Dominic Arslan comes from an old line of money. He is the youngest son of Margaret-Jean Demir & Ibrahim Arslan, a powerful and respected couple in town.
Growing up, he could only be described as a good boy. Always got good grades, well behaved, did really well in sports, listened to his parents and was kind to everyone no matter where they came from.
He was really close with his older brother Ibrahim Jr, who unlike him was more reserved and kept to himself a lot. He is less close but very protective of his little sister, Elodie.
A lot of Dominic’s personality changed when his older brother committed suicide. The family was shocked. Nobody knew that the older Arslan boy was struggling….at least nobody wanted to accept that. The family certainly didn’t. And they didn’t want to talk about it. If you walk into the Arslan mansion, the chances of finding a picture of Ibrahim Jr were slim. The family went as far as paying people off to say that it had been an accidental death.
Dominic was only 11 at the time and he didn’t understand why his brother did what he did. Until he discovered his brother’s journal, in which he talked about all the pressure and feeling lost.
It made Dominic realize just how unhappy he was pretending to be this perfect boy. In a form of rebellion, he pushed his family away. He couldn’t forgive them for driving his brother to end his own life. He considered leaving once he was old enough, but where was he going to go? His father wasn’t going to let him just leave. So he went back to playing his role.
College was his one chance to get away before joining the family business and that’s exactly what he did. He attended Stanford University, where he ran into a family friend –Grace. They dated on and off in college, trying to keep their relationship from their families. However by junior year they were found out about and things took a more serious turn. Within a year of the family finding out, they were engaged and married.
Marrying young wasn’t something that he planned, but everything worked out that way. Their families had a big influence and since they loved each other neither saw the harm. After all, they were on the same page on how they saw their lives going. Work first, family later. And that’s exactly how it was.
At first it was perfect. The dream marriage and everyone’s envy. No one saw the gap growing between the couple. They promised to have dinner together every night, but that was pushed to once a week and later on whenever they could. His job consisted of a lot of traveling and hers was equally demanding. It made sense that it wouldn’t always work out. But before they knew it, years had passed and they felt more like strangers sharing a home than anything else.
Dominic and Grace loved children and it only made sense for them to bring a little one into the world. So in an attempt to save their marriage, that’s what they did. The pregnancy went well, he tried to travel less and she took time off from work. But once Adrien was born and Grace went back to work, both went back to their old ways. They were both dumb to think that a baby was going to save their marriage.
He tried to make it work though, for Adrien’s sake. Until the night he found out about his wife’s affair. He was hurt, confused, and angry. Knowing he couldn’t face her, he went to his best friend’s house for the night. He just needed a place to crash and someone to vent to. Someone that he could be himself with. He never planned to sleep with her, but betweens drinks and all, one thing led to another. Dominic Arslan was a lot of things, but never a cheater. But that night changed a lot, including the way he felt about his best friend. How did he not see it all along? It just made sense. Being with her felt so right.
The past six months have been crazy, to say the least. He was spending most of his nights with Ayeleen these days. Did he feel guilty for sneaking around? Of course. But everything was so complicated now. He knew he had to divorce Grace, they were both unhappy with each other, but what would that mean for the business relationship between their families if either of their dirty laundry got out? Would she let go easily? And what about his son? And Ayeleen? What would people say? Dominic didn’t want anyone to get hurt, especially Ayeleen and his kid.
Wanted plots & Headcanons
Dominic has been doing a lot of drinking these days because of the stress that he is under. He’s not really one to open up to people easily, so alcohol is his way of dealing with things.
The Arlsan’s own both commercial and residential property along the south and most work for the family company, Arslan Property Group –which headquarters is in Williamsburg.
Dominic likes to play the guitar to clear his head, but this is something that very VERY few people know about him.
While he usually gives off a playboy vibe, he’s typically a one woman kind of guy. Most of his relationships lasted years and all got pretty serious.
Loves football and can be found at the bar with a beer and hot wings on game night if he cannot make it to the live game.
