my brain: The Ivory King was a merciful warrior who would always take action in times of need and who built his kingdom with the sole purpose of containing the Old Chaos, a primeval force of destruction. He built a walled kingdom and had priestesses soothe the powerful entity. He placed his throne at the entrance to the old chaos in order to serve as first line of defense and accepted Alsanna, a literal child of darkness and the embodiment of fear, into his life as his queen and believed in her so much than when the time came that he felt himself starting to decay he left everything to her and plunged himself into the chaos in an attempt to destroy it. Such was the impact he had on this child of dark, this force of evil originally bent on destroying him and his kingdom (something all the other children of dark did in their respective kingdoms), that she actually followed his wishes and not only kept watch over the kingdom and continued to soothe the chaos but also explicitly tells the player that she admires her king and wishes for his soul to find peace. The ivory king is one of the few characters in the series who fully deserves to be called a hero.

what makes me so crazy about my cadash's relationship with blackwall is that they're literally the same fucking person. they've done inexcusable things in exchange for their own gain and have allowed harm to fall onto others in return for their own continued safety, and when they meet, they're BOTH lying about it. rainier obviously by lying about being blackwall and my cadash by allowing this new mantle of being the herald to sort of overshine his past of being part of the carta. they're both hiding behind something perceived to be much more noble than what they actually are. killers. liars. thieves. cowards.
