’m going to be mostly shutting down this account.

This isn’t exactly just about the infamous adult content ban, since this blog really isn’t for adult stuff, however it’s more taking a hint at the sign of the times and getting out while the getting’s good.

To clarify exactly why I’m cutting and running on this platform: Tumblr is owned by Oath, which is a subsidiary of Verizon. Verizon is the spitting image of corporate evil, and I hate them, for numerous good reasons. I’m not really going to spend the time to source up all the reasons they’re bastards, but it’s pretty much general knowledge if anyone wants to go look for receipts. They’re the company who shuts off phones on firefighters and reads all your emails for marketing data. Given this sterling corporate history, I had a bad feeling that it was only a matter of time for this platform when it was acquired, and that’s unfortunately turned out to be true. Tumblr is, in short, fundamentally mismanaged, and it actively and violently attempting to exterminate the only demographic niches that made it remotely desirable as a platform in the first place. I could go on at greater length, but, in short, the depths of persistent loathing I have for this platform really defy easy expression. Having a somewhat different community to other social media platforms was Tumblr’s only saving grace amid a constant slew of technical idiocy and complete lack of management intelligence, so now that they’re kicking out or pushing away the only groups who made the site worthwhile, it seems kinda obvious where things are headed.

As such, I’m going to be winding down this account. I won’t be deleting it outright, since there are a few people I do still want to follow here, but I will not be posting any of my content to the site in future, and will not be reblogging posts to in any way drive traffic on this shit show of a platform. I will also be deleting the side blog I kept exclusively for reblogging things, since it’s obviously antithetical to my plans going forward.

Goodbye, Tumblr. I’d say it was nice knowing you, but it really, really wasn’t.

Well, good job Tumblr for single-handedly destroying your platform in one easy step. Watching this hell-site go down in flames would be very enjoyable if it didn’t also involve a lot of great artists getting pushed off the platform by the deeply broken flagging system. The fundamental managerial ineptitude that has always been on display in Tumblr’s operation seems to have reached its peak level of confuckery, and I doubt the site will survive this round.

You will not be missed, Tumblr.
