What does he have that I don't have?
Sorry not sorry.
Spoilers for Brilliant Minds 2.19 and 2.20 below.
The Dead Dads Club
I wrote a companion story for @iboatedhere's Mathematical Constant! I really love that story's exploration of grief, and I wanted to keep writing about it. Thanks, @iboatedhere for permission and support!
The second Josh opens his eyes he knows where he is.
Dark wallpaper that probably came with the house. East facing windows that overlook the water. Books, books, and more books. Not as many ferns as there used to be but signs of life are returning.
He’s exactly where he’s wanted to be for the last seven months; in Wolf’s bed, in Wolf’s room, in Wolf’s house.
Home, he corrects.
Wolf’s place has always felt more like home than his own condo. Warm and lived in. No pressure to put dirty clothes in the hamper right away or color code the closet or squeeze the toothpaste tube exclusively from the bottom.
Being here makes him feel like he can breathe again.

Josh Smiles
Do I need a reason?
I had to winnow it down by only including when he's smiling at/in response to Wolf. But, let's be honest, that's what we care about. I love the visual journey from first ep to last. [Sorry if the alt text is bad. It was hard to describe these. It's basically just Josh smiling while looking at Wolf every time.]
Spoilers for all of season 2 under the cut.
Smiling with his eyes in this first one.
Art on Brilliant Minds
I've always noticed the paintings and art on Brilliant Minds, in the hospital and outside it. The characters talk about art a lot, too, especially in 1x09 (The Colorblind Painter) and 2x09 (The Fire Fighter). Once I started to gather all the art, there was so much, it wouldn't fit in one post, but I winnowed it down.
Spoilers for all of season 2 under the cut.
I love that even in this brief scene from 1x02, the production team put art on the gymnasium wall.
It's hard to get good shots of the art in the hallways of the hospital, but I tried. This is Van in 1x03.
The art Gabriel Ferguson says could kill someone. God. It looks like something you'd buy at Lowe's. It never appears again, so maybe someone took Gabriel's advice and got rid of it.
Sun after rain
I was rewatching episode 2x02 and noticed what Oliver says about Lauren B. recovering from her psychotic episode.
It reminded me of Josh's line in 2x20.
Feels like home
Josh's childhood bedroom has basically the same stained glass window pattern as Oliver's house. No wonder he feels so at home at Oliver's. 😂 I really like the first shot below. It has visual unity and balance, showing the two of them as halves of a whole. The entire room has elements of Oliver in it, which makes it seem like Oliver was a presence in Josh's life, even before they met.
More Similar than Different
When I was watching the finale of Brilliant Minds, I noticed that Josh's room showed how much he and Oliver have in common despite their differences. Their discussion in this scene reinforces that idea.
For example, the decor on Josh's bedroom wall is similar in color and theme to what's in Oliver's office. The geologic time scale vs. the minerals on Oliver's bulletin board.
And, of course, there's a periodic table. And a metronome (it's that little device next to the photo of Josh). So Josh must have played an instrument when he was growing up.

Bronx Gen Elevators
[Season 2 spoilers through 2x18 in later images.]
Since watching Brilliant Minds, I've become fond of elevators. I used to scorn them, and I always took the stairs—even when there were a LOT of them. But now I find elevators warm and comforting, and I feel joy when I ride in them. The weird things our favorite shows do to us.
I think the cinematographers use filters and lighting to alter the colors of many things we see on the show, and the main elevator is one of them. It can be a kind of gentle bluish color or a stark metallic silver, depending on what's going on. Episode 2x15 is brutal. Even the posters have been removed so there's no color at all.
The main elevator is the site of a lot of big moments, heartbreaking to romantic. It's probably most famously where Oliver and Josh make out.
I've only included Bronx Gen elevators in this post, even though there's also Ericka's elevator (which @dancelikeanarchitect will be posting about), the haunted house elevator, and the elevator at the hospital Oliver gets fired from in the pilot.
I put most of them under the cut for ease of scrolling. Info in alt text.
I have officially peaked as an artist 😌✨
Sweater reversal
2x13 and 2x19. The shirt in 2x19 isn't red, but it has those tones, and it looked close enough that it reminded me of the 2x13 outfit when I was watching. Ericka's sweaters in these two eps have a similar thing going on. 2x19 images under spoiler cut in case.
Thorne appreciation
Spoilers for 2x17 and 2x18. Images under the cut.
I love that Thorne is the only one to be totally normal around Wolf when

Bronx Gen hospital gowns
There are so many different patterns of hospital gown at Bronx Gen, and they often reflect something about the patient. I had to be selective with this post because, obviously, there are a lot of patients in gowns on this show... When I went looking for the gowns, I found some beautiful shots. Highlights through ep 2x19.
This pattern is used a lot at the beginning, but later seems to indicate patients who are emotionally significant to Wolf.
This type of pattern is often, but not always, used for younger patients.
They're wearing the same shirt
2x14 and 2x06/2x17
Wolf: You remind me so much of myself.
Charlie: I'm nothing like you, Wolf.
No, you're just wearing the exact same T-shirt and a similarly colored/patterned thing over it.
