We Need to Talk About Daeron (2011)

Ok recusing myself from speaking on Claudia in fandom, engaging with discourse about her portrayal, and expecting anything else from her story because at this point I am self-harming myself by continuing to hope for a compelling narrative while rehashing what’s wrong with the narrative we have.

Was just hit with a divine vision of Lestat breastfeeding newly-turned Claudia.

The issue l'm having with the elephant of Lestat’s role in the trial is not necessarily the particulars of if he was or was not coerced, but that, regardless of how it played out exactly, and since we're ditching so much of Lestat's backstory exploration in favor of his present day story; this thing not being discussed more seems baffling to me. Like I understand the writers may not want to make it the center of the story but the fact of the matter is that the logical progression of the story they have written. Like it seems obvious to me that Claudia’s murder should be the most defining, and certainly most haunting, moment of his present day. Yet Nicki is his most vocal ghost?? ESPECIALLY with the resurgence of Gabriella. Being a victim of parental incest and being coerced to kill your own daughter, OR being that victim and killing your daughter of your own volition, would in any other story take up so much more space. And right now it’s taking up hardly any.

It just feels crazy to me that we’ve seen more of Daniel mourning and contending with his failings toward his ALIVE daughters than we have seen Lestat do for Claudia whose death, at least in part, he had a direct hand in causing.

Jeyne/Rhaena secret trysts in the Vale’s wilderness under the watchful eye of Sheepstealer. Jeyne always hoping that the next time she’ll find Rhaena dead because she can’t otherwise bring herself to stop. Rhaena becoming more feral every time they meet.

And I know the reason Daniel had to go thirty minutes out of his way to pick up a student at Amherst is because he had struck out with the Smith dykes around his Northampton hotel.
