More Similar than Different
When I was watching the finale of Brilliant Minds, I noticed that Josh's room showed how much he and Oliver have in common despite their differences. Their discussion in this scene reinforces that idea.
For example, the decor on his bedroom wall is similar in color and theme to what's in Oliver's office. The geologic time scale vs. the minerals on Oliver's bulletin board.
And, of course, there's a periodic table. And a metronome (it's that little device next to the photo of Josh). So Josh must have played an instrument when he was growing up.

WIP Wednesday/ Six/Seven/Several Sentence Sunday
Thanks to @bitbybitwrites for tagging me and to @kurtsascot for making the banner <3
I have multiple WIPs I'm working on right now, all Glee or Brilliant Minds (if you haven't watched it yet and have access, give it a try--it's so good!)
Here are bits of two of the Brilliant Minds one. Shocking no one who has read by biggest fattest fanwork yet (also a WIP), one of them deals with religious themes:
I said this about Brilliant Minds in a chat but now I want to say it for the record:
Today I woke up thinking about the evidence of Josh's character development in the Missing Person episode and Doctor, Interrupted.
As I've often thought, it's amazing how Josh and Oliver, while broken up, both fell in love more deeply and grew to understand each other more deeply. I rewatched the scene in Josh's office where Oliver is mute and can't make eye contact with him. Both immediately after the scene (when Josh is in the hall and Carol shows up), and then in the next episode, it's clear that even though Josh is saddened by this, he is not hurt by this, i.e., he does not take it personally. Where in season one when Oliver lashes out at him, he very much does take it personally.
And I'm not saying it's unreasonable to take these kinds of behaviors personally! What Oliver said in the season one finale was very personal! But Josh has come to a place where he can see that these incidents are Oliver reacting to stress and not actually about Josh. And he comes to care more about the stress/pain Oliver is feeling than about the way Oliver expresses it.
Also I feel like it's very mature/understanding of Josh to ask for/accept Carol's help when Oliver is unresponsive to him. (We don't see a scene of his asking in the episode, but I assume that's what happened; of course it's also possible that the Wolf Pack sent her to Josh's office when they found her; but since Josh seems to be waiting for her, I take it that he specifically reached out to her or there's some combination of both those things going on.) Like, he understands that he cannot give Oliver the level of safety/security he requires to be able to talk, so he gives that space to Oliver by stepping out and bringing Carol in.
He loves Oliver enough to understand and accept that he can't be everything to Oliver. He can't always be exactly what Oliver needs.
But he can try to help Oliver get what he needs.
And that is just making me feel a whole lots of feelings.

It was always you. (watch on youtube)
NOT IN THE HYPERBARIC CHAMBER
But yeah no I’m actually so mad NBC cancelled Brilliant Minds. This beautiful, heartfelt show about mental health, trauma, trust, mental illness, neurological problems, ESPECIALLY about the stigmatized things in these categories, this gorgeous exploration of re-humanizing mental patients that ALSO had BIPOC main characters and a TON of really fun queer rep… and NBC said no, actually, fuck all of you, and shut it down. I’m so ready to throw hands about this, show me the petition to bring it back NOW.
Watched the Brilliant Minds finale and fuck I'm going to miss this show so much 😭
But I'm going to focus on what I loved. Because while I'm sad about never getting the story lines/character arcs that were being set up, it was still an absolutely banger episode that had me doing this the whole time

"I can fix him"
"I can make him worse"
I think his problems are entertaining and I want to be around when he implodes
oliver, josh and carol needed a break for many reasons, they very much deserved a vacation, and the thing they mostly needed a break from was the new york fucking winter!
