BROKE YOUR OWN HEART
(Can't Finish What You Start)
Remus Lupin & Original Male Character
cw: graphic despictions of violence, angst, blood.
Summary
CHAPTER O4
At first it looked like a normal pub. When they got inside, Mouth and Elliot greeted the busy man behind the bar while going straight to the back, like they were co owners of the place. Remus followed close behind them as they opened the door to the basement, being inmediately attacked by the screams and chants of what sounded like a full quidditch stadium.
It was an old room with tall ceilings and concrete walls, so large it could probably fit two of Elliot's houses, if it weren't for the massive crowd of sweaty men inside.
On the way there Remus learned that they were heading to a fight club. A bloody fight club. And he thought that maybe Mouth was right about getting hurt burn.
At least it now made sense as to why Elliot never hesitated to throw a mean right hook if he found it necessary. He was certain no prissy motherfucker in Hogwarts had any chance against him. And they didn't.
They got just in time before they closed the doors, so they paid the entrance fee -five pounds each- and a bearded guy asked if any of them were fighting tonight. Mouth and Elliot had said yes. 'Oslo' seemed to know them well since they greeted eachother by name and handed both boys two ribbons to tie on their wrists. Elliot got red and Mouth blue.
The fights seemed to have started earlier than usual since they were already pulling a manic guy on top of another bloody face. They dragged the passed out person away from the man-made circle on the middle of the basement and a bald man raised the winners hand in the air, who offered the chanting crowd a crooked smile as he got handed a red plastic bag filled with money.
This was not how Remus imagined spending his summer.
He couldn't wait to see James and Sirius and tell them everything.
The same man held two empty bags -one red and one blue- in each hand and walked around as everyone streched to get their money in before two different men got in the circle and start wrestling.
Remus kept watching as the bald man handed the two bags to a couple of guys in the stairs. They started couting the contents of each bag and splitted both at the middle, waiting for the results.
"If you win you get half of the money the people against you betted, the other half goes to the winner's crowd" Elliot leaned on a concrete pillar, hands on his pockets in a relaxed way "So if fifty people are against you, you get two hundred and fifty pounds"
"Since the stablished amount is ten pounds each" Mouth added "Only rich assholes come see us getting fucked up. They get off on it or something" Elliot laughed "But last saturday of the month means double bets. That's five hundred, baby"
They watched in silence as they dragged another guy out of the floor. This time Blue won. They repeated the whole thing.
"What will happen if no one is against you?" Remus asked Elliot. Mouth snorted at the question while moving his limbs around, trying to warm up.
"That's not a problem Elliot particulary has" he answered.
"Let's just say I'm easy to hate" A knowing smile crept on his face but Remus didn't dare ask anything else.
Soon after it was Mouth's turn to go in. They wished him good luck and the fight begun. He wasn't either too tall or too short, but his beefy muscles were undeniable, so a lot of people betted on him. His opponent was on the shorter side, but was agile and looked experienced.
At first it was pretty even between the two of them, a lot of dodging and not much contact. Then Mouth got the upper hand with a strong kick right on the chest. Until he got swiped by his left knee and fell down to the floor.
"Fuck. That's his bad knee. Broke it one time and never fully healed" Elliot said, worried for his friend.
At the end nothing too serious happened to Mouth. But he did lose after a punch on the side of his head that nearly knocked him fully out, so they called it quits.
Elliot was next.
"You know the rules, gentleman! No shirts and no weapons!" The bald man exclaimed.
As Elliot started walking Remus was suddenly filled with an inmense sense of dread. What if he got seriously injured? Fuck, what if he died? He should've never let him do this shit.
"Merlin fuck, Elliot" his voice wavered, face as white as a sheet "Please be careful" the boy just turned around without stopping and grinned at him.
Fucking wanker.
He watched as Elliot slipped off his shirt and threw it to the ground while opening his way through the crowd of people, that started shamelessly booing at the sight of the familiar boy.
When Elliot finally arrived to the center of the circle he found Remus worried eyes again, but smiled and looked at him as to saying "See?"
Fucking wanker.
His opponent was a white guy with his torso and neck covered in ugly tattoos. He looked like a rabid dog, saizing up a relaxed looking Elliot with muttered growls.
Almost everyone got their hands inside the blue bag. They fucking loathed him. Remus watched the barely half filled red bag as baldie handed both of them to the crew.
The fight was up. Tattoo guy inmediately launched forward to grab Elliot but he dodged him easily, keeping his fists in front of his face. They walked around in circules, both challenging the other to approach them. Tattoo guy finally gave in and threw a fist at Elliot, who managed to move to the side and sucker punch him square in the jaw, making him back down with a groan of pain.
Elliot was lean but strong, well defined muscles danced around his body thanks to the demanding job at the factory. He could be Michelangelo's fucking David, Remus thought. Although having absolute baby-like features, his permanent poker face made up for any problem he could have from lack of intimidation. The other guy looked more like a junkie psycho chihuahua than a real competition. And that might just be more dangerous.
The younger boy leaped forward and got another hit, this time on the eye. But Tattoo guy trashed his arms around, making it impossible to predict where were they going to end up, so Elliot got hit in the nose and the crowd cheered louder as blood started to pour.
Remus could feel his heart trying to thump out of place and had to close his eyes after a couple minutes. He couldn't see this.
The crowd started booing and Remus inmediately thought the worst, and quickly opened his eyes, expecting to see the beautiful face that belonged to Elliot all fucked up on the floor, getting dragged.
But then he remebered they hated him, so they were booing because of Elliot's red ribbon swaying high in the air around his wrist. He had won. The biggest shit eating grin Remus had ever seen on his crimson lips as he admired the crowd that insulted him.
"We've got the winner, gentleman!" The bald man pushed the red bag close to Elliot's chest as the noise got louder "Hold this tight in your way out, kid" he told him.
So Elliot took off running through the crowd, grabbing Remus by the hand and making him pick up his speed as they ran up the stairs and closed the door. He couldn't risk getting the bag snatched by a pissed off asshole, so he dragged Remus out of the pub all the way back to the basketball court, where Elliot dropped his hand to rest them on his knees, trying to catch a breath. Remus did the same as they looked at eachother.
"Fuck"
"Yeah, fuck" They started laughing.
"I can't believe I just got out of a fight club" said Remus, calming down.
"I can't believe I just got out alive of that fight" retorted Elliot jokingly, indicating Remus to follow him, so they started walking home.
"The bloke was mad" Remus sizzed "I couldn't even watch after he started spinning like an helicopter and hit you in the nose" At the injuries mention, Elliot tried to wipe some of the blood that got on his mouth, but the nose had stopped bleeding "Shit, it's not broken, is it?"
"Nah, it would hurt like a bitch if it was. I'm actually pretty okay. Definitely got worse than this" Elliot said, actually surprised. "Maybe you're my lucky charm" He sent a flirty smile to Remus, who wanted to murder him for it.
"Lucky charm or not, I'm not ever going back to that place" Elliot snorted.
"Fair enough"
It was already fully dark out, the stars shining dimly -nothing like Remus sky back in Wales-. The sandy haired blonde had catched the pubs clock before leaving the place. By his suprise, it was just eight thirty, the whole day had felt so much shorter.
They arrived at the front lawn. Elliot's eyes went straight to the driveway, checking for a beated up grey car, but it was empty, as always.
"Fuck. They can't see me like this" he stopped Remus before he could get any further. Elliot pulled off his pants -again- and grabbed the hose -that they never used-, letting water pour as hard as it could without risking getting caught by the noise.
"Merlin. Can you stop getting undressed in public? You can get arrested for nudity, you know?" Elliot laughed as an old lady walked down the street, eyeing Elliot without holding back. Remus rolled his eyes at the boy for waving a hand up to the woman teasingly.
"Why? Jelous, Lupin?" Elliot said, going back to rinsing his chest and face out of any trace for blood. Without it Elliot looked mostly normal, he still had some time before the bruises develope, so he can make up an excuse tomorrow. "Good enough, right?" Remus nodded sheepishly as Elliot slipped the jeans up again, they were dirty but the dark color helped to diguise it a little.
They passed the door and saw Elliot's mom cooking something in the kitchen as they greeted everyone inside. Lupe and Eric where running around in the living room, Dominic was struggling to catch up to them, but happily. Gia was probably studying in her bedroom.
"Hey, guys! Dinner will be ready soon, okay?" She said "Why are you shirtless... and wet?" Elliot looked down to his body as if that was the first time he saw it too. Keeping the red bag of money behind his back.
"We went swimming down the lake. Must have left it there" she looked suspiciously at him but didn't say anything else, going back to the cutting board.
They both took showers -separated- and changed into some clean, sweat-free, clothes. They sat together on Elliot's bed. The window was open, letting a summer breeze refresh them even more, thanks to the thin layer of cold water still on their skin.
Remus watched, almost hipnotized, as Elliot tended to a small cut under his right eye that he was glad Marian hadn't noticed yet and as he spreaded over his face some antinflamatory cream he kept on the dresser.
After Elliot finished he grabbed the red bag and let all the money out on the bed, crumpled up in a high mountain between the two boys.
"Wanna help me count?" Elliot asked, making Remus snap out of his daze and nod quickly.
They counted in silence, scrunching their face in disgust when handling some of the bills that had specks of blood on them.
"Do you do this often?" Remus murmured, without looking up from the task, but could sense Elliot gazing up at him.
"Not anymore. Only for double bets" he shrugged.
"Why?"
"Why do I fight or why I don't do it often anymore?" Elliot snickered, raising a mocking brow to try and alivate the intimate vibe that made him a little too uncomfortable.
"The latter" Remus serious tone made contrast with his friends nochalant attitude.
"I can't afford dying, Rem" he shook his head jokingly, althought it was a sincere explanation. Remus had to stop himself from literally gulping at the nickname.
"Why did you even start fighting, then?"
Elliot sighed exasperated, as to let Remus know that this wasn't a conversation he wanted to have. What he didn't know was that the taller boy had stopped caring enough to keep walking on eggshells around him, and decided that if he wanted to get in, maybe he had to break the door down.
But Elliot didn't let him.
The sardonic grin returned to his face as he raised the neat stack of money in his hand " 'Cause of seven hundred and sixty pounds, baby"
Remus let him have this one.

Summary
CHAPTER O3
When Remus woke up the next morning, Elliot's bed was empty.
He had slept uninterrupted until 9am, so that made almost 13 hours of sleep, wich was crazy. But in his defense, he hadn't rested well enough since the full moon of a couple days ago, because of the stress about the internship and all, he barely closed an eye. So he let it slide. Besides, Elliot wasn't home, so it would be awkward to hang around the house without him there for so much time.
Remus found a little note in Elliot's dresser, written in hasty, sloppy letters. "Late night shift. Be back 10". Okay, one hour of awkwardness. That wasn't so bad, right?
He made his bed -mattress- and marched to the bathroom after finding another messy note. "Don't be lame. Take a shower". That one made him laugh. So after he did, he slipped some clothes on -not too librarian-y this time- and braced himself to get out of the room and greet the whole family.
But when he did there was only Gia sitting in the armchair at the living room. She stopped reading her big book to look at him. "Hey... Rudolf, right?"
"Uh, it's Remus, actually. Good morning"
"Oh" they stood in an uncomfortable silence for a couple minutes. Remus sat on the couch, trying to act busy. Well, as busy as you can look while assesing the chipped paint on the walls.
"Um, what are you reading?" He liked books, maybe that would be a nice conversation.
"Some History book I got assigned" she answered, tucking a long braid behind her ear with hot pink painted nails.
"Are you in summer school or something?" Remus asked, raising an impressed eyebrow. He remembered yesterday, when Elliot went into her room and told her not to study too hard. She shook her head.
"I'm trying to get a scholarship at this fancy private school. They got a kickass Math program" she said, like that was the coolest thing in the world. "I have to know about the school's history or some shit" she winced, signaling to the book on her hands "Old white people are weird. No offense"
"Non taken. Where is the rest of your family?" He asked, more to keep the conversation going than actual concern. Besides, Gia looked glad to take a break from the boring read.
"Mom took Dominic with her to the store, Elliot's probably coming back from his shift at the bar right now and Lupe and Eric sleep as long as they can in summer"
"What about your dad?" It was a cunning question to ask and Remus inmediately felt like an asshole after the young girl seemed to slightly flinch at his words.
"Um, work trip. He'll be back this afternoon, probably" she answered quickly, going back to the book on her lap.
Ten silent minutes later Elliot arrived home, wearing blue jeans and a worn down messenger bag on his shoulder.
"Oh, hey. You sleep fine?" He directed to Remus after looking at him like he had almost forgotten he was there.
"Yeah, thanks. Maybe a little too good. Just got up" he explained, making the other boy smile.
Elliot didn't seem to care much about covering his arms anymore, now sporting a loose shirt with the sleeves chopped off. Maybe because Remus already knew what hid underneath, or perhaps it was because Remus was the outsider and Elliot could kick him out anytime he wanted if he did something out of his liking. And it was fucking hot outside. Yeah, that was probably it.
"Want some breakfast?" Elliot asked, looking inside the mostly empty fridge.
"Not really, I had like- three servings last night" Remus put a hand on his stomach, as to really probe how full he was.
"As you wish. There's probably just stale cereal anyway" Remus laughed.
"So..." Elliot leaned on the kitchen counter, arms crossed.
"So"
"No internship today?" Remus shook his head.
"I start as a regular this monday. The last couple weeks I had to go was to meet some people, see how I adjusted to the way the office worked..." he explained.
"Don't wanna pay you 'til next month, huh?" Elliot said, smiling knowingly and tilting his chin up a little. Remus cackled loudly, the type you let out when you hadn't expected to laugh anytime soon.
If he was having this conversation with any of the Mauraders it would be very different. They would probably tell him how great it was to only have to go a few times a week, checking the place out and that he should take advantage of his last days of "freedom", no strings attached. It would be great if he hadn't actually been running errands for almost everyone in the office and working without pay for those "adjusting" first days.
But Elliot wasn't part of the Mauraders. He lived in Jaywick and earned his own money since he was ten, took care of his family and knew how the real world worked. More than Remus, anyway.
"Pretty much" Remus answered, still laughing softly.
"Been there"
Remus went in to say something, but the door opened and Marian came from outside, Dominic following close behind her. Elliot inmediately took some of the very few plastic bags she was holding and placed them on the kitchen counter.
"Good morning!" She said, panting slightly at the long walk. The three of them greeted her in the same way "Look!" She pointed to the baby looking around the house and still standing on the doorstep.
"He's walking!" Exclaimed Elliot after his little brother walked up steadily to him, arms streched to the boy, who took him happily in his arms.
"Left him on the store's floor for a second and went straight for the Cocoa Puff's as soon as I turned around. Hasn't stopped walking since then. Well, 'til now" she said, looking fondly at her two sons while Elliot bounced him around and contratulated him "Had to get them" she said, taking the box of chocolate marbles out of one of the bags.
"Good job, Dom! Go for the vodka next time, 'kay? I'm kidding! I'm kidding!" Elliot said when his mother slapped him playfully on the arm and sent him a stern look. Remus and Gia laughed.
"You better be" she finished the conversation and going to put the groceries away.
Elliot sat on the couch next to Remus, sighing loudly and closing his eyes while Dominic played with his long curls.
"Tired from the shift?" Remus asked, looking at his friends puppy eyes and freckled covered button nose. Merlin, he was truly beatiful.
"Six hours of sleep isn't that bad" Elliot said, turning his head to look at Remus. They stayed like that for a few seconds, like they finally had the time to study eachother.
Maybe that was true for Elliot, but Remus has been watching him from a lot of time ago. Ever since the first months of third year, when Elliot and Lucas Servin -a really gnarly Sytherin boy- got into a passionate fight in the middle of Potion's, wich ended in the entirety of the ingredients shelf destroyed on the floor. That was the first time he noticed him, with a bruise forming on top of golden skin and another bruise.
After that, no one in Hogwarts had Potion's Class for a whole week, since the professors had to replace everything. He remained a hero for the rest of the year, before everyone forgot about it.
Besides that, the rest of the Mauraders never payed him much attention aside from the rare comment Sirius made about how 'rad' he seemed to be, with his cigarrettes and permanent too-cool-for-school demeanor. Elliot was the reason Sirius took up smoking in the first place -James kinda resented him for that-. But Remus liked it that way. It felt like Elliot was his underrated little secret, only a view for him to admire.
Until that had to stop, anyway. The universe seemed to know that the little crush he had had only grown stronger by sixth year and that he intened to do nothing about it. So the universe decided to give the matter a little push. In the form of a socially clueless Sirius Black.
Remus can still remember the day the long haired boy bursted open the door of their room while holding a bored looking Elliot from his wrist, screaming "He has muggle records!". Remus nearly choked on air at the sight. Partly because he was laying down in only his boxers when it happened. Marvelous for a first impression, really.
After that, Elliot bonded with Sirius about music, leather jackets and the apparent admiration the other boy seemed to have for him (after spending more time with him neither could deny that Elliot was, indeed, the coolest out of them). But Remus and him always seemed to gravitate towards one another in a strange, nochalant way.
"I was gonna hang out with some friends later. I can tell 'em to fuck off and we can do something together" Elliot was the one to break off the silence, but his eyes still fixed on Remus golden ones, who was the one to break eye contact. As nice as going out with Elliot sounded, being a burden to the boy was the worst thing that could happen to him. Remus didn't want Elliot to change anything of the way he lived just because he was there.
"No. It's alright. I reckon I can find something to do" he answered quickly.
"You can come with me" Elliot shrugged.
Thank Merlin he didn't add "If you want" to that sentence, Remus thought.
"Are you sure? I don't want to intrude" like he wasn't intruding enough already.
"You won't. It'll be nice, you can meet my friends. You'll like 'em... I think. They're assholes but only with people they know" Remus laughed lightly and nodded at Elliot.
"Alright. Sure"
The rest of the day went by rather smoothly, Lupe and Eric woke up, they all had some lunch together and Elliot took a nap while Remus read 'A Room with a View' by his side. Soon it was time to meet the friends Elliot mentioned, so he changed into some old faded shirt and a pair of sport shorts, advising Remus to do the same, but shook him off saying that what he wearing was comfortable enough. Elliot had only looked at him up and down and said "Suit yourself".
"Ma, we're going out" he said before opening the door.
"But your father's coming today!" she answered.
"Yeah, that's why we're going out" he said, lightheartidly.
"Okay... be careful"
They said their goodbyes and stepped outside, where a thin girl leaned on what was left of the torned down fence. She smiled at them.
"Hey!" She waved as Elliot smiled back at her.
The girl was absolutely beautiful, she had glowing skin, a pair of teal colored earings dangling from her ears and an afro so big it made her almost taller than Remus.
"Hey, Mar. This 's Remus. Remus, this is Marcia" he pointed at him. The three of them started walking down the street.
"Pleasure to meet you" Remus said, shaking her hand.
"Woah, this must be the first person I shake hands with on this block" She joked, althought looking sincerly surprised, wich made Elliot snort "Where did you find such a cute, polite boy?" She directed to Elliot, who rolled his eyes at the blushing boy.
"Boarding school. You coming with us?" He inquired, not leaving a second for her to say anything else. This was her turn to roll her eyes with faken annoyance.
"Yup. Richie phoned me, said he wanted to spend as many time as he could with me before moving back to America" she kicked a pebble on the floor, grimacing slightly.
"How you doing with that?" She shrugged.
"As cracking as I can. I'll miss him but I believe trying long distance would be worse" Elliot nodded in understanding.
The three of them enganged in some small talk after Mar said she would "get depressed" if they kept talking about it. She asked Remus about school and made jokes about how annoying Elliot was. She was nice, and it was funny seeing the curly haired boy pretend to be irritated by her antics. They were clearly comfortable with eachother, and Remus learned they became good friends after Elliot and his family moved to England, since she lived right next door.
They got closer to the small basketball court where there were already a few boys running around. Elliot took off the moment they arrived and stole the faded orange ball from one of them, dodging exaggeratedly and finally throwing it inside the hoop. Show off, Remus thought.
"Yo, I just got here and I'm aready kicking y'alls ass" he said jockingly, shit eating grin on his face.
"Fuck you, man" one of them said, but he was also smiling widly. They started greeting eachother and Elliot introduced Remus to them.
Mar went to give a shy kiss to a boy with short tight curls, who Remus supposed was Richie.
"You wanna be on my team, Mar?" Elliot asked her, boucing the ball on the floor. "Ew" was all she said before going to sit down on one of the benches in the side of the court, making him snicker "Remus?"
"Oh, no. I'm absolutely terrible. I'll just sit down with Marcia" he answered "Yeah, cheers, though" he said after Mike -a boy with a very strange mustache- politely asked him if he was sure.
"Okay. More space for me to fuck y'all up, then" Elliot said, squating down to start the game.
"You wish you could fuck me, Faye" was the last thing Remus heard before sitting down next to the girl, who pulled out a nail polisher from God knows where.
"Elliot never told me he had friends from the boarding school" she told him without looking up from her hands.
"We met properly last year. My mates pretty much stalked him everyday until he agreed to hang out with us"
"That sounds like Elliot" they laughed lightly "I'm glad he met you, then. Doesn't seem so much against going back this summer. He always goes round and round about how much he hates all of that potions and charms stuff" Remus face paled.
"You- You know about-?"
"About the magic? Yeah" she said, shrugging like it was nothing "We went to some party on Christmas and got pissed, like- really pissed, and 'Lio wanted to smoke a fag but couldn't find his lighter, so he took this stick from his boot and lighted it. In front of bloody everyone!" she was laughing sterically while telling the story "He was lucky everyone was too fucked up to care. Except me, of course. I'm the only one who knows"
"That's... an extremely careless and stupid thing to do"
"Yeah, well, Elliot is extremely careless and stupid sometimes"
Like if summoned, the boy trotted up to them while breathing heavily, wet curls already stuck to his sweaty forehead.
"Jesus fuck, it's hot today" he said, more to just complain than to obtain a response. He pulled off his almost drenched shirt and throwed it to Mar's face, who grabbed it with the tip of her fingers and a disgusted grimace "Oops" Elliot faked, running away before the girl could throw a punch at him.
"Ugh, he's disgusting"
They kept talking while watching the boys play for a couple more hours until they were quite literally about to pass out from exhaustation. Mar had to get in 'Mum mode' and tell them to at least rest for a couple minutes, so they all sat near them, panting and passing a single bottle of water around. Elliot was sat on the floor next to Remus legs, resting his back on the bench. All they could hear for a couple minutes was eachothers heavy breathing, their lungs trying to get to normal.
"Who's going to The Butcher with me tonight?" Asked 'Mouth' after a while, Remus almost didn't even understanding him by the accent and tired mumbling.
That was something Remus noticed quickly, that the majority of the group had an American accent, foreign to him. Jay, Mar and himself being the only ones with a british one.
Also, what the fuck was The Butcher?
"Not me, man" said Richie, looking lovingly at Mar and grabbing her hand "I'm taking Mar to Lucille's" they all faked gagged at the smiling couple "Say whatever you want. There's a reason the ladies don't want any of you dogs" they boo'ed at his declaration and punched him in a friendly way from their places.
Lucille's was the fanciest restaurant in Jaywick's perimeters. It wasn't expensive or anything, but they actually had tablecloths and served more than one option of pasta. That had to count for something, right?
"Me either" said Mike "Rugby practice" they nodded, knowing that if he wanted to get that sports scholarship next year missing practice was off limits.
"Jay?" The boy only shook his head sheepishly "Come on guys! None? What about you, Elliot? We are the only ones who participate, anyway"
Elliot tensed. He rested his elbows on his knees, throwing a quick glance at Remus and trying to not look so obvious, but failing "I don't know, man"
"What? You afraid white boy here getting heart burn?"
Okay, they called him Mouth for a reason.
"Shut up, Mouth" he scolded him trying to ignore the way Remus seemed to get a little uncomfortable and throwed a tiny piece of concrete at his head. Even Mike seemed to sense it, and shoved his shoulder.
"It's double bets today, you can't miss that" he insisted, but Elliot still seemed unsure.
"We'll go" said Remus, before Elliot had time to refuse the proposition. They all looked at him, suprised. It was obvious Elliot wanted to go -whatever The Butcher was- but was holding back because of Remus presence. Then again, all he wanted was to not be a burden. And maybe, just maybe, because Mouth's comment had pissed him off a little.
It was getting dark already, the sun was just finishing hiding in the distance.
"You sure?" Elliot asked him. He nodded surely "Okay, then. We'll go. But I should go pick up some clothes"
"The Betting Pool starts in like- 15 minutes. We don't have time" said Mouth, checking his wrist watch.
"You know they have a no shorts rule" Elliot directed to him.
"I have a pair of extra jeans in my bag, I'll loan them to you" said Mike, unzipping the said bag and throwing the pair of pants to him.
"You sure? I'll get 'em dirty"
"Yeah, man. They're old, anyway"
So Elliot stood up and pulled down his shorts right there and slipped the dark washed jeans easily. Mike was a lot bigger than him, Rugby and all, so they fit a little too loosly around his hips and legs. Remus thought he should start getting used to his friends lack of modesty and asked himself how could he look so good in anything he wore, baggy and all.
"We should get going" said Mouth, getting up from the floor.
Elliot, Mouth and Remus greeted the other boys and started walking down the street. Until Mar called for Elliot and pulled him apart.
"You know I don't like you going to that place. And I'm sure your family doesn't fancy it any more than I do" she crossed her arms over her chest, stern but concerned look on her face.
"Mouth's going too" he protested like a little boy who got denied to a sleepover.
"Elliot, I don't give a bloody fuck what Mouth does. I worry about you"
"Look, Mar. I aprecciate it, really, but don't worry, okay? It'll be fine, I always come back safe and sound" Elliot rested his hands on her shoulders reassuringly. He looked at her with his big puppy eyes until she gave up.
"Fuck! Okay, just be careful. But I don't want to bloody see any teeth missing from your mouth tomorrow" Elliot laughed.
"I promise, you'll see this beautiful smile again" he started walking backwards to meet Remus and Mouth again, talking loudier so she could hear him "Besides, it's the other guys you should be concerned about!" He smiled cockily, making her roll her eyes and fipping him while turning around to go to her boyfriend.
"Ready?"
"Yeah"

Summary
CHAPTER TWO
The day at the internship was fine, Remus thought. They made him walk around with paper coffee cups like that was going to make him a better interviewer, but it was fine. He got handed his schedule for the rest of the summer break by the sweet old secretary- Olga. And prayed it didn't clash with Elliot's shifts.
So he got out at six thirty and killed time at a public library until seven, when he had to meet Elliot at the factory. It was a short walk, ten minutes later his eyes found the relaxed figure of Elliot, who was leaning against a dirty wall, freshly lit cigarrette hanging from his lips and smoke spiraling above his head. He hugged himself, wanting to get rid of the chilly air this hour of the day seemed to bring. People were scattering around him, collegues that were also finishing their shift and going home for the day.
"Hey" Remus greeted him when he was close enough.
"Hey. Ready?" Elliot asked. They inmediately started walking shouder to shoulder to the bus station, engaging in some small talk until they got on the bus and aching for a soft bed.
"How was the internship?" Elliot asked him after they both found their way to the seats, tighs brushing lightly against each other.
"It was fine, I guess. Juggled coffee cups around all day" Elliot snickered. "Hey! Don't laugh at me"
"I'm not. That's a perfectely worthy task to do" Remus rolled his eyes playfully and shoved him. "What was it? Some newspaper company?" He furrowed his eyebrows, trying to remember exactly what Remus said. He hummed.
"Yes. I've been thinking I would like to be a journalist, so It's perfect. My mum got it for me. Said she had some 'contacts'. I still don't know what she meant by that, she works at a bakery" Remus answered with a smile.
"So no magic related things? After Hogwarts, I mean"
"Well, I dont know, actually. I suppose I could be a Wizarding World journalist, but I'm seeing where this goes. I still got time" Elliot nodded. "What about you?"
"What about me?"
"Do you know what will you do after Hogwarts?" Elliot seemed to grow uncomfortable, shifting slightly in his seat and getting his eyes off of Remus's. He shrugged.
"Keep bending car parts at the factory, I guess. Maybe I'll get promoted to getting paid full minimum wage, who knows? Sounds good to me" he said bitterly, yet attempting to make a joke out of it. But Remus didn't laugh.
Elliot knew how fucking lame he was. He spended all day pushing buttons and lifting compressing machines to arrive home with grease stained clothes and skin in an attempt to put a little more food on the table for his family. He never did good at school, in Howgarts it was even worse. He couldn't change a teacup into a frog if his life depended on it. The only reason he kept going every year was because it meant a mouth less to feed during the year and charging an unreasonable amount of money to wizards for lit assignments was easier. That way he could still send money to his mother while being away. There was also the fact that his father's anger seemed to decrease when he wasn't in the house, so that meant less trouble for everyone too.
When he saw Remus on his front door earlier that day, he thought he could kill him right there on the spot -he was sure he could find some sketchy neighbour to get rid of the body-, making him forget that he ever saw him. It's not that he was embarassed by the way his life was, but it would be easier if he had a nicer home to go back to evey day.
And Remus was the first person in six years he was a little more than aquaintances with. He would have liked it more if everything too personal was kept as far away as possible. He spended way too much time alone at Hogwarts for this absolute dork to break all the walls he had constructed over the years. He had let his guard down, that was his fault.
Friends were useless, it wasn't like they would ever see eachother after graduating. So who cared if Remus Lupin saw how messed up his life actually was? Who cared if he saw the scars that littered his body? As long as he didn't tried to kiss them better, the boy could keep all his teeth in his mouth. Maybe he'll get freaked out and not speak a single word to him next year. Maybe that's for the best.
"I think you could do better than that" Remus looked at Elliot like he could see right through all his bullshit. He scoffed.
"Like what? Average wage? I think that's hopeful thinking, even for yo-"
"I'm serious" Remus interrupted him firmly, as if he was convinced Elliot could be the fucking king of England if he wanted to.
"Yeah, me too, Remus" he said in such a tone Remus knew the conversation was over. Still, he opened his mouth to fight, but quickly closed it when the bus came to a halt at their stop.
They thanked the driver and walked through the streets under an uncomfortable silence, just like before. There were more people outside now, though, mostly drunks, but some normal people were headed to town, since it was friday night. Remus was so tired he couldn't even think about going out.
"Listen, Remus" Elliot stopped them before opening the door to his house. He looked at Remus straight in the eyes with that same stern face he saw him using with Eric earlier. "I don't mind that you are here, really, I don't" he shook his head when Remus went to say something "No. Listen. It's all good, but if I ever tell you to go to my room and close the door, you do it. You understand, right?"
"I don't-"
"Remus. You understand, right?" He repeated a little louder.
"Yeah. Yeah. I understand"
"Good" he took the key out of his pocket and opened the door, being welcomed by warm lights and the smell of a home cooked dinner. Finally closing it behind Remus "I'm home!"
"Hi, honey! Oh! You brought a friend?" said a small woman that was steering something in a big pot. She gave Remus a big smile before heading to kiss his son's cheek.
"Uh, yeah. Ma, this is Remus. He'll crash in my room for a couple days" as fast as it appeared, her smile dropped as she looked severely at Elliot, hands on her hips. Remus believed she and Euphemia Potter would get along well.
"Elio! I told you I didn't want more drug addicts "crashing" in my house!" She whispered at him even thought Remus could hear them perfectly. He also wondered why did she have to ask him that in the first place.
"He's not a drug addict! He's from school. Christ, he's dressed like a librarian, a drug addict doesn't dress like this" Elliot responded in a normal tone, signaling to Remus's lanky figure with his hand, making the boy laugh and his mothers smile return.
"Oh, it's okay, then. Nice to meet you, Remus" they shook hands.
"A pleasure to meet you, Mrs. Faye"
"What a polite boy. I really do hope you actually aren't a drug addict"
"I'm not, ma'am"
"Good. And call me Marian" she looked at her son "Elio, go say hi to Dom, he's with Lupe and Eric in their room. He's been screaming for you all day long"
"I'll take a shower first, I'm disgusting. Don't wanna dirty him" she nodded as both boys started heading to Elliot's room "You wanna go next? I'll save you hot water"
"No, it's okay. I prefer morning showers, either way" Elliot looked at him disgusted.
"So you're a masochist" Remus laughed.
Elliot grabbed some things from the bedroom and dissapeared in the hallway, leaving the sandy haired boy alone. He looked around. There were a couple posters on the walls, The Clash and T-Rex -of course-, a lot of baby stuff laying around, some toys on top of the messy dresser and an old faded black guitar in a corner. Elliot's bed was on the right side of the room and Dom's crane was at the feet of the bed.
A couple minutes later Elliot was back from the shower, curls dripping water and wearing only a pair of underwear. Remus quickly busied his eyes with Marc Bolan's guitar while the other boy got into some comfortable clothes. Long sleeves this time.
"Let's go" When they got out of the room Dominic's little figure was waiting for them on the floor next to the couch, playing with a sock that was laying around. Elliot crouched and opened his arms the instant he saw him with a big smile "Hello, my little munckin!" He said in a sing-songy, kinda creepy voice. Dominic instantly started laughing and crawling up to him. Elliot held him close to his chest and left kisses on his pudgy cheeks while they got closer to the table that was finishing being set by Eric and Lupe.
"He'll start walking pretty soon!" said Marian, starting to fill the empty plates with some kind of casserole while everyone took their sits, Remus on Elliot's right, who had his mother in front of him. Across from Remus was Eric and Lupe was next to him. There was no one on the end of the table.
"Good. I can start oredering him to make me sandwiches" said Lupe making them laugh.
"Not on my watch" Elliot told her, althought there was a smile on his face.
"So you are a wizard too, Remus?" Marian asked him.
"Yes. I've met Elliot at Hogwarts. We are in the same house"
"I wish I could do magic" pouted Eric, stabbing a carrot with his fork. "You never do" he recriminated to his older brother.
"That's because I'm shit at it"
"How can you be even be able to do magic and suck at it?" Lupe looked at him incredulous.
"Well, magic is quite hard, actually" said Remus softly, trying to defend his friend.
"Oh, come on! Mr. Top of the Class" Elliot made light fun of him.
"You're top of the class?" The girl asked him, eyebrows raised and mocking smile, laughing sterically when Remus shrugged, embarassed. Quickly Eric followed and that made Dominic laugh, wich made the rest of them smile.
Remus looked at Elliot, as to ask him why were they laughing so hard. "Down here in Jaywick being top of the class isn't a good thing" he explained "But don't mind her. She's a bully" he said, more to Lupe than to him.
"I'm not!" Her laugh dissipated.
"Stop. Don't fight" Marian said, smile still on her face.
"Mom! You're starting to sound like Elliot" said Lupe, looking at her brother with annoyed eyes. Remus could see something snap in the boy's dark eyes.
"You know, in normal families, I should be the one starting to sound like her" he leaned into the table, careful not to squash the baby still on his lap. A challenging look on his face.
The air felt heavy around them, only the sound of forks against the plastic dishes being heard. "Don't" was the only thing Eric said, looking between his siblings.
Elliot was so, so tired. He would never admit it but having to be like a parent on top of a provider, on top of a seventeen year old on top of student was fucking exhausting. And he was annoyed, because it wasn't rare that Lupe would say things just to hurt him. He got it, she was a kid about to go through puberty and he was the one having to boss her around. Hell, he was raising her. He was awful at that age too, probably even worse. But a little gratitude wouldn't hurt nobody.
And he couldn't get why their mother wouldn't just do the job herself, it was her's, after all. He absolutely loved his family, but sometimes he just wanted to crawl up on his bed and never have to get up again. If there was something keeping him from doing just that, it was the urge to give them something he never had: the opportunity to be a kid, to not having to find ways to make a little money at ten years old.
They finished the food in silence and Elliot quickly washed the dishes before heading to his room. He prepared Remus's bed next to his and left him alone so the boy could change to his pijamas in peace. When he came back he cradled Dominic in his arms and layed in his bed with the baby fast asleep between his body and the wall.
Elliot rubbed his eyes tiredly. "You okay?" Asked Remus from his own laying position, trying to play it cool. He nodded, but Remus wasn't convinced.
"Yeah"
"I saw your tattoos, earlier. Do they have any meanings?" That was another way of saying I saw you. I saw your way of ornamenting your body other than with scars and burns. But all he could do now was attempt to get a normal conversation out of Elliot. And then again, he wanted to know everything about him. He thought that could be a good start.
Elliot looked like he was trying to make up his mind about something, debating with himself "Uh... yeah. Yeah. Fuck it" He muttered the last part and slid his shirt above his head to let Remus see his torso.
There were more scars and a couple of healing bruises. But in Remus eyes, he looked absolutely mesmerizing. Elliot had never asked him about his own scars, wich were in more visible places than his, and he always felt grateful for that. So he wouldn't ask him about his, either. Elliot was relieved.
They both sat up on their matresses.
"Uh, some of them are stupid. I got the fawn on a night out, I was high out of my mind and me and a friend saw a deer in the middle of town. We thought it was crazy, so we inmediately got to the closest tattoo parlour" Remus laughed lightly at the story. He then pointed to the flower in his bicep "This was the logo of the record shop my mom worked at back in California. She used to always bring me the ones that didn't sell" he then pointed to the spike in his neck, looking up so Remus could see it "Got this for the year I spent in juvie. McGonagall let me take the 4th year exams all at once, barely passed the year" Remus suddenly remebered that he, in fact, hadn't seen Elliot for the entirety of 4th year. Back then he thought he would never catch a glimpse of him again, but showed up next year.
"What did you get in for?" He asked, fearing he got a little too confident with his question. But Elliot shrugged disdainfully, like he thought it was unfair they locked him in.
"I dealed for a while. Offered Xanax to a stressed looking lady on the street and the bitch ratted me out"
"You dealt at forteen? No wonder she did" said Remus, laughing lightly. Elliot smiled.
"Hey, am I here to talk about my tattoes or juvie?" Remus rolled his eyes playfully and waited for Elliot to continue the tour around his skin. Pointed to the shaky heart on his other bicep "I was dumb enough to let an eleven year old Gia do this one on me with a friends brand new tattoo gun" Remus vocifered his agreement with the boy's past statement "I was an angsty thirteen year old. Leave me alone" the blonde laughed and Elliot twisted his body to show him his back "Apple is Dom's middle name. Eric chose it. Self explanatory" he lastly pointed to the one on his chest. It was a drawing of a man with his arms crossed hanging upside down by one of his ankles "This signifies a waiting phase. Reminds me to slow down and take a step back before making a decision. God knows I've taken too many bad ones already" he finished, laying back on the bed and resting his forearms under his head. "Night" he said before Remus could mutter anything.
Elliot turned off the light and gave his back to Remus, huging the sleeping baby close to his chest.
"... Good night, Elliot"
Elliot fell asleep thinking about how much he wished everything could be different. Remus fell asleep grateful for being able to mutter Elliot's name the next day.

BROKE YOUR OWN HEART

Remus Lupin & Original Male Character

Summary
CHAPTER ONE
Remus stood in front of the worned out maple door. He hesitated before knocking it, but the sketchy man that was in the other side of the street was eyeing him suspiciously, even thought he was the one being suspicous. So he brought his knuckles in front of his face and tapped them against the wood, retracting it when a splinter found it's way on his pale skin.
He waited with his suitcase tight against his chest, considered running away until a girl around ten years old opened the door with a scold of annoyance in her face. She looked fucking terrifing for such a small body.
There was the noise of a way too loud TV pouring from inside the house and Remus had to talk louder than usual in order to even hear himself "Oh, hey. Um, i'm Remus. Is Elliot here?" She stared right into his eyes before dissapearing on the right part of the house, leaving poor Remus clueless on the front door "Um"
"Lupe! Who is it?! Lupe?" Someone screamed from a room. It was Elliot's muffled voice. At least Remus was in the right house. After the girl didn't answer the curly head of Elliot popped from a door in the hallway that was directly across from him, so they saw eachother inmediately. "Oh, Remus? What the hell are you doing here?" He furrowed his dark brows and took away the red toothbrush that was hanging from his foamy mouth.
Remus stood there in an awkward manner while Elliot finished washing his mouth and leaving the bathroom. "Um, sorry for appearing here out of nowhere I was just- I- um" Remus grew even more nervous while he watched his friend approching him. What the hell was he doing here? And why the hell was he stuttering so much?
"Lupe! Turn the damn volume down!" he screamed at his sister before setting his warm eyes on the other boy. Soon after, the noise was quieter "Come on in, you must be sweating your ass off"
Remus laughed softly, because he was sweating his ass off. As they both got inside the dimly lighted house, Remus took in Elliot's face. He looked tired but relaxed at the same time, as if Remus was a neighbour asking for a cup of sugar.
The inside of the house was small and crampted. The kitchen was on his left and the living room on the right, the two rooms being separated only by the kitchen counter.
Who Remus guessed was Lupe sat on the washed out brown couch, her back facing them. "Sorry, you were saying"
While Remus talked, Elliot started going around the place, not wasting a second. Moving toys out of the carpeted floor, getting scattered papers and letters in a neat pile on the kitchen counter, picking up tiny t-shirts and pants and folding them.
"Oh, yeah- sorry. Um- I just kinda- It's nice to see you by the way" Elliot smiled at him with amusement, althought completely and utterly confused. "Um, I just need... a place to stay. For a couple days, until I find something more permanent" Elliot offered a soft grimace on his soft face, looking around the messy house. "It's completely okay if you can't. I just- I kinda got, like, an internship at this newspaper company and well, you know, my family is kinda poor and every place in London is so freaking expensive and I just- remembered I asked for your address so I could send you letters over the summer and I kinda thought 'well Elliot lives close enough to London maybe I could stay for- I'll pay of course! For food and stuff, maybe-"
"Remus, Remus. It's okay" Elliot interrupted him and Remus was glad he did, because he was sure he would never stop talking if he didn't "We can work something out. We are kinda cramped in here, I'm sure you've noticed but it's okay. I understand, as you can see, we are not rich either. I mean, I live in fucking Jaywick" Remus sighed with relief.
"That's... really great. Thank you"
"It's fine. I hope you would do the same if I ever have to go to... fucking Wales" They both laughed. "Definitely" answered Remus
"So, this is Lupe, my little sister. Say hi, Lupe" the dark skinned girl waved her hand dismissively and greeted him in the same way with a soft groan. "She's the sweetest kid on the block" he ruffled her hair and Lupe slapped his hand away "Jesus Christ, Eric! I told you not to leave Dom on the sink while you bath him!"
Elliot rushed to the kitchen where Remus followed and a baby splashed water around with his grubby little hands. Elliot took him out of the soap bubbles. "Hold him a sec will ya" he passed the baby to Remus, who held him from under his arms and kept him far away as if he was holding an atomic bomb. The little creature made it's little creature noises and looked almost exactly like Remus imagined Elliot looking as a baby: golden skin, dark curls and the biggest brown puppy eyes he had ever seen. "I kinda hate babies, but I think this is the most adorable one I've ever seen"
Elliot laughed while opening and closing cabinets until he found a towel, quickly wrapping Dom in it and taking him in his own arms. "Yeah, he tends to have that effect on people"
"Eric" Elliot changed his smiled to a stern looking face when his eyes found the little boy that had come from a room in the hallway. He had short tight curls and a comic book in his hands.
Remus had never seen Elliot like that while in Hogwarts. He did keep an intimidating scowl at all times, the kind every muggleborn had to know how to master. But for the most part he was quiet and almost always alone, stayed out of trouble unless someone went looking for it, wich was quite often. Never hesitated to beat someone up if they bothered him enough.
But this- it was almost... fatherly, and strange. Then again, they had never seen eachother outside of school, and this was definitely weird. It felt domestic "Jesus, I told you not leave Dominic on the sink. He could catch a cold or fucking drown"
"Sorry" the boy responded with a hint of annoyance as to drown out the guilty feeling he actually felt. Elliot looked at him with a raised brow and crouched down to the 8 years old level, baby still in his arms.
"Hey, look at me. I need you to promise me you won't leave him there anymore. It's dangerous, okay? Like, really fucking dangerous" The boy nodded at him sheepishly and went to sit on the couch next to his sister. "And that's Eric" he told Remus, pursing his lips.
Elliot directed the way to his room. "You'll have to sleep here with Dom and me. Hope you don't mind, but well- you don't have a choice either" he grinned at Remus, who told him there was no problem, and there wasn't. He would sleep on a shed if it meant he could go to internship without paying for a place to stay.
He placed the baby on the bed and started changing him onto his blue and green stripped pijamas "Unfortunately, I have to catch my shift in, like, half an hour. I work at the car factory till seven. You can stay here, I guess. Althought the house is really not the best place to just hang" He said to Remus apologetically. Just now he noticed that Elliot was wearing one of those dark gray one piece suits factory workers were given, the upper bit hanged loosely around his hips with a white tank top underneath, letting the tattoes on his strong arms roam free.
Remus almost laughed imagining himself next to the boy, perfectely ironed dress pants and sweater vest included. He had never felt this obscenely posh.
"I acually have to go to the office for my first day too. I finish at six thirty. That's why the urgency to find a place to stay" He left his suitcase next to the bedroom door, only keeping the brown leather bag on his shoulder
"Great. We'll take the bus thogether, then" said Elliot, returning to the kitchen.
Remus felt so helpless just following him around the place, but what else was he supposed to do? Sit down next to Lupe and risk getting his head ripped off his neck? No way.
"Can you pass me that bottle? It's right there on the dishing rack. Thanks" Elliot shaked the now milk filled baby bottle and put it in the microwave "Stop fighting over the remote! Or i'll unplug the TV!" He yelled at his siblings
"But Eric wants to watch a fucking movie about penguins!"
"It's not a movie! It's National Geographic" Eric enunciated each syllable like he tought her sister had the unability to reach his level of intelligence
"That's even worse!"
"Stop it. Eric, you watched TV all morning. It's your sister's turn" Lupe sticked her tongue out to her brother, who rolled his eyes and gave her the remote "And you, don't swear" This was Lupe's time to roll her eyes.
"You always swear" she complained.
"That's because I'm a grown up and I'll start getting bald in a couple years"
"You are seventeen!"
Remus tried to erase the smile from his face. It was endearing, watching Elliot like this, but he couldn't help but feel bad for his friend. It looked like he was holding way too many things on his plate. Fuck, his plate was about to collapse with how many weight it held.
Remus was so lost in his thoughts he didn't even realize that Elliot had already fed almost all of the warm bottle to Dominic. The baby was fighting against his own closing eyelids.
And that was a battle he couldn't win.
So Elliot took him to the bedroom and carefully layed him on the crane. Well, the homemade crane. It was actually a loose drawer on the floor filled with pillows and blankets. It looked strangely cozy, and Remus wished he was the one sleeping in it. "You all set?" He whispered to Remus, who only nodded at him.
When the boy made sure his brother was fast asleep, he crabbed his walkman from the top of the dresser and closed the door behind them, trying to make as less noise as possible. After putting the thin headphones around his neck and the little box in his back pocket he knocked the door of the room in front of them, sticking his head inside after a second. Remus could see a girl with braids that seemed a little younger than them. She sat on her book filled desk and turned around to the voice of her brother.
"Hey, I'm heading out. Dom's sleeping in my room. Can you keep an eye out for him?" He said
" 'kay, sure. Who the hell's that behind you?" She furrowed her brows.
"This is Remus. Remus, this is Gia, my other sister. He'll crash here for a couple days" Remus greeted her politely and she did the same, despite her uninterested demeanor.
"Crash here?" she repeated "Dad won't like that" she told him with a worried expression.
"Don't worry about it. It'll be fine" she nodded, still unsure. "Don't study too hard, 'kay? I can see the smoke coming from your big ass head" he joked lightly as to dissipate the heavy air that hung on the pastel room. Before Elliot could close the door she called out for him, seemingly remembering something.
"Oh! Can I have some cash for tonight? Dani and the others want to go to the movies" she said, her most charming smile on her face. Elliot hummed and searched in his pockets for some wrinkled spares.
"Here"
"Thanks! I owe you"
"It's fine. Be careful. Love you" he placed a kiss on the top of her head, closing the door after she corresponded his words.
Both boys walked through the hallway to the front door. Remus growing more uncomfortable by the second, feeling like an intruder "Mom will be here in a couple minutes, be good and don't bother your sister unless it's an emergency, okay?"
"Okay! Love you!" Both kids said waving his hands at him from the couch.
"Love you too. Lupe, stop opening doors to strangers" The last thing they heard before stepping out where the mischievous giggles of the two kids.
"Sorry for that. They'll kill me someday" he told Remus with a smile. They walked down the tattered streets of Jaywick, the summer sun cruel above their heads.
"Don't apologize. I didn't know you had siblings"
"Well, you never asked" There were a lot of things Remus never asked about. He suddenly felt extremely dumb. What was he thinking? Showing up to Elliot's doorstep in the middle of the day, asking for a place to stay. He didn't even think they could call eachother friends yet. I mean, they did start talking frequentely last year at Hogwarts, but still. It was clear as day that his house didn't have spare room and he was right to assume that the money wasn't something they could throw in the air either.
How could he call himself a friend when he was just knowing now that Elliot had siblings and was already working at a fucking factory while being seventeen years old. The only people Remus heard worked at a factory were alcoholics and dead beats. Not that Elliot was a dead beat, of course. Fuck, now he felt like an asshole.
And the thing Gia said about their father... Remus had his suspicions. Elliot would show up after the breaks with bruises and cuts on his face and he would always wear long sleeves. He noticed even before he got the courage to even talk to him. And he had learned the signs, after all, he had seen them on Sirius before he ran away from home after 4th year. Even though Elliot always dismissed his subtle questioning by saying that he got into a fight, wich wasn't that hard to believe since he ended up in Minnie's office every other week. But deep down, Remus knew something else was up. And there he was, on the mouth of the wolf.
This was the first time Remus was able to see Elliot's arms and he was sure the boy didn't even notice, or they would be covered by now. He had some cigarrette burns and a couple scars, and tattoos Remus had never seen before. A flower on one of his biceps, the other one had a heart crossed by an arrow that said "Mom" on the middle, it looked like it was written by the shaky hands of a child, a cartoonish picture of a deer on the inside of his right forearm -Remus inmediately thought of James- that looked straight at him, a simple apple above his shoulder blade and one he couldn't quite see peeking from one of the tank top sleeves. Then there was the ones he had seen before: the single spike of a barbed wire on the left side of his neck and multiple on his hands.
"I won't get you in trouble for staying in your house, right?" Remus asked, concerned. Elliot looked at him, something on his face that couldn't be read, but then smiled like he always did. Like he was perfectely fine and walking through life was like a fresh summer breeze.
"Don't worry about it"
He did worry about it. But he was also so desperate. Elliot wasn't his first choice, of course. Sirius and the Potters were on a family trip to Spain, even if they let Remus stay with them, Godric's Hollow was almost four hours away from London, Peter was visiting some cousins in Germany. By the time the apology letters came around, Remus coudn't think of anyone else than Elliot. Sweet, puppy-eyed, troubled Elliot.
Remus wanted nothing but to catch up with him. Not only about the month they been away, he wanted to know everything about Elliot's life and tell him about the internship and learn about bending car parts only because he did that at a factory. He figured they would have time for that later and a whole another year of classes ahead of them. Now he had to get to the office in order to actually have something to talk about later.
They arrived to the bus stop in silence. Elliot greeted the driver and paid for both their passes -after an embarassed Remus told him he didn't have anything smaller then ten's. I mean, really?-
Twenty minutes later they stepped out of the bus onto the streets of London "You know how to get there, right?" Elliot asked Remus. He nodded. Elliot gave him a piece of paper "This is the address to the factory. Meet me there at seven and we'll go home together. Okay?" He talked to Remus like he was one of his siblings. And Remus realized that it was something he often did, but never tought much of it. Now it made sense why.
"Okay. See you at seven"
"See you at seven"
They parted opposite ways. Remus turned around to watch Elliot put the headphones over his ears, arms now covered by gray fabric, beated down black boots against the pavement.
He looked beautiful. And so different and far away from him.
