There’s other instances of people randomly punching slaves that they didn’t even know because they got in their way or something. This was just normal behavior.

And slaves didn’t rebel en masse because if even one slave committed an act of violent rebellion it was common practice to kill every slave and former slave in the household.

People only took notice for posterity when these mass executions got into the hundreds of people. One of the few recorded for the history books is of over 400 people being killed because one guy stabbed his enslaver.

A rare piece of Texas prairie has been saved from future development

The preserve is one step closer to its 30,000-acre goal. 

A protected piece of the Katy Prairie is now off-limits to future development as conservationists continue expanding one of the Houston area's most important natural landscapes. The Coastal Prairie Conservancy announced this week that it has permanently protected another 60 acres in northwest Harris County, moving the nonprofit closer to its long-term goal of conserving 30,000 acres on the historic Katy Prairie. The preserve encompasses about 20,000 acres across western Harris and Waller counties just west of Houston. Located in the Upper Cypress Creek watershed, the newly-protected tract includes native prairie, seasonal wetlands and working agricultural land. According to the conservancy, preserving the property will help support wildlife habitat, provide natural flood storage and maintain the area’s natural landscape as development continues to spread across northwest Harris County...

There's also, COINTELPRO, the FBI's widespread efforts to target, surveil, infiltrate, discredit, and disrupt various political parties domestically (+ 50 years ago, the exposure of FBI "undemocratic abuses" against civil rights and anti-war activists). Given the systematic punishing and push back against advocating for Palestinian rights and liberation, i would also advise people to read up on McCarthyism and the Red Scare (Wikipedia, National Archives, Miller Center) + The Attacks on Academic Freedom During the McCarthy Era, to start with.
