Jungle Rot PT2 - Robert Leckie
MASTERLIST
THE PACIFIC MASTERLIST
Part 1
The bustling streets of Melbourne hummed with activity as H Company found themselves stationed in the heart of the city.
It was a welcome respite from the sweltering jungles of Guadalcanal, the air cooler and the atmosphere more relaxed. The decision to bring the Marines to Melbourne before the upcoming Peleliu campaign wasn't just about rest; it was strategic.
The city provided a chance for the soldiers to decompress, to experience a taste of normalcy before returning to the brutal realities of war.
However, amidst the vibrant chaos of Melbourne's streets, Robert Leckie found himself on a different kind of mission.
Despite his best efforts, he hadn't been able to locate the elusive medic, neither below deck nor above.
Even in the temporary barracks set up in the massive cricket ground, she seemed to be nowhere in sight.
But fate had other plans for him that day.
As luck would have it, amidst the throngs of people, he spotted her—walking alone, her uniform crisp, against the backdrop of the bustling city.
With a surge of determination, Robert pushed off the bench he was sitting on leaving his friends in the dust.
He quickened his pace, weaving through the crowd to catch up with her.
"Hey, wait up!" he called out, his voice cutting through the cacophony of sounds around them.
The medic turned, her expression guarded as she recognised Leckie. "What do you want, Marine?"
He slowed to a stop, a slight pant in his breath from the chase.
"I've been looking for you everywhere. Thought I'd never find you."
She raised an eyebrow, her demeanor cool and collected.
"And what makes you think I want to be found?"
Robert chuckled, his charm undiminished by her aloofness. "Maybe I just wanted to say hi."
She eyed him with a touch of doubt, but something in her eyes softened ever so slightly.
"Well, you found me."
Robert grinned, relieved at her response.
"Yeah, I did. How have you been?"
She shrugged nonchalantly. "Surviving. Same as always."
He nodded, understanding the sentiment all too well.
"Yeah, it's been a rough ride. But hey, we're here now. That's something, right?"
She gave a small nod, her gaze distant for a moment before returning to meet his.
"I suppose so."
Robert fell into step beside her as they continued down the bustling street, the rhythm of their footsteps falling into sync.
Despite the noise and chaos surrounding them, a sense of calm settled over him as he walked alongside her.
"You know," he began, breaking the comfortable silence between them, "I've been thinking about what you said back in Guadalcanal. About focusing on the mission and keeping things professional."
She glanced at him, curiosity flickering in her eyes. "And?"
Robert shrugged, a small smile playing on his lips. "I get it now. I do. But that doesn't mean we can't... I don't know, find a bit of humanity in all of this."
She considered his words for a moment before responding, her tone softening ever so slightly. "I suppose you have a point."
Robert nodded , seizing the opportunity to bridge the gap between them. "Exactly! So, what do you say we grab a drink sometime? Just two Marines enjoying a moment of peace"
She hesitated, her gaze flickering with uncertainty before finally nodding in agreement. "Sure, why not? I could use a break."
Robert couldn't suppress his grin, feeling a surge of triumph at the small victory.
"Great! How about now? I know a place not too far from here."
" Now? What about your friends?" she asked, looking back seeing the small group consisting of Chuckler, Hoosier, Runner and Sidney bogging the two of them out. Their new ice cream cones melting in their hands as they watched.
" They'll survive without me for one day" Robert waved them off.
She scoffed a laugh and stepped to the side, "Fine... lead the way Marine"
Robert's smile widened slightly, taking the lead through the bustling streets. The cacophony of sounds and the vibrant sights of Melbourne gradually melted into the background as they strolled along.
Finally coming across a quaint little bar tucked away in a quiet corner of the city.
He held open the door for her with a flourish, a grin spreading across his face. "After you, ma'am."
She hummed softly, a hint of amusement in her eyes as she stepped inside.
The dimly lit interior of the bar provided a welcome contrast to the chaos of the outside world, the soft murmur of conversation mingling with the clinking of glasses.
He Lead her to a table in the corner, away from the prying eyes of other patrons.
"So," He began, his voice tinged with excitement, "what's your poison?"
She glanced at the menu, a small smile playing on her lips. "Surprise me."
Robert grinned, motioning for the bartender to come over. "Two surprises, coming right up."
As they waited for their drinks, the soft glow of the bar's lights cast delicate shadows across her features.
Robert shifted in his seat, watching her play with one of the beer mats on the table, feeling the weight of the silence settle between them like a suffocating blanket. Desperate to break the tension, he grasped for conversation.
"So, uh... where are you staying around here?" he asked, his words hesitant.
She looked up from the beer mat, a gentle smile gracing her lips. "A place nearby," she answered softly, leaning in slightly. "In the same damn cricket stadium as you, Marine."
Embarrassment flooded Robert's cheeks, and he shifted in his seat, attempting to conceal his fluster. "Of course," he mumbled, feeling a flush of heat spread across his face.
She chuckled softly, her laughter like a balm to his nerves. "But I've been busy," she explained. "Helping at the hospital or nursing hungover Marines back to health before they go out and do it all again."
Relieved by her response, Robert pressed on, eager to keep the conversation flowing. "So, what do you think of the city so far?"
She shrugged, her gaze drifting away momentarily before returning to meet his. "It's... different," she admitted. "But I guess it's nice to have a break from the constant gunfire, screaming, blood, you know the usual."
Robert nodded in agreement, feeling a sense of camaraderie in their shared experiences. "Yeah, it's a lot different from that island," he agreed, grateful for the distraction as their drinks arrived.
As they toasted silently and savored their drinks, the hours slipped away in the cozy ambiance of the bar, with the day quickly turning into night.
Eventually, the medic glanced at her watch, a reluctant sigh escaping her lips.
"I hate to say it, but we should probably get going," she said, her tone tinged with regret.
Robert nodded reluctantly, realizing their time together was coming to an end. "Yeah, you're probably right," he admitted, pushing himself up from the table.
As they emerged from the warmth of the bar into the cooling night air, Robert couldn't shake the ping of disappointment that settled over him. The reality of war seemed to loom larger in the darkness, casting a shadow over their moment of respite.
Walking alongside the medic in silence, Robert felt the weight of their shared experiences pressing down on him. But as they reached the cricket ground, their paths about to diverge, he couldn't ignore the longing in his heart.
Stopping in their tracks, they turned to face each other, a silent understanding passing between them.
"You know," she began, her voice softening, "tonight was... it was nice. Thanks for the company."
Robert met her gaze, a warmth spreading through him. "Yeah, it was," he agreed, his voice barely above a whisper. "Anytime."
They lingered for a moment, the unspoken words hanging heavy in the air. Then, with a nod, the medic turned to leave.
But before she could go, she stopped, turned back to face Robert, and pressed a gentle kiss to his cheek.
"Goodnight, Robert," she murmured before disappearing into the darkness.
Robert stood there, stunned, feeling like he was floating on air. A smile tugged at his lips as he watched her go, savoring the moment before turning to head back to his quarters. But his reverie was abruptly interrupted by the sight of Hoosier, staring at him with wide eyes and a half-smoked cigarette dangling from his lips.
"Holy shit," he murmured, watching his friend smugly walk past him.

Reunion pt2 - Eugene ‘Doc’ Roe
MASTERLIST
BAND OF BROTHERS MASTERLIST
PART 1
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The days melded into nights amid the relentless chaos of the battlefield, each moment fraught with tension and uncertainty. For Eugene 'Doc' Roe, the memory of Y/n lingered like a beacon of hope amidst the darkness of war.
Once a distant acquaintance from high school, she was constantly on his mind, a reminder of a world beyond the brutality they faced daily.
His comrades began to notice his preoccupation, especially Edward 'Babe' Heffron, who settled beside him in the foxhole one evening, concern etched in his features.
"You've been quieter than usual, Roe. What's eating at you?" Babe prodded, his tone gentle yet insistent.
Roe hesitated, torn between the weight of his thoughts and the instinct to keep them hidden.
But as Babe persisted, the words spilled out almost involuntarily. "I ran into an old school friend at the hospital," he confessed, his voice tinged with uncertainty.
"She's a medic for Dog Company." Babe's eyebrows shot up in surprise. "Well, well, well, looks like Roe's been holding out on us," he teased, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
Roe's anxiety surged. "Keep it down, Babe! This is serious," he urged, a sense of urgency in his tone. "Her name's Y/n," he added, the weight of his secret finally lifted off his shoulders.
Babe held up his hands in surrender. "Alright, alright, lips are sealed," he promised, understanding the gravity of the situation.
They fell into a companionable silence, mindful of the need for sound discipline in their company.
" wow - Y/N huh? she must be some dame!" Babe joked, elbowing Eugene, both trying to stop shivering.
" she was somethin'" Eugene drawled, looking up into the night sky.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Months later, the Easy Company boys found themselves in Austria, the war in Europe over, but the battle in the Pacific still raging.
After being informed by Speirs that Easy Company would be deployed into the Pacific, morale was shattered once again.
"We will be training for war at 06:00," Speirs announced solemnly.
Eugene turned his head slightly, catching sight of someone he never thought he'd see again, Y/n , standing at the end of the platoon line. He felt a mix of emotions—relief to see her, yet sickened at the thought of her joining them in the Pacific.
"Eugene," she hummed, walking through the dispersing men.
"Y/n, what are you doing here?" Roe asked, his voice filled with concern.
"It's the end of the war in Europe, Gene. Pretty sure half the US Army is here-," she replied with a small smile.
She sighed after seeing his face contort into a sour expression, "I didn't have enough points to go home, so I asked for a transfer."
Roe pulled back slightly, his hands gently placed on her shoulders as he looked into her eyes, searching for any trace of doubt or fear. But all he found was unwavering strength and determination mirrored back at him.
"I was worried sick when I heard about the hospital bombing back in Bastogne," he admitted, squinting in the sunlight.
Y/n nodded, her gaze steady. "It was rough, but we were out in the field when it happened," she explained, a hint of sorrow in her voice. "A few good men got caught up in it all."
As they stood together, a sense of peace settled over them, a brief respite before they were thrown back into war again.
Then, some of the Easy boys clocked the two of them, shuffling over quickly. The group included Edward Babe Heffron, George Luz, Perconte, Joe Liebgott, and Webster.
Babe's eyes widened in realization as he approached, a grin spreading across his face. "Well, well, well, who do we have here? You gonna introduce us, Doc?" he exclaimed, nudging his comrades with an elbow.
"Roe's been keeping this one locked away, ain't he?" George spoke up, grinning at the two of them.
"What's this, Roe? Found yourself a sweetheart?" Perconte teased, a hint of humor in his voice.
Roe's cheeks flushed slightly as he exchanged a sheepish glance with Y/n. "Uh, guys, this is Y/n. She's the medic for Dog Company," he introduced, a note of warmth in his tone. "She's transferred to Easy now - she's gonna be jumping with us."
Babe stepped forward, extending his hand to Y/n with a grin. "I'm Babe Heffron, pleasure to meet you. Any friend of Roe's is a friend of ours," he said warmly, his easygoing demeanor putting Y/n at ease.
Y/n returned the handshake, a smile playing at her lips. "Nice to meet you all," she greeted, her voice laced with genuine warmth.
"Dog company, huh? You must know our captain, Speirs?" Joe Liebgott asked, curiosity evident in his tone.
Y/n chuckled, nodding her head. "Oh yeah, good ol' Speirs. Terrifying, isn't he?" she joked, a playful glint in her eyes. "But a damn good captain. We were all sorry to lose him to you Easy boys. - I'm glad to be in his company again for this, I'll tell you that much!"
The boys laughed at her remark. "Hey, we're on our way to play a little baseball - why don't you join us? Seeing as you're the newest medic for Easy!"
She agreed, letting the boys lead the way, while Roe lingered behind, slyly linking his arm with hers as they walked towards the baseball field.
The baseball game was in full swing, and for some, including Y/n, it was the first time they had genuinely smiled in months. They pushed the thought of jumping into the Pacific to the backs of their heads and tried to revel in the last moments of peace.
It was Roe's turn to hit the ball, and Perconte pitched. Roe swung with all his might, sending the ball soaring into the distance. Compton caught it and threw it directly to Y/n, who stood at the base Roe was running to.
"You're out, Medic man," she smirked as she caught the ball.
Roe stood up, a playful glint in his eye that even the Easy boys hadn't seen before. The two got up from the ground together, and Y/n felt her breath hitch as he took a step towards her.
"Na-a-a, get back, Mr.," she smirked, gently pushing at his chest, laughing slightly.
Just then, Winter and Nixon walked over with news, standing next to Speirs who called out to Easy to form a school circle. "Listen up - We've got some news," Winter said calmly. "This morning, President Truman received the unconditional surrender from the Japanese."
"The war is over,"
As soon as the words left Winter's mouth, the impact of the news reverberated through the gathered soldiers. Y/n's hand flew to her mouth in shock before instinctively reaching for Eugene's, seeking reassurance amidst the whirlwind of emotions.
She turned her head immediately to look at him, her eyes searching his face for confirmation, for solace.
Eugene, like the rest of them, wore a mixture of disbelief and relief etched into his features, the weight of years of hardship and sacrifice momentarily lifted from his shoulders.
As the words sank in, a wave of euphoria washed over the group. Some of the boys couldn't contain their joy any longer, and they erupted into cheers and whoops, their jubilant voices cutting through the tension that had lingered for so long.
Smiles broke out across faces that had grown accustomed to weariness and sorrow, and hugs were exchanged between comrades who had fought side by side through the darkest of days.
Caught up in the elation of the moment, Eugene acted on pure instinct. Without thinking, he swept Y/n up into his arms, her laughter ringing out like music amidst the cacophony of celebration. He spun her around in a full circle, the sheer relief and joy of the moment coursing through his veins like wildfire.
As they laughed together, he couldn't resist the overwhelming urge to kiss her.
Their passionate kiss elicited a few hoots and hollers from the surrounding men, the sound of their laughter serving as a backdrop to the intimate moment shared between her and Eugene.
In that fleeting instant, amidst the jubilation and the chaos, they found solace in each other's arms, a silent acknowledgment of all they had endured and all they had overcome.
"The war is over," Y/n whispered breathlessly as they finally broke apart, her voice filled with disbelief and wonder. And in that moment, standing amidst the jubilant throng of soldiers, Eugene knew that no matter what the future held, as long as they were together, they could weather any storm.

Reunion - Eugene 'Doc' Roe
WARNINGS: Mentions of death, war , blood etc
MASTERLIST
BAND OF BROTHERS MASTERLIST
The dimly lit church in Bastogne echoed with the distant sounds of artillery as She moved urgently through the makeshift medical station.
As a medic for Dog Company, she had seen the unforgiving toll that war took on the soldiers she tended to. Little did she know that amidst the chaos, fate had a reunion in store for her.
She and a team of men maneuverered through the crowded space, their wounded comrade's groans of pain filled the air. The tight quarters of the church made the task more challenging. Suddenly, as they rounded a corner, she nearly collided with a man standing in her way.
"Move out of the way!" she barked, her voice cutting through the urgency of the situation. With adrenaline coursing through her veins.
"Help! We need help over here!" She called out to the doctors and nurses in the makeshift hospital. The wounded man's life hung in the balance, and time was of the essence.
Without a second thought, Eugene 'Doc' Roe responded to her call. He rushed to assist, his training kicking in as he joined the frantic efforts to stop the bleeding. The urgency of the situation drowned out any chance for a proper introduction.
She continued to work on the fallen soldier, determined to exhaust every possibility of life. Even as the others began to slow, she snapped at them, "Why are you stopping!?" The weight of loss and desperation fuelled her determination.
Roe, without thinking, followed her instructions as the small team frantically tried to stop the bleeding. She shouted out commands, her focus entirely on the task at hand. "Exercez une pression ! Nous avons besoin de plus de bandages ! Appelez le médecin ici !"
("Apply pressure! We need more bandages! Get the doctor over here!")
"Merde," she mumbled under her breath as the situation became increasingly dire. In a moment of desperation, she ripped her helmet from her head, revealing her disheveled, dirty, plaited hair.
Roe's gaze lingered on her, recognition slowly dawning on his features. Even with her red-raw, wind-burnt face covered in small scars and scrapes, and her red-tired eyes, there was something unmistakable about her. The realisation struck him like a sudden revelation in the midst of the war's brutality — the familiar face before him was someone from his past.
Thankfully, the bleeding had been stabilised, the wounded soldier was tagged and whisked away to a space on the floor.
"Y/n?" Roe whispered quietly, taking a step towards her.
Caught in the midst of her duties, she didn't immediately recognize Roe. " Yes? - Who are you?" she asked, glancing briefly in his direction.
He continued, "Uh, Eugene, Roe? - God, I haven't seen you since -"
"High school," She finished, her eyes widening in recognition. The weight of the years lifted as realisation dawned on her. Roe nodded, a bittersweet smile playing on his lips.
"What company?" She asked, attempting to wipe the drying blood off her hands.
"Easy. You?" Roe responded.
She smiled slightly. "Dog Company - damn, we're just down the road!"
The two chuckled quietly , Before they could delve into further conversation, she was summoned.
"Ma'am, we have to head back," one of the soldiers announced, urgency in his voice pulling them back to the harsh reality of their duties.
She exchanged a quick, apologetic glance with Roe. "I'll catch up with you later," she promised, her eyes reflecting a mix of emotions.
Roe nodded understandingly.
"Thank you! Stay safe, Doc. Hopefully, I'll see you soon!"
But they both knew the battlefield, with its relentless demands, wouldn't allow for long reunions.
As She hurriedly joined her team, they disappeared into the crowded church, leaving behind the echoes of a reunion that had been long overdue.
A/N: idk if I like this one but pt2 maybe?
Hidden affections - Joe Liebgott
Masterlist
Band of brothers masterlist
The tension between Joe Liebgott and Y/N during basic training was palpable, their constant bickering earning them a reputation as the pair who couldn't stand each other. Yet, hidden beneath the surface, there was a strange connection that bound them together.
One evening at the bar, the air was thick with the familiar scent of cigarette smoke and the low hum of conversations.
She found herself watching Him from across the room, despite the tension that existed between them. His animated conversations with friends drew her attention, inadvertently coaxing a smile from her.
As she observed, George Luz snuck up behind her, curiosity etched on his face. "Who are you smiling at?" he asked, a playful tone in his voice.
However, his smile quickly faded and his expression shifted from playful to concerned as he followed her gaze to Joe Liebgott.
"Really? " George scoffed, looking at her like a disappointed parent "Liebgott?, after the way he acts around you?"
"It's complicated Luz" she replied, taking another sip of her beer.
Luz raised an eyebrow, unconvinced. "Complicated? That's one way to describe it. I mean, he acts like he can't stand you half the time."
She sighed, her gaze lingering on Joe as he laughed at something Talbert had said. "Yeah, well, maybe it's his way of dealing with things. Doesn't mean there's not something else there."
George smirked, leaning against the bar. "You're telling me there's something more to Liebgott than meets the eye? Colour me intrigued."
Chuckling she shook her head. "You wouldn't understand, Luz. It's like we're constantly at odds, but when it comes down to it, he's got my back. And I've got his."
George gave her a skeptical look. "Got his back? More like got each other's throats."
"Trust me, Luz, i know there's a lot more to Joe Liebgott than what he shows. " she replied cryptically, swirling her beer in her glass.
George sighed, "Well, just be careful. Liebgott's a complicated guy, and complicated usually means trouble."
She nodded in acknowledgment, a hint of a smile playing on her lips. "I can handle a little trouble."
--------------------------------------------------------
Liebgott sat at a nearby table, the conversation he was engrossed in had become irrelevant as his ear pricked up at the mention of Y/N's name from the table behind him , overhearing Roy Cobb, a fellow paratrooper, running his mouth about her to a group of new replacements.
"Y/n? Oh, you mean Easy Company's little sweetheart," Cobb remarked with a mocking tone, eliciting a few chuckles from the newcomers. "she's just a liability. She should've never shown her face in easy company! My bet is she's been playing the commander, putting on a show of competence that's going to get someone killed. Sobel should've gotten rid of her a long time ago."
Anger flared in Joe's eyes as he clenched his fists, his jaw tightening as Cobb continued to tarnish her name.
"And have you seen her? No wonder she hasn't found a man yet. Who would want to be with someone like her? It's not surprising she's still single; she's probably too busy ruining missions to care about settling down."
Unable to contain himself any longer, Joe jumped up from his table and approached Cobb's group with a scowl on his face.
"What the fuck did you just say about her?" Joe sneered at Cobb, who tried to laugh it off and reason with him. "Come on, Joe, you know what she's like – my bet is she's had half the company now-"
Before Cobb could finish his sentence, Joe's fist connected with his face, sending him sprawling to the floor. The commotion drew the attention of the entire bar, and the rest of Easy Company rushed to stop the impending fight.
She and Luz watched, exchanging puzzled glances. "What was that about?" She asked, concern furrowing her brow.
George shook his head. "I don't know, but Liebgott looks pissed."
As the men of Easy Company pulled Joe away from the scene, Cobb nursed his bleeding nose and shot a glare in her direction. She met his gaze with a cold intensity, her eyes daring him to say another word.
Joe, still seething, was restrained by his comrades. "You talk about her again, and I'll do more than just break your nose," he spat at Cobb, the words laced with a dangerous edge.
The bar returned to its uneasy quiet, the rumours quashed by the unexpected confrontation. Joe may have acted on impulse, but his protective instinct for her had been laid bare for everyone to see.
She watched as Joe stormed out of the bar in a huff, cursing under his breath. She placed her empty pint glass on the table in front of her and felt a sense of urgency to follow him. "Hey, where are you going?" George called out, walking back to the bar - no doubt to get another drink.
"Don't worry about it," she mumbled back, not wanting to explain as she made a beeline for the door Joe had just stormed out of. Once outside, the cold air hit her like a thousand tiny needles, causing her to shiver. Walking a few steps away from the door, she scanned the darkening area, the sun just starting to set, painting the sky with an orangey-red hue.
Her eyes fell upon Joe, leaning against one of the nearer barracks, smoking a cigarette. She took a deep breath and began walking towards him, the stones crunching under her shoes catching Joe's attention almost immediately , his jaw tightening in response.
"What are you doing out here?" Joe asked, stubbing out his cigarette. Ignoring Joe's question, She confronted him,
"What the hell was that back there?"
"Never you mind," Joe replied dismissively.
"Joseph Liebgott, I will mind. You punched a fellow paratrooper in the face!" Her tone carried a mix of disbelief and frustration, feeling as if she was scolding a schoolboy.
"Cobb said some shit that wasn't true, and I hit him – no big deal," Joe responded, trying to downplay the situation.
"What did he say, Joe?" She pressed, her voice rising a little.
"Damn it, Y/n, what is this, 21 questions?"
"Liebgott, tell me what he said!" She insisted, her frustration evident.
Joe sighed pushing off the barracks wall and walked over to her, the distance between them closing until they were almost nose to nose , his breath fanning her face, the smell of the recent cigarette lingering in the air.
Joe's gaze softened, and he let out a heavy sigh. "Look, I might not always show it, but I don't like hearing lies about people I... care about," he admitted gruffly, avoiding direct eye contact.
Her expression softened in return. "Care about? Liebgott, you're not known for being the sentimental type. Why would you care about what Cobb says about me?"
Joe hesitated for a moment, his jaw clenching. "I hate to admit it, but... I don't like the idea of anyone talking crap about you. Especially when it's a load of bullshit."
Her eyes widened, surprised by his admission. "Joe Liebgott, did you just say something vaguely nice about me?"
He scoffed, trying to deflect. "Don't get used to it. I just... I don't know, I just don't like people thinking less of you because of some idiot's lies."
A small smile played on her lips. "Well, I appreciate that, Joe. It's strange, you know? Despite all the bickering, I never thought you'd... care."
Joe mumbled something incoherent, avoiding her gaze. The tension between them lingered, the unspoken words hanging in the cold air. , Feeling a mix of emotions, She took a step closer to Joe.
"I don't hate you, Y/n. I might not show it, but I..." Joe's gruff words trailed off, and before he could finish, She closed the remaining distance between them, pressing her lips against his. It was a moment of unexpected intimacy, fuelled by the unspoken emotions they both struggled to express.
Breaking the kiss, Joe sighed, his forehead resting against hers. "I hate to admit it, but I... I like you, a lot."
She looked at him, a mix of surprise and a small smile playing on her lips. "Well, that's something," she said, a teasing glint in her eyes.
Joe rolled his eyes but couldn't hide a smirk. "Yeah, yeah, don't get used to it."
As they stood there, the realisation of the unexpected turn of events settled in. The tension that once hung between them had transformed into something different – something neither of them had anticipated.
JUNGLE ROT - ROBERT LECKIE
Under the sweltering heat of the jungle of Guadalcanal , Robert Leckie found himself standing in line for jungle rot checks, his gaze fixed on the determined corp-woman conducting the examination. Chuckler, Runner, Hoosier, and Sydney Philips stood nearby, watching with amusement as Leckie, usually a man of wit and charm, fumbled over his words.
Leckie, always the charmer, leaned against a tree, his eyes fixed on the medic.
"Well, hello there, beautiful. You here to check if I'm still in one piece? You, uhh, checking us for jungle rot?"
The corp-woman glanced up from her clipboard, She rolled her eyes, clearly unimpressed. "Save the charm for someone who cares, Marine. I'm just trying to make sure you don't lose a limb to jungle rot. My job is to make sure you're all fit for duty."
Leckie nodded, trying to regain composure. "Right, of course. Duty. Important. Very important."
Chuckler nudged Runner, smirking. "Looks like Leckie finally met his match."
Runner added with a grin, "Yeah, she's not falling for his smooth talk."
Hoosier raised an eyebrow, glancing at the two men with a bemused expression, " you call that smooth talkin'?"
Leckie, unaware of the exchange, continued his attempt at conversation. "So, uh, what's your name?"
She raised an eyebrow, unimpressed. "That's not important. Just focus on the inspection."
Leckie's cheeks flushed slightly as he stuttered, "Okay. Sorry."
As the corp-woman examined him, she instructed, "Can you lift your shirt for me?"
Leckie, finding a sudden spurt of bravery, retorted with a chuckle, "Wanna buy me dinner first?"
The boys, including Chuckler and Hoosier, chuckled at Leckie's quip. Even the corp-woman couldn't suppress a small smile. "Just lift your shirt, Marine."
Leckie obliged, feeling a rush of satisfaction at his small victory. The corp-woman continued her examination, her professionalism evident despite the banter.
Once the inspection was over, Leckie flashed her a sheepish grin. "Thanks for, um, checking me over."
She nodded, her demeanor softening slightly. "No problem. Just doing my job."
As Leckie rejoined his comrades, Chuckler, still laughing, caught the attention of the corp-woman. Despite being caked in wet sand, mud, and possibly other bodily fluids, she held herself with a sense of confidence. Chuckler couldn't help but admire her self-assuredness.
The corp-woman met Chuckler's gaze and said, "You next."
Chuckler's laughter subsided as he gave her a mock salute. "Ready when you are, ma'am."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The following day, under the scorching sun, Leckie found himself once again trailing the corp-woman as she moved from one Marine to another. Gathering his courage, he fell into step beside her. "Hey, uh, I was just wondering, why did you join the Corps? What's your story?"
She shot him a sidelong glance, her expression guarded. "Why does it matter?"
Leckie stumbled over his words, attempting to articulate his curiosity. "I-I just thought, you know, we're all here, facing the same hell. Figured we could share a bit about ourselves, maybe make this place a bit more bearable."
Her gaze softened for a moment, and she sighed. "Fine. My story is nothing special. I joined because I wanted to make a difference, and this seemed like the way to do it."
Leckie nodded, sensing there was more to it. "And your family? You got siblings back home?"
Her eyes flickered with a mix of sadness and reluctance. "No family. No siblings. I was left on the steps of my local church when I was a baby"
Leckie's eyes widened in surprise, and his tone softened. " oh uh - that must've been tough growing up without a family."
She shrugged, her expression hardening again. "Life's tough for everyone, Marine. I learned to fend for myself."
Leckie, wanting to connect on a personal level, continued, "I get that. I really do. My family's not perfect either, but they're mine, you know? We may not always see eye to eye, but we're family."
She shot him a warning look. "Don't try to pity me, Robert. I don't need it."
Leckie, recognizing her need for distance, held up his hands defensively. "No pity, just... trying to understand. We're all in this together."
As they walked, Leckie found himself stealing glances at her. In the harsh sunlight, he couldn't help but notice the way her hair caught the light, or the determination in her eyes. For a split second, he forgot all about Vera back home. She was the most beautiful thing he'd ever seen.
Her stern gaze met his, and she spoke with finality. "I joined the Corps to focus on the mission. Not to make friends or share sob stories. Let's keep it professional."
Leckie, despite his genuine attempt to connect, nodded in understanding. "Alright, professional it is. But if you ever want to talk, I'm here."
She grunted slightly, simply walked away, leaving Robert standing there, a mix of sympathy and respect in his eyes, as he watched her disappear into the crowded beach.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
As night fell over the battleground, the distant echoes of gunfire and the quiet hum of conversations filled the air. Robert lay on his makeshift cot, ( a lump of soil he formed into the shape of a bed in his foxhole) staring into the darkness, his mind consumed by thoughts of the female medic.
"You know she was given up as a child?" he said into the still night, almost as if talking to the shadows around him.
Hoosier, who was on watch duty, sat nearby, cleaning his rifle with practiced precision. He took a drag from his cigarette, the ember glowing in the darkness, and replied in a nonchalant tone, "Yeah, heard somethin' about that."
Robert turned his head toward Hoosier, his expression thoughtful. "Can't imagine what that must've been like for her, growing up without a family."
Hoosier exhaled a plume of smoke, his eyes gazing into the distance. "War makes strange bedfellows, Leckie. We all got our own demons to deal with."
Leckie nodded in acknowledgment, his gaze returning to the black expanse above. "Yeah, I suppose so. Still, she's somethin', ain't she? Strong and beautiful, even in the middle of all this mess."
Hoosier chuckled, a wry smile playing on his lips. "Careful, Leckie. You're starting to sound like a poet or somethin'. Ain't gonna make the war any easier."
Leckie grinned, the irony not lost on him. "Maybe not, but it makes the moments a bit more bearable. You ever find someone who makes you forget, even if just for a moment?"
Hoosier shrugged, the weight of his experiences evident in his tired eyes. "War ain't the place for forgetting, Leckie. But yeah, sometimes you come across someone who makes it a little less unbearable."
As the conversation dwindled into the sounds of the night, the two Marines shared a silent understanding. In the midst of chaos, a fleeting connection with another human soul provided a momentary respite from the harsh reality of war.
Leckie sighed, his thoughts returning to the female medic. "Maybe. Just maybe."

LETTERS FROM HOME - BRAD COLBERT
The desolate desert stretched endlessly around the Marines of Bravo Company as they huddled together during a rare moment of respite. The sound of boots shuffling through the sand was interrupted by the unmistakable thud of a bundle of letters hitting the ground.
Mail dump day was always a mix of anticipation and anxiety, a brief connection to the world they had left behind.
Brad Colbert picked up the bundle, scanning through the envelopes until he found one that stood out from the rest. The familiar handwriting, a source of comfort in the chaos of war, bore the name Y/N.
His friend had been faithfully writing to him, offering a lifeline to the world outside from the harsh reality of the desert.
Ray Person, Brad's close friend and fellow Marine, eyed the letter with a teasing grin. "Oh, who's this from, Colbert? Got a secret admirer?"
Brad shot Ray a sidelong glance, clutching the letter protectively. "It's from Y/N, alright? Just a friend."
Ray's eyes widened with exaggerated interest. "Y/N, huh? Is she hot?"
Brad rolled his eyes, trying to dismiss Ray's playful prodding. "She's just a friend, Ray. She writes to keep me sane out here."
Ray, undeterred, leaned in with a mischievous grin. "So, what's she saying? Anything interesting? Does she talk about me?"
Brad sighed, reluctant but amused by Ray's persistence. "She asks about how we're holding up, when we might be coming home. Just normal stuff, you know?"
Ray burst into laughter. "She sounds cool, man. Keep those letters coming. I want to hear more about our pen pal !"
As days turned into weeks, the letters from Y/N became a lifeline for Brad. In the quiet moments between missions, he found solace in her words. Ray, on the other hand, continued to tease him relentlessly.
"Hey, Colbert, any romantic confessions in those letters?" Ray nudged him with a grin.
Brad shook his head, a small smile playing on his lips. "Just friendly stuff, Ray. It's nice to have someone who cares, that's all."
Yet, as the correspondence continued, something shifted within Brad. Y/N's letters became a source of comfort, a connection to a world beyond the harsh reality of war. In the quiet solitude of his tent, he found himself contemplating his responses, pouring his thoughts and feelings onto paper.
One day, as Brad eagerly tore open another letter from Her, he discovered something tucked inside. A small photograph slipped into his hands, transporting him to a moment frozen in time. The image captured a carefree day before deployment – they had just finished surfing, and Y/N, with her infectious smile, had jumped on Brad's back as he carried her up the sandy shore.
A nostalgic warmth spread across Brad's face as he traced the contours of the photograph. The sound of waves crashing, the feel of the sand beneath their feet – it all came flooding back. That single picture became a cherished token, a reminder of a life left behind and the person who waited for him.
Unable to resist, Brad carefully tucked the photograph into the dashboard of his Humvee. It became a silent companion on every mission, a small but powerful reminder of the world beyond the war zone.
Ray caught a glimpse of the photograph. His eyes widened with a mischievous grin as he leaned in to get a closer look.
"Well, well, Colbert," Ray teased, "who's this beauty? You've been holding out on us!"
Brad shot Ray a look that was equal parts annoyance and amusement. "It's just a picture, It's from Y/N, before I left. when we went surfing."
Ray, undeterred by Brad's dismissive tone, continued to playfully push his buttons. "Just a friend? Come on she’s Been writing to you ever since we got out here and she's hot! if you don't want her, can I have her number?"
Brad rolled his eyes. "she's not interested in you, Ray."
Ray let out a dramatic sigh. "Well, fine. No need to be so protective. But seriously, how did you end up with a friend this hot?"
Brad's stoic expression softened as he looked at the photograph. "We've been friends for a long time.."
Ray, sensing a genuine connection, decided to ease up on the teasing. "Alright, alright, no need to get all sentimental on me. Just making sure you're not hiding some supermodel pen pal from the rest of us."
As days turned into weeks, Ray noticed a subtle shift in Brad. The stoic Marine, known for his unwavering composure, the ‘Iceman’ persona seemed to carry an extra layer of motivation and purpose. Ray, perceptive despite his laid-back demeanor, began to understand the significance of Y/N's presence in Brad's life.
One evening, as they shared a quiet moment in the dim glow of the camp, Ray nudged Brad with a knowing look. "You really care about her, huh?"
Brad nodded, a rare vulnerability in his expression. "Yeah, I do."

IN THE MIDNIGHT HOUR - RON SPEIRS
In the bitter cold of Bastogne, where the biting wind seemed to cut through the thin army issued uniforms, Easy Company huddled in foxholes, seeking refuge from the relentless onslaught of winter. She sat among them, bundled up in layers of gear alongside her comrades.
One particularly freezing night found herself , Don Malarkey, Christenson, and Perconte squeezed into a foxhole, desperately trying to stave off the bone-chilling cold.
Huddled close for warmth, they spoke in hushed voices about their experiences and, inevitably, about Lieutenant Ronald Speirs.
The stories surrounding him were like whispers in the frigid air – mysterious and ominous. The tale of him allegedly shooting his one of his own men for being drunk on duty sent shivers down the spines of the soldiers of Easy.
"Don't know why anyone would willingly chat with him," Perconte murmured, eyeing Speirs from a distance.
"He's got that look, you know? The one that makes you question if you'll make it through the night," Christenson added, his breath forming frosty clouds in the air.
However, She couldn't help but be intrigued. As the conversation continued, she found herself defending Speirs, "Maybe he's not as bad as the rumours make him out to be. There's something about him that's... different."
Her words were met with incredulous stares from the three men around her , but she held her ground. Little did they know, She had sensed a depth to Speirs that went beyond the hardened exterior. It was this curiosity that would set in motion a night that would challenge perceptions.
Suddenly the infamous Lieutenant appeared as if out of thin air, scaring the life out of Perconte, who almost choked on his tooth brush. All four looked up at the man gawking in silence.
Speirs, surprisingly, broke the silence. "Need a smoke?"
The others watched in frozen fear as Speirs leant down , but She met his gaze and flashed a daring smile. "Sure thing, Lieutenant."
He offered cigarettes to the frozen soldiers, and she was the only one brave enough to accept. As she lit the cigarette, she couldn't help but notice the slight quirk of Speirs' lips, an almost imperceptible acknowledgment.
Unbeknownst to her , Speir's had been watching her from his spot for a while, with an intensity that bordered on the edge of obsession. The slow setting of the sun provided a dim backdrop, casting a soft glow on her features as she engaged in conversation with the men around her. There was a magnetic quality to her presence, an enigmatic allure that drew his attention like a moth to a flame
That night, she found herself sharing a foxhole with Lieutenant Speirs.
She nestled against him, seeking warmth in the small space, he spoke in a low, measured tone,.
"You know, I didn't shoot that man in my platoon."
She turned her gaze up to meet his, her expression unwavering. "I never thought you did" she replied, pausing for a moment before continuing with a smirk on her face. "But maybe don't tell Perconte that; it's nice to see him panic every time he sees you."
A rare chuckle escaped Speirs, the sound cutting through the freezing night. "You enjoy watching him squirm, don't you?"
She grinned, her eyes dancing with mischief. "Just a bit. Keeps things interesting around here."
With the cold momentarily forgotten in the warmth they shared. Their eyes locked, the unspoken understanding between them deepening. The tension between them reached a palpable peak, and for a moment, it seemed as if the frigid air might witness an exchange far warmer.
Just as their faces drew dangerously close, the almost-kiss was shattered by the unexpected appearance of Eugene "Doc" Roe. His silhouette appeared against the backdrop of the moonlit night, and his voice cut through the charged atmosphere.
"Just checking if you have any scissors or morphine?" Roe's inquiry pierced the air, his presence jarring against the intimate backdrop.
They pulled away, the near-kiss replaced by a shared glance of surprise. Roe, seemingly oblivious to the moment he had interrupted, stood there with an innocent expression, before sliding down into the foxhole with them.
Speirs raised an eyebrow, a hint of amusement in his eyes.
"Scissors or morphine, Doc? Is that all you ever think about?" She asked she reluctantly pulled herself away from her human radiator and fished through her pack for the last of her medical gear, handing it to Roe quickly so she could return to Speir's side.
Roe chuckled, seemingly unfazed. "Thank you - In this place, it's all anyone thinks about. You never know when you might need one or the other."
As Roe pocketed the medical supplies and zipped away to the next foxhole to ask the same question, she couldn't help but smirk at the comedic timing of the interruption.
Speirs, too, shook his head with a small, rueful smile. The fleeting at the moment of intimacy that had been disrupted.
After the near-kiss and the disruption by Roe, she decided it was time to try and get some rest, Speirs watched her curl up, pulling the shared blanket up to her chin.
He couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction, a silent triumph that offering her that cigarette, would lead to something even he deemed impossible.

The heart of War - Richard Winters
In the midst of the war-torn world, where Easy Company fought valiantly against the shadows of conflict, a new face emerged.
Sergeant Y/N L/N, a skilled and elusive sniper, joined the ranks of Easy Company.
Her deadly precision in the field contrasted with the serenity she carried off-duty, catching the attention of Lieutenant Richard Winters, the revered leader of the 2nd platoon within Easy Company.
On the day Y/N arrived, Sobel approached Winters with a begrudging look on his face. "Lieutenant Winters, I'd like you to meet the newest addition to Easy Company, Sergeant L/N."
Winters nodded, a polite smile on his face. "Welcome to Easy Company, Sergeant "
Sobel, unable to resist a jab, added, "I trust you'll find it an… interesting experience."
Undeterred, She met Sobel's gaze with determination. "Thank you, Captain. I'm here to contribute in any way I can."
Sobel grunted, offering a curt nod before walking away.
The two exchanged a knowing glance, a silent acknowledgment of the challenges they would face together.
As the days passed, the atmosphere in the camp settled into a blend of wariness and routine. However, it wasn't long before Lewis Nixon, Winters' ever-playful friend and intelligence officer, seized the opportunity to inject a bit of humour into the situation.
One afternoon, as the company gathered in the mess hall, Nixon approached her with a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Sergeant, a word if I may?" he said, gesturing towards a quieter corner.
She arched an eyebrow but followed him, her curiosity piqued. "What's on your mind, Nixon?"
Nixon leaned in, his tone conspiratorial. "You see, I've noticed a certain someone's attention lingering in your direction."
She smirked, casting a glance in Winters' direction. "Oh, and who might that be, Nixon?"
Nixon chuckled. "Our esteemed Lieutenant Winters, of course. The man is as predictable as a Swiss watch, but we could have some fun with it."
Intrigued, She played along. "Fun, you say?"
Nixon nodded, "How about we give him a little nudge? You know, some harmless flirting to see how he reacts."
"Flirting with me, Nixon? Won't that be too obvious?"
Nixon winked, "Trust me, subtlety is my middle name. Plus, it'll be entertaining to watch Winters squirm a bit."
As they rejoined the group, She couldn't help but notice Winters watching them with a raised eyebrow. She casually leaned against a table, engaging Nixon in a conversation that bordered on playful banter.
"So, Nixon, any good stories from the intelligence front?" Y/N asked, batting her eyelashes with exaggerated innocence.
Nixon played along, feigning deep thought. "Ah, the usual espionage and intrigue. But you know, Y/N, intelligence isn't the only thing I find intriguing around here."
Winters, sensing the shift in tone, glanced over with a furrowed brow. Y/N shot him a playful smile, maintaining the charade.
"Oh, really?" She replied, a hint of amusement in her voice. "Do tell, Nixon."
Nixon continued with a smirk, "Yes, you see, there's this Lieutenant—tall, serious, a bit too focused on the mission. I think he could use a distraction, someone to add a little excitement to his life."
She glanced at Winters, who was now looking decidedly uncomfortable. She leaned in closer to Nixon, her playful demeanor unabated. "And who might this unlucky officer be?"
Nixon nodded discreetly towards Winters. "I see you've already met Lieutenant Winters, the man who could use a bit more excitement in his life."
She turned towards Winters, a knowing twinkle in her eye. "Well, Lieutenant, I've been told you could use a distraction. What do you say?"
Winters, caught off guard by the unexpected turn of events, blushed slightly but managed a wry smile. "I think I can handle the excitement, Sergeant."
Nixon chuckled, satisfied with the playful banter he had initiated. She shot Winters a wink before excusing herself, leaving the lieutenant with a bemused expression.
Weeks later, after enduring the hardships of battle, Nixon surprised Winters with two tickets to Paris. "I was going to take you, but I think you need these more than me, my friend," Nixon said with a sly grin.
Caught off guard, Winters hesitated. "Nixon, we can't just—"
Nixon interrupted, "You both deserve a respite from this madness. Trust me on this one."
The next day, She and Winters found themselves strolling through the streets of Paris. The Eiffel Tower loomed in the distance, casting a subtle glow over the city. The conversation flowed easily, punctuated by laughter and the distant hum of city life.
She smiled, "You know, Winters, it's strange to find such peace in the middle of all this chaos."
Winters nodded, "Paris has a way of offering solace, even in the darkest times."
As they continued their walk along the Seine, Her gaze lingered on Winters. "You're not like other officers, sir. You have a way of making people feel… human."
Winters chuckled softly, "Call me Dick when we're not on the battlefield, Y/N. And And your skill with that sniper rifle is truly admirable, almost a better shot than Shiftey"
She grinned, "I'm just doing my part, sir… Dick. and no one is as good of a shot as Shiftey"
A shared smile turned into a lingering gaze, and in that silent moment, Winters leaned in, capturing her lips in a tender kiss beneath the Parisian lights.
In that embrace, time seemed to stand still. The war felt distant, and for a while, Paris became a sanctuary where they revealed in the simple joy of being together. The two discovered a connection that went beyond the battlefield, and in each other's company, they found solace and genuine joy.
But as the days passed, the reality of their duties beckoned them back to the front lines. With a heavy heart, they bid farewell to Paris, carrying the memories of their interlude with them.
Back in the real world, they faced the challenges ahead with renewed strength, their shared experiences in Paris serving as a beacon of hope in the darkest of times. When they returned, Lewis Nixon couldn't resist teasing Winters about the newfound warmth in his usually composed demeanour.
"Paris does wonders, huh, Dick?" Nixon smirked, earning a glare from Winters.
"We can't afford to lose focus, Nixon," Winters replied, but the subtle smile on his face betrayed the lingering glow of their Parisian interlude. " and yes - it did work wonders you sly son of a Bitch"
The two men laughed and walked back towards their barracks.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On VE Day, at the Eagle's Nest, as celebrations echoed through the air, Winters with her by his side. The memories of Paris lingered, and in the midst of victory, he couldn't contain the emotions that had grown between them.
"Y/N," Winters began, his voice sincere, "back in Paris, I discovered something extraordinary. It's more than the camaraderie of war; it's an undeniable connection that surpasses the chaos surrounding us. I love you and I can't imagine facing the future without you"
In the glow of victory and love, her eyes sparkled with both joy and understanding.
And so, as Easy Company triumphed on VE Day, Winters pulled her into a warm embrace, glad to have found something pure in the midst of something so evil.
As they quietly wandered around the eagles nest hand in hand, Winters couldn't help but inquire about the playful banter orchestrated by Nixon back in the camp. "And the flirting with Nixon… was that all to get my attention?"
She grinned, her eyes filled with mischief and affection. "You didn't need Nixon's help for that, sir. You already had mine."
In that moment, amid the echoes of victory and the bonds forged in the crucible of war, Winters and Y/N shared a private and passionate kiss, sealing their fate for many happy years to come.

CHAPTER SIX - IT'S MORE DANGEROUS AT NIGHT
It was now night time, Eugene and Evangeline were lent against a cement pillar watching a young marine who looked about 19, counting. Evangeline then called over to him." What you doin' Daniels?" He looked over petrified, traumatised.
"Counting Japs " He timidly states then turned back around to continue what he was doing.
Evangeline and Eugene both exchanged worried glances and she began to pick her nails. Gunner Henny then went over to the poor boy and tried to order him to help 2nd platoon load up but Heldaine stopped him. "Gunner, go find someone else, maybe Jenkins over the other side ?" Henny nodded and moved away. "He can come with me, help me count the bandages and get himself some shut eye?" Evangeline offered looking over. Heldaine nodded slightly and crept forward taking the gun from Daniels. She got up and wrapped her arm around the boy. "Let's get you some sleep ?" She quietly spoke once she had managed to get him up. " But there are so many to count" he spoke like a small child as she led him to the sickbay. " I know sweetheart I know" Evangeline choked out, her heart breaking for him, the poor soul.
By the time 08:00 came around everyone was moving out again, the cook was walking around with a pot handing out pork chops. They weren't the best but after having to eat tinned shit for the last few weeks Evangeline was happy to eat something solid and not out of date. She ended up walking next to Eugene whist Shelton Parked himself next to him on the other side. "Saw you reading last night" he said looking over at Eugene slyly, " writing too" "My bible?" Eugene replied glancing at Shelton wearily. " we ain't suppose to write shit down, give the japs valuable intale if they find it" Shelton carried on. "I guess I won't show it to them then" Eugene replied keeping his eyes forward and waking with the rest of the group. Shelton smirked satisfied with his answer.
Evangeline's smile faded remembering the similar conversation she and Oswald had the night prior.
"You got a smoke?" Shelton asked. Eugene pulled out two cigarettes, one for himself and one for Shelton. "Thanks Sledgehammer" Shelton grinned popping the cigarette in his mouth. " Sledgehammer?" Evangeline questioned grinning at the new nickname Shelton had given her friend. "I like it" She looked at Shelton and Eugene new deemed 'sledgehammer' and gave him a half smile. " you got it Raggedy Anne" Shelton winked making her laugh " throwing your self around like a rag doll out there" . " Jesus Christ" Bill spoke up in amusement as he scurried up behind us along with Burgin. " don't worry Bill Layden , we'll call you bull-peen-hammer" Shelton called back. " A little hammer for a little man" Evangeline chuckled making the guys laugh. " Alright rags .... snafu" Bill shot back," shit n ass .... fuck up". "Is that the best nickname you could come up with?" Evangeline laughed. "Oh! A little joke from the little man!" Shelton, now deemed 'snafu' , joked back.
K company all followed Heldaine like lost puppies up the rocks, he said to them that they would be setting a perimeter for the Japanese soldiers. Evangeline had zoned out of the conversation he was having with Bill and Eugene, when the Japs has caught sight of us and began to fire. "Pull back! Let's go!" Hillbilly shouted dragging her by her bag pack (much to Evangeline's dismay) back down the slope to cover. By that point both Heldaine and Hillbilly , hell, the whole company were all desperate to get a hold of coms, every attempt made was unsuccessful.
K company was stuck, sat in a small rocky trench trying to say as low as they could do theJaps wouldn't try to blow their heads off. " I'm gonna have to go back , get more men up here and the orders changed" Heldaine finally announced. " Hillbilly if I don't come back the company's yours" He tapped Hillbilly on the shoulder and quickly ran off. " He's gonna come back right?" Eugene asked " Disobey and you get a court-martial" Shelton mumbled leaning back on a rock with another cigarette in his teeth. Whilst they were waiting the marine who was in charge of handing out the post was wandering around. " Sledge, Yoet, you two have something" he said handing the both of them their letters. " Thanks" Evangeline stated bluntly noticing her mothers hand writing and putting in it her Brest pocket to read later.
__________________ It was now pitch black, Flares lit up the foxholes as k company were now sitting in darkness waiting for Heldaine to to come back. Henny was making the rounds telling everyone to make sure they had enough ammo and supplies for the night. Gunner Henny was about 45 years old and had fought in world war 1. He was part of the old breed, liked to do things the old way and stick to them. " Did you hear the bullshit about the dog?" He grumbled leaning into our foxhole. " They think a dog can smell a Jap before I see one!" He scoffed. " I have a dog back home" Eugene started quietly " his name is Deacon"
Evangeline glanced over at him and smiled as Henny ignored his input and contained; " if the Japs come through , high point with fixed bayonets and you nail em with H.E you got that?" He explained it like we were children,
The guys nodded as he got up to walk away but then he bent back down and said " woof" and then walking away as normal. " what the fuck was that?" Shelton asked as the group all looked at each other slightly confused try to hold their laughter in as it was noise discipline. "Hey stove top boys - WOOF" Bill repeated mimicking Henny making them laugh even harder, causing Shelton to wheeze. _____________ Evangeline was sat next to Shelton as he slept once again, picking her thumbs, waiting for japs to make a move or a marine to hurt himself. "Remind me again why on gods earth you joined ?" Eugene asked again. She turned to look at him with her eyebrow raised, " like I told you before, I want to help people, I was in need of a better paying job and to make my country proud" she replied. " And to find out how my brother died" "Making your ma and pa proud?" He asked, looking over his shoulder at her. "Hopefully" Evangeline smiled slightly " That reminds me I have to reply to that letter that they sent me once I've read it" she mused tapping her breast pocket. "Read it" Eugene stated, " I wanna hear it ... if that ok?" He asked scooting closer to her. " sure" she replied getting the letter out of her pocket. " Dear Evangeline," She began " your father and i are so happy to hear that you are doing alright where ever you are. Everyone in town is very worried about you but myself and your father know you'll be smart and safe. We hope-" Evangeline's reading was cut short by a small whimper that echoed through the foxholes. herself and Eugene carefully peaked put of the foxhole we were in as the cries got louder and louder. "What's that?" Shelton getting up , still half asleep. "Sounds like some guy having a nightmare" Eugene answered, watching Evangeline fold away her letter. "He'd better shut up before every jap on the island knows where we are" Shelton snapped now wide awake. "Quiet that man down!" Hillbilly whisper-yelled as the marines whimpers turned into wails. Suddenly the man started screaming, wrestling any marine who tried to hold him down. "Yoet!" Hillbilly called over " get some morphine in him!" Evangeline quickly grabbed her morphine needles and rushed over as more and more marines fought to hold the man down. "NO-NO-NO!" The poor man was yelling hysterically. "Give me his arm now!" She spoke as he flailed about. Once she had finally got hold of his arm and she was inches away from injecting him when he broke free, punching her straight on the nose. Evangeline groaned in pain reeling back as blood now poured from her face. The marines were struggling again to regain control of the man. The poor man was now begging for help as Henny began to punch him n a attempt to knock him out and shut him up. " Henny! Stop! Let me get to his goddamn arm!" She shouted in desperation trying to reach him once again. "Hit him with something!" Jay began to shout. Out of the corner of her eye, Evangeline saw another young marine reach for the shovel he used to dig his foxhole with. "No! Don't!" She tried to stop him but it was to late. The shovel hit the Boys head with a crack and he was finally silenced - lifeless. "God damn it" she breathed sitting back on the muddy ground and closing her eyes. "Everyone back in their holes" Hillbilly spoke eyeing Evangeline and her bloodied face. It was clear the poor bastard had broken her nose. " It had to be done Yoet, it had to " Hillbilly handed her a handkerchief. She thanked him and held it up to her face to try and stop the bleeding and slunk back to the fox hole. ———————————————————————————-
The next morning a blanket had been pulled over the young mans body. "Rather him than all of us" Eugene spoke his eyes flickering between the body and Evangeline. "Sledgehammers right" Shelton answered " It had to be done". The rest of the dead and wounded got piled onto trucks and tanks to be taken back to base to either be shipped to Australia to heal or sent back home to their families for their funerals.
Evangeline then walked over to Eugene. " You know, I think I'll take that cigarette now" She spoke breathing out sharply. "Here" Eugene stated putting a lit cigarette between her teeth and taking the bloodied hankie form her hands. She took a quick puff as he delectably wiped more dried blood from her face, making her wince slightly. "I'm no corpsman Rags, but you've got a messed up nose" he grimaced now fiddling with the grubby handkerchief. " Wow Sledgehammer, you really know how to talk to a lady!" Evangeline joked taking another puff of the cigarette.
"Na she ain't no Lady, A Lady wouldn't come to a place like this" Bill teased, walking past the two of them, puffing on a tiny stump of a cigarette butt before throwing it at Shelton's feet.
" Thank you" Evangeline mumbled taking the handkerchief back and tossing it to the ground, slightly laughing at Bills remark.
" Can it snafu" She quickly snapped, the group all walked on as Shelton began to snigger.
THE CORPSWOMAN
CHAPTER FIVE - CROSSING THE AIRFIELD
" You have first watch" Shelton pointed at Eugene, " wake me up in four hours, anything moves ... kill it" he said laying down in the dirty fox hole. Evangeline shook her head, opening her sketch book again and continuing the drawing she had left earlier.
" You know you shouldn't have a notebook with you right?" Oswald spoke up handing her some spare medical supplies he had managed to loot off of a jap medic. "Would mean a court-martial if it fell into the wrong hands " " I'll make sure it doesn't then Oswald" Evangeline grumbled taking the supplies from his hand. " Say, you didn't find any water on your travels?" she asked as he sat down next to Eugene. " Afraid not" he replied. —————-
"Shut the Fuck up you idiot" Shelton's dig at Oswald woke Evangeline from her nap it was now pitch black along the airfield, the odd mortar explosion or mine blowing up lighting up the area every now and then. "We have to go out there tomorrow" Eugene said with uncertainty looking out onto the airfield. She thought about what Eugene had said, knowing that for some of these men it would be the last night they ever saw.
—————-
The next morning was as dry and sweaty as yesterday. Evangeline's throat was extremely dry and she was almost gaging at the thought of water. Sitting up she looked over at Eugene as he wrote something in his bible that he kept in his front pocket. It seemed that he had been keeping track of the number of men that had been lost in the company so far. She was ripped out of her daydream by an explosion further up the airfield that woke Shelton from his slumber, jolting up like a mad man.
"2nd platoon get up there!" A voice shouted behind them. Thick black smoke rose up from the airfield once again whist American fighter planes buzzed overhead. The gunfire was still ringing out from the day and night before.
Shelton got up sleepily and lit his first cigarette of the day, he glanced over at Eugene, who had his bible in his hands, eyeing what he was writing.
" what are you doin'?!" He grumbled. Eugene tiredly looked over at him. " Pack this shit down and get ready to move!" He ordered. " I'd kill for some water right now" Evangeline whispered as she packed the rest of her stuff away. As if by magic, Jay ran over to them, " Water!, I swear to god someone found some water!" He cried to all the marines that were sat in their fox holes. "Thank god " Evangeline heard some of the men begin to mumble as Bill lead them to the water.
" Oh my god " She mumbled in relief as all the marines who ran over handed two of the men their helmets and water tins to fill up for them. Suddenly one of the men reached in to fill a helmet when he pulled out a decaying yams head by the horn. "It's poisoned " Evangeline breathed in disbelief, feeling like she could cry.
" They fucking poisoned it" Bill spat as everyone tipped away what could have been the sweet relief of water onto the dry ground.
Before anyone could sulk back to their foxholes, Heldaine (ack- ack) and Hillbilly came over and started to explain the order the companies would be running across the field In. Evangeline swallowed hard, knowing that at 09;00, her morning would turn hectic and most of the men standing around her would be dead or being treated by herself and the other corpsmen.
She was sat with Eugene, Shelton, Bill and Oswald, once again sorting her gear out for easy access once they were to travel across the airfield, the boys were talking amongst themselves. " We have to cross that?" Oswald questioned for the third time whilst he was loading the ammo nervously in his bag for the mortar gun. "Quit whining, it'll be over by the time you cross it" Bill shot back with a cigarette between his teeth. "Japs hate mortars ad bazookas as much as they hate riflemen, Layden" Shelton breathed putting another cigarette in his mouth glancing back at Bill and Oswald.
"How many Japs do you think are out there?" Eugene finally spoke up. Shelton stayed quiet and looked forward ignoring his question as he puffed on his cigarette. "Anybody got any ass-wipe?" Jay asked crouching don next to them. " No ass-wipe, No chow, No water, Don't even think about it" Shelton not taking his eyes of the airfield in front of Him. Evangeline's throat was to dry to argue that Jay could use his hand but then Oswald spoke up: "I've got a little water" He took his water bottle from his belt and handed it to her. She took it from him taking a sip and then handing it to Eugene. "Thank you" she smiled slightly before going back to her medic bag. "Get off your asses and get onto that gear, we are moving shortly" Gunner Henny spoke walking past them.
Planes buzzed over head whist they waited to move out, Shelton handed Eugene his cigarette and he surprisingly took a quick drag before handing it back to him. Evangeline's heart felt like it was in her mouth as Heldaine gave the order to move out.
Everyone crept forward taking their assigned spots. Moving with third platoon and sticking with Shelton and Eugene she looked around her looking at the scared faces of the marines who were all fearing for their lives. Evangeline was still listening for corpsman called as the japs opened rapid fire.
"Do not stop," Heldaine shouted as everyone all started to run across the airfield. Dirt was flying everywhere as we dodged shells, explosives and bullets from the Japanese soldiers. "Corpsman!" Someone yelled. Evangeline turned still running to see a man coiled on the floor with a chunk of his leg missing, luckily she wasn't needed as two other corpsmen dragged him into a foxhole and patched him up. Bullets wizzed past her body and the tinkers of debris and stones pinged against her helmet.
"Come on Yoet move!" Hillbilly screamed as she began to fall to the back of the platoon. Evangeline's legs were burning and her chest felt tight. The small group took cover behind a wall for a few seconds before moving away again and sliding into a foxhole. She watched helplessly as more and more men were being shot or blown up. "You can't save them all Evangeline" Eugene spoke over the shouts and gun fire, she blinked tears away thinking about her brother Joe, what If he had been in a similar situation before he disappeared, he might have even been shot down or taken as prisoner. Her attention was now on Leckie and Runner of H company, she was relived that they had managed to regroup. They were now running up the airfield. Leckie looked over and caught her eye but was caught short as an explosion cause them to take cover behind a fallen truck. " Get up k company! Go go go!" Hillbilly shouted, both Evangeline and Eugene swiftly moved out of the hole followed by the rest of the mortar squad. She was now lumbered with carrying the stand for the mortar seeing as they couldn't stop to help or remove any of the dead so they had to grab the equipment and tags and move on as quickly as possible. With the stand strapped across her back Evangeline pushed forward, gritting her teeth as she willed her legs to move faster, cringing as shells blew up near them taking out unlucky marines.
The screams of injured men were everywhere. "Keep it moving corpman" Jay yelled as she attended to a young marine who's leg had been blow off . "Get off my ass De'leau, worry about your own men!" Evangeline answered back pulling the poor boy into a nearby fox hole for cover. "Someone's coming to get you out of here darlin' just hang tight" she spoke as she injected the boy with morphine and rushed out of the hole to catch up with the group. The group was now huddled behind a fallen tree. Evangeline chewed her dry lips and looked out onto the field as bullets now began to imbed themselves into the tree they were crouched behind. The marines were now helping each other up and dragging the injured to cover trying to find help, Evangeline's heart dropped as she saw runner get hit. "Runner!" She yelled trying to get to him but she was held back by Eugene and Shelton, the pulled her back to cover as leckie made it to him and pulled him behind a fallen truck.
" shit" Evangeline breathed going back to cover causing the two boys ( Eugene and Shelton) to look at her in confusion. She then glanced over at Heldaine who was desperately trying to get hold of airbase two to help them out but to no avail. " we have to get out of here!" Hillbilly Called our to Heldaine. " let's move then!" He yelled back leading the way running out from the little cover they had.
Everything was being fired at them continuously, bombs blowing up near them, bullets scuffing Evangeline's helmet. They were almost at the clearing when a shell exploded in-front if Her, Eugene and Shelton. Through the ringing in her ears , Evangeline heard Shelton cry out, he had been thrown to the ground and had his breath knocked out of him. She and Eugene stopped, span around and made a B-line for their friend. Evangeline got to him first as Oswald was yelling at them to get back, She quickly checked him over and yanked him up,
" Stop being a drama queen you're fine!" He was still dazed and She tried to get him to move forward luckily Eugene wasn't far behind her and grabbed his other arm. Evangeline was taking most of Shelton's Weight, so Eugene had to pick up the equipment Shelton had dropped, they were now sprinting back to the rest of our company, Shelton quickly bent down and grabbed his helmet from the floor as they weaved between mortars and body parts. Oswald had stopped meters from the foxhole the company was huddled in, turning round to face us. "Keep moving Oswald!" Evangeline screamed at him but it was to late, a bullet tore through his head killing him instantly. "No!" She yelled speeding up and literally dragging Shelton and Eugene behind her to get to his body. Eugene and Evangeline both threw Shelton into the foxhole and then dragged Oswald's body in after. Eugene quickly got the equipment off his back and handed some of it to a less dazed Shelton. Evangeline ripped off Oswald's dog tags and shoved them in her pocket, they had no time to grieve as the boys had to set up the mortar gun and Evangeline was helping a few injured marines who had crawled into the fox hole after them. The boys began to fire at the airfield building hopefully taking out as many japs as the possibly could. An hour later the airfield was silent. "K company!" Heldaine started," move out !". They left the foxhole in a hurry to scope the area. Evangeline took one last look at Oswald's body. His slightly tanned skin was now grey and his bright green eyes were as black as night. The fighting had now stopped, it was clear that we had taken the airfield but at what cost?.
Evangeline was down at the makeshift sickbay trying to patch up some more of the injured who had managed to drag themselves away from the fight, being the only corpsman in k company at the moment her hand were full. Thankfully Gunner Henny was helping her keep them hydrated. This was going to be a long afternoon.

Could you write an imagine about Ray Person from gen kill?? Maybe the reader and Ray could be kind of like a parter in crime duo, if you know what I mean? Seriously the Ray content lack is crazy so do what you heart desires on this😭💓
Two's a crowd:
*Y/n - your name L/N - Last name*
The hum of the Humvee's engine echoed through the vast desert as You , Ray , and the rest of hit-man two, rolled towards the war zone.
Dust billowed behind the convoy and the air inside the vehicle was thick with tension, but as always, Ray was determined to break it.
Ray Person, behind the wheel, wore a devil-may-care grin that mirrored your own. You and Ray had formed an unlikely partnership, a dynamic duo that thrived on chaos, much to the annoyance of your team leader, Brad Colbert, who was squeezed uncomfortably with is weapon in the passenger seat.
As the humvee bounced over uneven ground, Ray turned to you with a mischievous glint in his eye. "You know, (Y/N), we're practically the same person. It's like we were separated at birth or some shit."
You chuckled, exchanging a knowing glance. "Yeah, just a couple of troublemakers with a penchant for mayhem."
Brad, sitting next to Ray, rolled his eyes. "Can you two focus for once? We're heading into enemy territory, and I'd rather not become target practice because you two can't keep your shit together."
Ray snorted, his hands expertly navigating the wheel. "Come on, Brad, lighten up. We're the best damn team you've got."
The humvee continued its journey into the heart of darkness, and Ray couldn't help but start one of his signature rants. "You know, the Marine Corps is so fucked up. We're out here risking our asses, and for what? So some brass can sit comfortably back at base and drink their coffee."
You nodded in agreement, enjoying the familiar cadence of Ray's complaints. "Tell me about it. It's like they've never heard of a thing called common sense."
As Ray continued his rant, he suddenly went silent, a look of horror crossing his face. "Fuck, I left my dip back at camp!"
You exchanged a glance with Brad, who was growing increasingly frustrated with the distraction. Ray's stress levels rose as he frantically searched his pockets, cursing under his breath.
"Well, isn't that tragic, Ray? How will you survive without it?" you replied sarcastically.
Ray shot you a mock glare. "Survival in the desert is about more than just water, L/N . It's about having a good fuckin' dip to chew on."
"Ray the first time you had ' good fuckin' dip - you threw up all over me and Brads beloved humvee" You geered.
"Shut up- "
Brad sighed in exasperation. "Can we please focus on the mission? "
With the Humvee bouncing along, you reached into your pocket and pulled out a spare tin of tobacco dip, waving it in the direction of Ray's face.
"Lucky for you, I come prepared for all your dramatic crises."
" Life saver " Ray mouthed, taking the tin from your hand.
"watch the road" You mumbled, eyeing Brad who looked like he was about to rip Ray a new one.
You were both silent for a while until Y/n began to hum a familiar tune, Ray quickly joining in.
"mamma - don't let your babies grow up to be cow boys-"
"Hey - no Goddamn country music!"

GENERATION KILL MASTERLIST
CHAPTER FOUR - PELELIU LANDING AND THE AIRFIELD.
"Good luck marines!" Ack Ack ( Heldaine ) shouted as countless marines all piled into the landing ship tanks. The smaller boats each company were standing in were, inside a bigger loading boat that would take us closer to the island of Peleliu. "Yoet!" Heldaine shouted as K company were squashing into their landing boat. " stay low, stay close, you'll be needed as soon as we land" Evangeline nodded and sandwiched herself between Shelton and Eugene. Once the boats had set off a lot of the men started to get sea sick or throw up from nerves.
" you smoke?" Shelton asked Eugene. "No" Eugene spoke dryly, looking very nervous . " What about you little Marine?" Shelton jeered, turning to Evangeline holding a cigarette out to her. She shook her head and kept quiet as she focused on not throwing up. Shelton then turned back to face the front of the small boat, he suddenly had a green tinge to him.
Oh no.
He span back round and threw up all over Evangeline's shoes . He then looked up at her in amusement as he placed the cigarette he was smoking back in his mouth.
Evangeline swallowed the vomit in her throat and glanced over at Eugene who looked at her feet in disgust. Still chuckling Shelton puffed on his cigarette blowing smoke in her face. She groaned at the smelly bile as it seeped into her shoes but she had to suck it up, knowing that she'd be dealing with a lot worse than vomit here.
"Here we go boys!" Someone yelled as the loading boats tore through the ocean waves. Thick black smoke erupted form the island and a layer of bodies had already started to build up on shore. Evangeline looked around at the rest of King company as the nervous tinge in her stomach got bigger and bigger the more the boats closed in on the island. Then the shells started to be fired at them from the shore, landing next to the U boats.
Everyone ducked down trying to avoid the shell and getting a face full of cold salty water. "Stay the fuck down!" Hillbilly shouted everyone ducking again when another shell hit the other side of the u boat. Eugene started to silently pray next to Evangeline , which caused even more nerves to shoot through her body, as more shells dropped, more freezing cold water was dumped over them.
"Fuckfuckfuck" Evangeline muttered tapping her leg a little as the boats got closer and closer to the shore. The gunmen were then given the order to open fire at the jap soldiers on the island, once the front of the boat had somewhat reached the shore the marines were all ordered to get out and move up the beach. Everyone began to fling themselves over the edges, one guy infront Evangeline and Eugene got up and was immediately shot dead. He fell back landing on Eugene, the poor boy looked terrified. K company were eventually thrown from the boat and unluckily fell directly onto a sea of dead bodies. Evangeline swallowed hard as everyone around her was either getting shot, trying to crawl up the beach or getting blown up.
" Corpsman!" She was being called by a marine who had landed on a shell, his left leg had been completely blown off and he was loosing blood quickly. Her heart was beating 100 miles an hour as she desperately tried to crawl up the beach, leaving Eugene to crawl up the beach himself.
Evangeline finally made it to him and took off his belt using it as a makeshift tourniquet to help stop the bleeding. She sulphured what was left of his leg, tagged him and moved up with the company knowing that the corpsman behind her would take care of him now. Evangeline continued to crawl up the beach, now covered in wet sand and blood, the men around her were still dropping like flys. Eugene?, Bill?, Shelton? Were they all ok? She then heard another call for a Corpsman. This man had been shot through the shoulder, thankfully there was an exit wound. The same routine, sulphur, bandage, tag, move on.
Heldaine came up behind her as she had just finished wrapping another marines wound. " Yoet! Get up with king company, move!" He yelled now running past her. " Yes sir!" Evangeline yelled back, looking forward knowing that she would have to take a chance. With the sun and sand in her eyes, she sprinted forward to where Heldaine and a few king company men were crouched behind a tree with the dog company leader. " Where the hell is love Company?" Heldaine shouted over the gun fire. " up the other end, north side!" The dog company leader yelled back. " Fuck!" Was Heldaines response " they've sent us to the wrong end!" He grumbled in frustration. " your gonna have to regroup-" dog company's leader began only to be shot in the head before he could finish, his blood and brains splattering over Evangeline's face. She cried out in shock before snapping out of it and quickly reaching for his dog tags. Heldaine turned his head and called back to her , " Yoet you okay ?" " yes sir!"
The airfield:
"I need a mortar here now!" Hillbilly called from the outskirts of a small clearing that looked out onto the peleliu airfield. "Move it forward!" Heldaine ordered " Yoet stay with em!" Evangeline rushed forward with the mortar boys ( including Eugene and Shelton ). " Jap tanks!" Shelton as Eugene rushed to put the mortar into the gun. "HANGING!" He yelled ducking and covering his ears. "FIRE" Shelton shouted, the shells were shot, aiming for the tank but took out a few jap soldiers close by. Evangeline licked her dry lips nervously, her eyes widening slightly as she spotted the tank turned its gun aiming at them.
Thankfully Shelton saw it too, " AW SHIT" He breathed, " we gotta move now!" " Fall back !" Burgin yelled. Evangeline helped the boys quickly take the gun down but had to shove the hot gun into Shelton's covered arms once she heard another scream for "corpsman!". She zoomed off towards the call to find Robert leckie shouting whilst putting pressure on his friends (Hoosier) wound. "Yoet, thank god" he breathed looking up quickly as Hoosier groaned in pain. "Move your hands further up his leg, apply reassure there!" Evangeline instructed quickly tapping the top of hoosiers leg, leckie quickly following her order.
" Hoosier stay awake for me hey?" Evangeline said quickly sulphuring his wound. As she began to wrap it a massive explosion distracted her causing both herself and lecky to duck quickly. Evangeline saw the tank that was aiming at the boys explode. " Thank you Jesus" She mumbled carrying on with hoosiers wound. " Copsman we got it from here" a voice spoke behind her. She looked back to find Bates bending down to help Hoosier. " Yoet!" He stated smiling slightly but then realised what was at stake. " Good to see you Bates" Evangeline replied as the two other medics with him took Hoosier away to the aid station near by.
" He'll live Robert- we have to keep moving, go catch up with H" she stated getting up, quickly shaking leckie's hand and nodding before running towards K company.
=========================================================
Evangeline, Eugene and Shelton were sat in one of the fox holes waiting for orders. She could smell blood, oil and dirt everywhere and she knew that she was covered in it all. " Are you hit?" Eugene asked her eyeing the jacket she wore and her face. "No, it's not mine" She replied quietly trying to rub the dried blood off of her face.
Eugene began to take off his shoe, before She could question it, Shelton scowled at him. " what the hell you doin'?" "My feet are wet" Eugene argued eyeing him questionably. " The japs bust through the fuckin' lines and your gonna run at em' bare foot?" Shelton growled " put your damn shoe back on". He span round eyeing the line, Eugene glanced at Evangeline, who raised her eyebrows in response as if to say 'he has a point'.
Shelton suddenly sat back down and lit a cigarette and popped it in his mouth taking a few puffs, watching Eugene put his soggy shoe back on his foot.
King company were now sat quietly as they all nervously waited and watched J company defend the line. Heldaine came over to check on all of them. " you got enough ammo?" He asked crouching down. "Sure thing skipper" Shelton replied Eugene just nodded. Heldaine glanced at Evangeline, her hands and sleeves covered in blood and muck. " you alright Yoet?" "Yes sir" She replied, looking down at her hands .
"The perimeter is 30 metres from your hole - the password is LILIPUSIA- try to have someone awake at all times" Heldaine glanced at all of them before speeding off to the other fox holes of king company.
" Lilliputia?" Shelton repeated looking back at Evangeline and Eugene in amusement. "Hard for the Japs to say ?" Eugene questioned glancing behind him to see what was going on at the line behind him. " Goddamn hard for me to say" she chuckled making Eugene smile slightly as he struggled to open his tin of food. Evangeline took off her pack and did a double check of her medical supplies, happy with the packs, she took out her journal and began to quickly draw the scene of the airfield line in front of her.
As Evangeline was drawing she heard Shelton say " I'll trade you" to Eugene, handing his now open food can, Eugene nodded thanks. "Shit, I forgot about that guy" Shelton suddenly stated getting up and rushing back towards a dead solider who was laying on the ground, few meters behind their fox hole. "Wait what?" Evangeline questioned Turning around and closing her pencil inside her book. Eugene got up to go and see what Shelton was on about, She followed him quickly leaving Oswald in the foxhole on his own. Shelton began to cut out the gold teeth out of the japs mouth with his hunters knife "We're rich boys!" He spoke in a low tone holding the tooth up in front of him to inspect it in the sunlight. " japs got a whole load of gold in their teeth, gold is what- 30 bucks an ounce" he continued to mumble to himself. 'Fuckin' hell" Evangeline grimaced as we all scrambled back to the foxhole.
