Been MIA. Had a shitty year. But I'm gonna be okay.
Because I did this last year...
Day 1/17 of Winter Vacation spent lying around with Anna, cleaning and watching Christmas movies plus Jumanji. Â And going to our friends Christmas party. Â And realizing that my boots have sprung a leak.
Day 2/17 spent going to the Toronto Antique Market (and not buying anything) and shopping for Christmas presents and socks. Â And then the TTC was a jerk to us and then our sink clogged. Â And then Anna baked the pieces of our future gingerbread house and I fell asleep on the couch,

This is me.
I’ve been out for 8 years and it is still nausea inducing and upsetting to bring up my experience with homophobia or gently call someone out for something.
When does this get easier?
Wrote my leap year letter to myself today. When I open it I'll be 31. When I wrote the first letter, I was 11. It's fun to take a leap into the future for an hour.

John Williams - Rey’s Theme
Because this movie was so good and I really like Rey’s little tune.  It kind of sounds like a christmas carol, but I like that.
Going to an empty quirky ice cream parlour at 10pm in January is more depressing than you'd think. Dutch Dreams. January, 2016. Toronto.

Winter is temporary. Winter is temporary. Winter is temporary. Winter is temporary. Winter is temporary. Winter is temporary. Winter is temporary. Winter is temporary. Winter is temporary.
Queer Lady Cinema: Carol
I saw Carol over the Christmas break with my lovely lesbian wife.
I went into seeing Carol without knowing anything about the story itself. Â All I knew was that it was based on a pulp novel written by Patricia Highsmith, the lesbian author of the Talented Mr. Ripley.
Carol is a period piece about a love affair between a shop girl in her early 20′s and a woman who is attempting to leave her husband.
The movie didn’t affect me as much as I thought that it would, apparently the novel is really in the head of Therese (the younger woman) and I really think the movie would have benefitted from some voice over.  Therese was pretty had to read.  The film mostly made me think about how things have changed since the 60′s (when the film takes place) and how things also haven’t changed.  The flirting scene near the beginning of the movie (that the picture to the top of this post) could have been from 2015.  Queer women often aren’t out, even in 2015, and are often not visible even when they are out.  Secret flirting between women is my favourite and is super hot.
It was interesting that most of the people in this movie seemed pretty sure of their identities and approached it without much baggage and that it was more outside forces that were making things difficult.
I didn’t love this movie, but I am still thinking about it almost a week after seeing it.  So that counts for something.
Day Off 11/11
Back to work tomorrow.  Spent the morning going to Glory Hole Doughnuts for breakfast, walking along Queen West and then going to Poutini’s for lunch.  We went out shopping for some stuff, but couldn’t find any of what we wanted.  Anna and I worked on post crossing post cards, cleaned our apartment and listened to Serial.
I’m actually looking forward to going back to work.  Back to the regular routine. It’s nice to have a real workplace, especially one that treats its employees well and even gives us a real christmas break.  I think about so much of the time I was writing this blog I was having so much trouble getting a job, just because the economy was so awful, and I feel really lucky to have that part of my life solid right now.
Day Off 10/11
Spent watching The Santa Clause with my parents and then helping them go through storage and get rid of stuff. Â Then Anna and I went for a walk on the Danforth, bought a toboggan and made salmon for dinner.
Day Off 9/11
Spent recovering from NYE, sleeping, eating junk food and then Sushi. Â Watching the NHL Winter Classic and planning out 2016.

Day Off 8/11
Spent walking on the Beaches board walk and ringing in the new year with friends.
Day Off 7/11
Spent pretty much doing nothing. Â Watching movies (like WE ARE THE BEST!) and lying around. Going to Grassroots and the Big Carrot on the Danforth and making bread.
