BACKGROUND.
tw: addiction, overdose, death
Itβs easy to say no one gets him, heβs said it plenty but for Dom it goes much further than style, interests, or teen angst. Heβs come to the conclusion that people donβt understand him because heβs never had a normal life. His mom passed away not long after he was born from a meth overdose, a drug she was addicted to before she got pregnant. He gave her props when he got older and understood the pull of escapism through substances because she quit doing them the moment she found out she was pregnant. When he still used to dream and hope in his childhood wonder, he used to imagine what life would have been like if she would have lived. Instead he was stuck with his sorry excuse of a father and his long string of girlfriends, including three different wives.
Growing up he ran away countless times, home was never a safe place. Food was never there, clothes were never bought, no one was ever home, and when his father did come around it seemed like all Dom did was piss him off. When the system finally did step in and put him in foster care, he ran away from there too. At that point he would have rather been alone than try to adjust to a new house, even if they just found him and brought him back every time. If he ran too much they put him in juvie, which he found he preferred to foster care. In school, it wasnβt any better. He painted his nails black, wore eyeliner, clothes never fit right because they were stolen or hand me downs, he struggled to follow lessons, and he was always getting into some kind of trouble. Between his home life and lack of social life from school, Dom developed a deep seeded anger and resentment for the world around him. This led to a lot of fights and eventual further isolation from the crowd.
He did find comfort in some things, however. Writing, singing, and playing music was his greatest outlet (along with listening to it of course). Dom found comfort in melodies and lyrics that no one else could ever seem to offer him. He was in several bands, the last one Thrift Store Lingerie even got a record deal. They were the up and coming hot band for almost two years but that fame was short lived because of the second thing Dom found comfort in. Far too early in life, he became a garbage disposal for any and all substances. Something to numb the pain inflicted by the world around him and his nightmare of a life. Opiates are what he clung to, and when he couldnβt find the pills it spiraled down to straight heroin. He tried to stop many times, especially when they went out on tour but the withdrawal only made him worse, getting into fights with people in the crowd or at bars that dared to show any kind of dislike for him or the band. Sometimes he went out of his way to start a fight with someone for simply looking at him the wrong way. The withdrawals and behavior got so bad that the tour manager eventually encouraged his drug use so he could get on stage and get through the remaining dates. Unfortunately it was all cut short when he got on stage ranting about nonsense and halfway through the set he forgot his own lyrics, mumbling and incoherent until he collapsed. When he woke up he was handcuffed to a hospital bed. Informed he was no longer in the band and was going to jail for both assault and drug possession.
That last stint in jail was probably the biggest thing that saved his life. Not only did he make some unlikely bonds, but he was somehow able to get clean from the hard drugs. The small amount of counseling he agreed to go to helped him work out a plan for his future. He decided to go to college, follow some people he knew that survived the viscious attacks on Lakewood (ones he thankfully missed for the most part due to his absence). Lucky for him he had a cousin in Riverwood that he could crash with until he could get on his feet and Westham had a music program. He still hopes to make it big someday, but first he needs to get over his past, heal, and let go of the anger thatβs been the only thing fueling him for years. Stop living like he has a death wish and maybe embracing that being a freak or an outcast isnβt always a bad thing.
HEADCANONS.
Dom is covered in tattoos, he got his first one when he was 13 years old and never stopped. His most recent tattoos were to cover up track marks from his long standing heroin vice. He got them when he got sober most recently and hopes they will be a reminder to stay that way.
Music is what he loves the most, besides Batman. For some reason that caped crusader made him feel like being alone was okay when he was younger and set him on the path of embracing the darkness which prompted his very goth punk style. Besides the fact that he looks like a living depiction of Jack Skellington.
Heβs a natural blonde, but has dyed his hair black since the seventh grade. The only people who know are those who knew him when he was younger or were in jail with him when there was no way to touch up his regrowth. Though he has had a bleach blonde phase, as everyone does (even the goth kids).
Dom is a chain smoker. Itβs a horrible habit and could mess up his vocal abilities but itβs a comfort thing that has only gotten worse since he quit doing the hard drugs. One vice at a time is what he says.
Heβs the Horror Movie Enthusiastβs cousin, but theyβre not super close. Though he did sleep on her couch for a little bit when he first moved to Riverwood and he does go visit her at Atomic semi-frequently. He wonβt admit it, but itβs nice to have a family member around who isnβt a complete asshole. Even if sheβs kind of a weirdo. Freaks are his favorite people.
At 16, he got his GED and became an emancipated minor due to his rocky home life and budding music career.
