i reeeaally like them because of their similarities. like you have a guy who would do absolutely anything to make sure his loved ones are safe, and you have the guy who sacrificed his entire being to help others. really bad at acknowledging their own emotional struggles but jump as soon as anyone (or eachother) seems off. they deserve to open up

it's just if they do i think they'd realize the advice they give eachother would apply to themselves as well. and u never wanna be called a hypocrite right so they just..dont. madara keeps everyone at arms length because he doesn't wanna make a mistake and hurt them, and rei is just beckoning him closer the best he can.. in my heart they are so important to eachother and espeeecially war era marked a lot of their bonding. well, 'bonding' more Surviving. i like writing abt that

another thing i really love about them is their themes of villainy. it's so strange because they both have big hearts and go out of their way to aid others, but you have madara who believes he's inherently awful and anything good he does is bare minimum. and rei who doesnt properly know how to be human or consider himself amongst humanity. they have iiiissuesss. and they wanna help eachother BUT WONT ALLOW THEMSELVES CARE. it's sofuckinggksjgc Gughfhgx.

madara is so patient with rei, and cares for him so much. he's pretty devoted but he's not a fan of devotion to humans.. it's a bit ironic. i think in this case some of his self loathing probably stems from that devotion. he can't control how he feels though
