Character Biography (TW: death, cons?)
Alara was the third of four children in an immigrant family as their youngest daughter. Growing up in Ithaca, the Baydar's didn't look anything like the rest of the town and they stuck out among them, especially since there was six of them. As she grew up in Ithaca, she was a handful and mischief seemed to follow her around. Everybody looked at her as if she was innocent because of her big eyes and charming smile, but she liked to cause hell. She would sneak out of the house, skip class, and if she tried to, she could get away with murder. Still she managed to get into a good college away from home and even though it was going to hurt her to leave her family, she needed to experience everything outside of Ithaca.
While away she realized the expense of college and living on her own was too much and hated the idea of not having enough money. She figured out how to support her lifestyle doing the least amount of work as she possibly could. It was easy to con people out of their money with her doe eyes and charm and she realized she was really good at it. It helped her keep the lifestyle she was used to without help from her family.Â
She graduated with her art degree and came back to Ithaca, because she did miss her family. Although not long after coming back her oldest brother, Zahir was tragically killed after a skiing accident left him with a brain injury. He left behind his three younger siblings, his wife and son. After his death, Alara felt lost and was inconsolable, especially since she spent the last four years away from home. Everything in Ithaca reminded her of him, so she decided to leave her hometown, and her family, for good.
She went to New York to get her master's in Art Conservation, but she encountered the same problem as before: a high maintenance lifestyle without the income for it and she was back to conning people. This time, she had met a wealthy man and realized that she wouldn't have to continue conning if she could pull this off. Marry a man and take his money. Using a fake name, she was able to marry the man and slowly, took money out and put it in her own savings account. When she was finally satisfied, she divorced him and left for Vegas: a town full of con artists.
In Vegas, she spent her time taking advantage of tourists and more importantly, bachelors who would want no more than denying how far they went on their last night before they were bound to one person for life. However, a trip to the bar where she planned to use her notorious smile and winks to her advantage took a different turn, and snagging a wallet and a few free drinks from a lonely patron went a little farther. She met Pope Dawson and opportunity presented itself for more than just a quick job. He was in Vegas for a firefighter seminar, but she got him to stay for a few more days. A few dates later and learning just how to get what she wanted from him, but also enjoying the company she had after the fact, she had actually enjoyed sharing it with him. Tying her tricks with the perfect bow, his trip to Vegas ended with a glass ring on her finger that was soon replaced with something better the moment they moved into their new home. While Alara is still scheming, she enjoys some predictability at the end of her long day whether it be someone to hang up her jacket at 5 AM when she stumbles in or a bed that's not cold on both sides.
Now she's back in Ithaca, she hopes she doesn't have to explain to her family exactly what she's been doing these past ten years, or the fact that she's been married, divorced and married again.
