Just eight days later, Barlow performed with Take That at the Olympics closing ceremony.

“That’s such a depressing song, it was on and off the album,” he admits. “It comes with a government health warning. But most people have at some point got to pick themselves up – you’ve got to turn up for work and get on with it. I can be stood here, loaded with stuff, but I don’t want to tell anyone, and by you all ignoring it, you are actually helping me right now.”

Q: We’ve recently seen you cry on TV as a judge on Got To Dance.

Howard Donald: ... because the dance of that young man, he dedicated it to his sick father, it brought me emotions, it moved me. I’m a very emotional person.

Q: But the performances of children are particularly touching?

HD: I have two daughters, one is 14 and the other is 8 years old. When you have kids of your own, it changes the way you see life.

Q: Why are you on the German edition of Got To Dance but you weren’t on the English one?

HD: The English edition asked me first, but I couldn’t make it fit with my other commitments. I’m very happy about being a member of the German jury. The quality offered is incredibly high.

Q: Is it true that you have an apartment in Münster where you spent a large part of the year?

HD: Yes, I travel to Münster at least every 14 days to spend a couple of days there, where I visit my daughter Lola. Tomorrow morning I’m driving there again. (Note: he gets really excited). Lola lives there with her mother Marie-Christine. She’s a wonderful girl, a great student.

Q: Does Lola go to a private school?

HD: No. The education of public schools in Germany is well above the English. In England I would send her to a private school.

Q: What it’s like for her, and her classmates, to have a father who is a world star?

HD: That’s nothing special after so many years. I can move quite normally around Münster.

Q: You’re really excited about Germany...

HD: Yes. The country has high quality. Not only the school system. German cars are world class.

Q: Do you drive any?

HD: Many. Mercedes, Porsche, Audi.

Q: Which one are you driving tomorrow to Münster?

HD: Audi Q 7.

Q: You spent time between London and Ibiza DJing in big discos. Why isn’t there an album with your remixes?

HD: Because I don’t have time for it. I know I should produce more tracks of my own. But, like I said, I have a daughter in Münster, and another one in London. Also, I have my girlfriend in London. I like swimming and I spend a lot of time doing yoga.

Q: How would you define the music you play?

HD: A special version of electro house with emphasis in electro.

Q: Now, besides your many own activities, I also have to ask about Take That. What is the band doing? Are you still together? Have you split? Are you in contact?

HD: The band is taking a break this year. We meet but not so often, but we are in contact with each other. Gary (Barlow) is a judge on X-Factor, Mark (Owen) is currently in Berlin and working on his own stuff. The current state is that  we will record a new album in Spring/Summer 2014. And in 2015 will follow a tour.

Q: Since you are "The Dancer", do you study the choreographies with the others?

HD:  Rehearsing, yes, with Jason (Orange). But they don't come all from me.

Q: Is it easy, for the big Robbie Williams, who’s more like a “dancing bear”, to get the movements right?

HD (laughs): In the last tour, he wanted to learn them. He was very eager to do everything right.

Q: May I tell you this, since we’re finishing, that I think that the previous tour, "The Circus", from the staging to the emotion, it was better than the one with Robbie?

HD: Thanks for the compliment. Me too.
