Don’t forget that from the 1st to 7th of December is IBD Awareness Week.
This is my life on the daily!!
There is never a happy medium when you have IBD, you’re either weak from malnutrition because your body wont absorb anything or you’re mad bloated from that tiny bit of gluten you ate. #thatspoonielife

When the nurse tries to talk me through a simple blood draw...
Not knowing I’ve done it a few hundred times before…
it’s okay to say no. it’s okay to say not today. it’s okay not to give a reason. it’s okay not to have a reason other than taking care of yourself. you are allowed to take care of yourself. you don’t need to have people in your life that have hurt you. you don’t have to hurt yourself. you don’t deserve pain. you are allowed to take a break from fighting and just focus upon yourself. there is nothing wrong with being selfish. selfish is sometimes a good thing. if you’re not selfish once in a while, you’ll crumble. you cannot be everything to everyone, so cut yourself some slack, and don’t try to be.

This might be the most accurate thing I've ever seen.
CHECK THIS SHIT OUT
This is a emergency medical bracelet, but WAY MORE AWESOME. It’s a fucking USB so that EMTs can take it and plug it into their on board computers to give them direct access to your medical files. It’s called EPIC-id and they are sold here
The future is now. …Of course the black is sold out.
i’ve seen a lot of spoonies commenting this already, but EMTs really don’t know what to do with these, and obviously in an emergency you won’t be able to explain. getting a traditional alert bracelet is a good idea, although having this with everything on it can be great for other instances–new doctors who ask for a full run-down of medications and doses, for example.
I’m currently an EMT student, and my instructors are required to be in service in my county. Several of them are also older and out of touch with technology. Yet they ALL spoke very highly about these bracelets/necklaces. It’s almost condescending and very insulting that you state that EMTs “don’t know what to do with these”. It’s not exactly difficult to put two and two together. Amazingly, we know about these things, and specifically look for these aids. Incredible, huh?
lmao not like my experience with EMTs has any bearing here tho right?? i have the USB medical alert bracelet and an EMT has never known what to do with it, so sorry but i’m not being condescending, a lot of EMTs genuinely don’t know what to do with it–they don’t even know what it is. i didn’t go and trash any EMTs, i’m just saying, for safety reasons it’s a good idea to have a traditional alert bracelet. what, would you rather someone die or be injured?? i think that telling people that EMTs don’t know something is more important than your ego.
and i’m not the only one whose had this experience, and it wasn’t a one off experience, so don’t tell me it was just an older EMT who was out of touch with technology. EMTs don’t know what to do with these.
wear a traditional medical alert bracelet. keep your info in your wallet and on your phone.
I cannot disagree here. My brother is a paramedic and I work with an EMT and they both said that in an emergency, this isn’t going to help. But I really did find it helpful at the hospital when seeing several docs a day and I was able to just pop it into their computers and pull up a copy of my history for them.

Disabled Person: I can’t do this.
Ableist: Yes you can. Quit using your disability as an excuse. The only disability in life is a bad attitude.
Disabled Person: I can do this.
Ableist: Then you’re not really disabled. You’re just faking, which is offensive to actual disabled people.
