This is what wille’s been feeling this entire time, this is what he was repeating to himself over and over again ever since Erik died (probably even before that), he thinks he has to be able to handle everything, the scrutiny, the pressure, the traditions. Up until this point he was aware there were other options, but he never fully thought about it, abdication was never an option for him, he kinda assumed this is how his life was supposed to be. His ideas and words in this scene are a reflection of what he’s been taught his entire life: “no matter what, you have to be able to handle this, this is your responsibility”, we even see in s1 ep1 how Erik himself tells wille ‘he has to stop being selfish’.
