I don't know why a lot of people say they are surprised by how good Shugo Chara Jewel Joker is compared to other magical girl sequels. A lot of said magical girl sequels didn't have well written original manga either, they were completely carried by their anime adaptations, and still lacked in some aspects tbh. If you read the Shugo Chara manga as it's own thing you'd realize it is obviously very different compared to other magical girl works and was actually a well planned story with a goal of conveying a message, regardless of it having an anime or not. The last arcs of the manga that weren't adapted into the anime was literally the biggest proof of this.

Kukai picking up Ikuto at the airport is so funny to me, like based on that little interaction I am 100% sure Ikuto doesn't even know Kukai's name
