Alara tried to keep her eyes from rolling as he went on about passion, romance and love, but even she didnât have that much control. A smirk appeared on her face, âyears? Sounds like way too much commitment for me,â she continued walking along the rows of plants. Nodding along with his remarks, âIâll be sure to remind my husband,â she commented again, making sure he knew exactly who he was trying to flirt with. Its not like Dawson and her didnât have an agreement with each other. They were free to pursue extracurricular activities, but this guy seemed a little too young for her. âSounds like you know exactly how to make a girl happy,â she mused, âhope you find her out here somewhere.â Funny that a young guy was trying to hit on her, but she took it in stride.
âŠÂ
there was a huff of laughter when she mentioned the commitment, and he clicked his tongue against the back of his teeth. âiâd think commitment was no issue, for someone whoâs married,â he retorted, falling into step behind her but keeping a safe distance as to not come off too pushy. dom was merely flirting- she could walk out of the door at any moment and he wouldnât follow her out. he knew when to take no for an answer. âoh, i do,â and while he never usually divulged this information to everyone he was trying to woo, it seemed to dominic that she was trying to scare him off with the mention of her husband, but he wasnât so easily swayed. âand i make her very happy. doesnât mean i canât make others happy, too, does it?â

âIs that you way of saying you missed me?â She said softly, laughing a bit before bringing her drink to her lips. It was nice to see a friendly familiar face upon her return, all of it adding to making her return that much smoother. âThe experience was amazing â clothes even better than that. I was staying near this local bakery and baguettes were always the first item sold out, still it was nice having different things to choose from.â She strayed away from saying anything negative about the experience, wanting to keep those memories in the back of head while she focused on the good.
âŠÂ
was that his way of saying that he missed her? well. it wasnât like he was going to readily admit as much, had resigned to letting her go and never getting the chance to voice how heâd felt where skyler was concerned. she was supposed to be in paris, that was supposed to have been her be all, end all. and so he left her first question unanswered. âwell, you couldâve gotten that same experience here living next to one of the many bakeries we have. just wanted to be special, huh?â he teased. âdid you at least bring me back a keychain, or a shirt? something that says âmy friend went to paris and all she got me was this shitty teeâ?â

When Alma had first arrived in the states, the thought of settling down and finally getting the dues of hard work had been one of her primary motivations. Sheâd been living for some form of survival for a long time, every sense strung out because the moment one boundary was crossed another had been tossed up.Â
He had a small point, though. There was a reason sheâd venture out on her own. After a while, playing the good wife got old. Alma wasnât built for battles of who made the best chip dip in the neighborhood or tailoring costumes for the entire cou-de-sac for community theatre.Â
âWhenâs the last time you did? I donât have a reason to trust your judgement yet.â
âŠÂ
when she answered his question with one of his own, a satisfied sort of smile spread on his lips and dom directed his body towards her with his body leaning into the bar. âwhy the hesitation to answer?â he wondered, giving the woman a quick once over now that he had more of a full view of her with his new position against the bar. âbut.. to answer your question,â dom indulged, âi feel alive every day. i indulge my wildest fantasies, i do whatever it is that i want. i live my life to the fullest, as they say. and now iâm here to inspire you to do the same, i suppose. call it fate.â

A L M Aâ:
âIâm not in my twenties, so if Iâm drinking, Iâm looking to savor it,â Alma said, cherry plucked from her empty glass and taken into her mouth where it burned her tongue with the alcohol that swelled from within it. âIf youâre gonna get me anything to drink, Iâll take it with cherries.â
She turned to face him, a small tilt of her head that swayed a dangling curl from where her hair was tried back. Alma had begun to note familiar faces that lingered in the bars she went to, wondering just how many people had begun to fall into a lull or routine and think they were striking adventure, but she wasnât sure about him. It was possible that they were far from the same circles, though she wondered what invited him to cross over.Â
âŠÂ
dom scoffed at the response heâd gotten, though his eyes followed the cherry to her lips without any attempt to be discreet about it. just because he disapproved of her taste, didnât mean that she wasnât attractive. âcherries i can do, but turning down shots?â he shook his head, leaning in slightly to continue with his voice lowering, like he was divulging a secret just for her to hear, âjust because youâre getting older, doesnât mean you have to stop having fun.â
with a wave of his hand to call over the bartender once heâd finally met her eye, dominic glanced over at the woman next to him yet again. âcâmon, when was the last time you felt more than a little buzz?â he wondered, with a quirk of his brow to follow. âwhen was the last time you felt alive?â
A L A R Aâ:
Alara grabbed at the door, letting herself into Flourish for the third time this week. She stress bought plants whenever she had to deal with PJ and started to fill the home her husband and her shared with his son with plants to distract herself from being a step mother. There was the small chance that there would be something new at the small boutique that had popped up since leaving Ithaca. Brows raised as she heard the quiet voice bring her mind back to the present, âI always preferred peonies,â she muttered softly, her fingertips running against the soft petals of the orchid he had pointed out. A smirk came to her lips, âmy husband knows better than to do that,â she turned her head towards him, âand what do they mean?â She was curious to see what drivel would fall out of his mouth.
âŠÂ
she could surely already tell that he was flirting, and her body language hadnât suggested that she wanted him to leave, nor did she back away when he approached. all of these were good signs- great signs, even, and the mention of a husband didnât deter him in the slightest. âmm, peonies only last about a week, maybe two if youâre really attentive. but orchids? they can last for years with the right care.â and being a photographer and artist, heâd come to learn these meanings to convey messages through his art.. but it sure helped with successfully woo-ing people with his knowledge. âred orchids symbolize meaningful love, romance, and..â from the edge of the petal, his finger went to stroke down the middle of it as he continued after a slight pause, âa fiery form of passion.â
D I A Hâ:
Sheâd never admit it, but Diah was grateful for Domâs company that night. She didnât have to admit it, because she was sure he was already thinking it, the permanent glint in his eyes and smirk on his lips a dead giveaway of the pedestal he put himself on, both in his mind and hers. Normally, sheâd be quick to knock him down a peg, or at least attempt to, but no amount of quick quips or sharp retorts ever seemed to shake that damned look off of his face. It was as infuriating as it was endearing, but she rarely, if ever, let him in on her feelings about the latter.Â
Her mind had been a jumbled mess since Bediahâs residence in town had been revealed to her, and with the work week thatâd followed since that infamous lake party, the night out at Daddyâs was exactly what she needed. The two shots set atop the counter were slid into her waiting hands, a nod of thanks sent towards the bartender before she journeyed back into the crowd, swallowed whole by the sea of bodies surrounding them. Despite the amount of people there that nightâany nightâDom was located amongst them easily, her body falling in line with his, moving to the music blaring overhead.Â
One of the two glasses was passed wordlessly to his empty hand, hardly any attention paid to the liquid that sloshed over the edge and onto her skin. âWe should make a toast.â This was not their first drink of the night, evident in the slightly slurred edge of Diahâs words, nor was it their first toast. âToâŚâ Theyâd already toasted to him, to her, to everyone in Daddyâs that nightâhell, even Daddy himself, whoever he may be, and her brain had begun to run low on creativityâŚallowing for the person she was doing this to avoid the thought of to slip right in. Her eyes met Domâs with startling clarity, glass half raised in the space between them. âTo Bediah fucking Boregard.â
@domsomsriââ
âŠÂ
in the midst of the bodies surrounding them, dom really couldnât be blamed for not taking notice of diahâs absence when she went to go get them drinks. the music could be felt even more than it was heard, calling attention to the bodies moving to it- he could only imagine the view from the upper level down to the floor, a capture of the scene surely mirroring star clusters; densely packed stars held together by gravity, each with their own light. and though astronomers couldn't find evidence of black holes in the middle of any star cluster in the known universe, they hadn't been to ithaca. hadn't seen dominic somsri and diah boregard, middle of the crowd, gravity so strong that nothing could escape. that was how he saw it, at least, wanted to capture the image himselfâ but how could he do that, without being apart of it? that was the only bad thing about his choice of poison, that most of the time he could only be behind the camera and never apart of the art.
his selfish nature, dominic coudnât even pretend to be delighted at diah mention of her brother, thinking only of how hard heâd worked the past years to keep the two from running into one another. did they think of him at all, seeing each other without it being planned by himself to witness the two boregards meet? maybe if he was any less than four, five drinks in and more than that many shots, heâd have filtered his response.
âbediah? fuckââ he threw the shot back, first, fist closed around the glass, âyou werenât supposed to meet without me.â itâd been an elaborate ruse, all of the favors cashed in over time and his planning to get the two to meet at just the right moment, and for him to not even get to witness the coincidental meeting? it just wasnât fair. he knew it was possible, even dominic couldnât work miracles to prevent any possibility of the two running into each other around town.. but heâd prevented it for so long, that heâd grown quite the assumption that he could.
S A G Eâ:
Sage laughed, crashing easily into Dominicâs side. âI forgot, youâre too good for regular tools. Something gilded then, thatâs what youâd use to chop me up, fertilizer-style.â Dark eyes cast over at him, and her brow canted. âBe honest, have you ever actually used garden tools? I feel like youâre not the type, Iâm getting zero salt of the earth vibes.â
âŠÂ
âsalt of the earth vibes?â while dom had absolutely no idea what that meant, he was offended that she thought he gave no impression of it. âi can give salt earth vibes. iâve woken up in the botanical gardens before, you know. i donât remember how i got there, sure, but like.. it happened.â
H E N L E Yâ:
As Dom moved back to get in line, Henley slid closer to the counter as well, leaning back against its high edge while shaking his head. âI was just startled,â he insisted, both shoulders and tone easing into something far more relaxed. âItâs not everyday that a stranger accosts you over a bagel.â Okay, so that was a little dramatic and maybe the claim that he had trust issues wasnât wrong at all. Skittish to his core, Henley had the nasty habit of assessing every possible option before ever voicing his opinion â even when it became a detriment. âDo you only eat blueberry bagels?â he asked in disbelief, brows jumping. âRaisin ones taste just as sweet.â
âŠÂ
dom couldnât even argue against accosting him, because.. well, it was a pretty accurate description. he pretty much harassed the guy for his bagel, but did he feel bad enough to apologize? no, not really. did he feel bad at all, actually? nope. henley had declared him the winner of this bagel battle, and he was certain that in the future, heâd also win the war. âdo you only eat blueberry bagels?â dom repeated the question back, âraisins just suck. the best bagels are blueberry, everything, and cinnamon crunch. you know, the ones where they put the crumbly brown sugar topping on it? itâs always out if you come after, like, six thirty in the morning though.â

location: flourish plant shop
while dominic was usually only into blondes, there were very few exceptions and those included the woman he just saw walk into the flourish plant shop. he usually only encountered her at the one mile gallery, having never seen her before the recent weeks.. but he couldnât help his feeling of intrigue when he saw her. when he entered the shop, he wandered until finding himself next to her, fingertip running along the edge of a red orchidâs petal that was sitting before them on the table. âeveryone always gives roses to their loved ones,â he began, glancing over at her with a slight upturn of his lips, âbut.. orchidâs live longer, and show that you didnât just stop by the grocery store to grab a bouquet.â with a pause, he continued, âdo you know what red orchids mean?â

âwell, if it isnât my favorite sister in law,â dom greeted jia at the sight of her in ithaca commons, straw entering his mouth a moment later to take a sip of the iced coffee heâd just gotten from one of the cafes around. it wasnât really common of him to see jia around, but anytime he did, he enjoyed teasing her. she was like a background character, an npc in a game. he never knew what she would do, or say, or if sheâd do or say anything at all, really. âyou been in hiding lately, or what?â

âyou know, you look like you could use a shot,â dom struck up conversation after sliding into the seat next to the woman at the bar, taking whatever in he could to be able to place his next drink order on his tab. it was busy for a weekday night, but since it was summer.. it wasnât exactly out of place for a college town whoâd just finished classes to have their local bar and grill filled to the brim. no one he cared to see, though, and he wondered why he didnât just go to argos to see willa like heâd planned to. stopping at loco wasnât exactly on his itinerary for the night, but.. maybe she could make it worth it. âwanna take one with me?â

location: somewhere in the woods
âonly we can prevent forest fires, you know,â dominic playfully warned him in a mocking of smokey the bear, passing along the blunt heâd just lit up for the pair to share, âso donât drop that shit. i also donât wanna have to go to nihal to get more, âcause this is my last one.â he had to speak a bit louder than usual, the sound of the waterfall around the corner loud enough to drown out any normal speaking tones. sure, they couldâve smoked anywhere else, but where else to indulge in greenery than around other greenery?
B E D I A Hâ:
âYou donât trust her, and so she shouldnât trust you,â He said with a nod, chin tilted into his chest as leaned against the shelves. His hands returned to his pockets as if to count the inventory of every little thought Dominic had shared with him in order for Bediah to create the full picture. âRentâs easier when itâs split, Dom. You could change that, but it would be harder to hide and to get your way if you helped her there. Thereâs not much blame in trying to pinch a few pennies.â
Though, he wouldnât exactly suggest cohabitation. Bediah had witnessed the mess of it first hand, though that hadnât exactly been his intention when he lived with Skyler. Things had just happened, and they ended just as quickly when it was time to define it. He couldnât fight Dom on not wanting to take that step with the way things were now. He just wouldnât accept her living situation as the trigger for his wandering.Â
âIt might just be easier if you didnât put a label on it, man. Thatâs all Iâm saying. You donât need to make a clean break if thereâs not much to break at all.â
âŠÂ
dom scoffed yet again, finding it increasingly harder to take any of what bediah said seriously. as if willa would accept his help in that way; even after the time theyâd been dating, no matter what grandiose thing heâd offer, from something as small as getting her her own place to a trip to lake como, willa was content doing it all on her own. her independence was something that dom loved about her, though.. she didnât want his money, she just wanted him. it was why he loved her. it wasnât surface level, it was deeper than anything heâd ever experienced in the past. but how did he explain that to someone who didnât seem to understand?
âyou know iâm rich, right? but, like, willa.. she doesnât care about that. she doesnât want my money, she doesnât care. and iâve told her i can get her a place, but she wants to âearn her way by herselfâ or whatever. anyway, rhys is a fucking dick and i donât trust him- but i trust her. iâm not letting willa go, no matter what happens.â
it mightâve been after the third swig from the bottle that dom wondered aloud, âwhat do you want us to break up for, anyway? got a crush on her or something?â

O T T Oâ:
Otto grinned, but the expression was all teethâ something between a snarl and a laugh, all serrated. Dominic had a mean glint in his eye and he had half a mind to catch whatever cruelties he cared to release sear his tongue before they even left the other manâs mouth: he could taste harsh words on the back of his teeth, theyâd revel in it. âHavenât tried you out, Somsri. Guess Iâm not that desperate yet.â He canted a brow, âBet youâd like that though, when you get all hot and bothered and work out a new insult for me.â Otto lifted a shoulder, âInvite Willa over when you actually consider doing something about itâ I could knock out two birds with one stone. Yâknow, thereâs always room on the summer roster.â
âŠÂ
ânot for lack of trying, eh?â dom was quick to retort, clicking his tongue against his teeth with a shake of his head. there was no one quite like otto, to match his callous nature with something just as wicked. no one else would dare to speak to dom the way that he did, and he found it equal parts engaging and infuriating. âyou know, if youâre really that desperate for it, i could let you watch. fuck her with you in the corner, just watching. getting hot and bothered,â he used ottoâs words against him, âiâll even think about it, genuinely, if you wanna beg for it.â

location: hoffman building
dom had a job to do that day, entering the hoffman building with the dayâs plans pulled up in a document on his phone screen. he didnât bother to greet the receptionist despite her calling out his name, instead scrolling through his phone as he passed her up and went the familiar route to noraâs office to discuss the dayâs activities. it was a job he got because of his familial ties with vin, nepotism at itâs finest; not like dominic would complain, he loved a good manipulation of the system. âhey, baby mama,â dom didnât enter her office unannounced, cheeky grin on his face before he paused, retracting his greeting after a few moments. âoh, my bad, thatâs the other hoffman. i always forget which one is which. anyways, iâm here for the shoot today.. figured iâd come a bit early so we could discuss âthe visionâ or whatever.â
