Itβs well known that Tom became quite creative with his performance and his input into scripts and production, and Lis was his willing accomplice. βI donβt think we got so creative until we felt completely secure, I think that would be after The Ark in Space. The example I always pick out is the one from Pyramids of Mars. We had to walk out from behind a corridor pillar and then run back and hide again. Tom said to me, βLis, you love films donβt you? Remember that Marx brothers thing where all three walk out and they turn and go back the same?β And then, as he always did, he called up to the gantry where the director and the vision mixer were. 'Sir,β heβd say because they like you calling them 'sirβ, 'Donβt you think it would be a terribly good ideaβ¦β And then youβd hear on the cans of whoever was next to us 'Get them over there for Christβs sake!β And then the person on the cans would politely say 'Wonderful idea but no time, would you mind moving over there?β And Tom said to me 'Would you do it?β and I said 'Yeahβ and weβd have to do it in one, and we did it. It was great and they left it in."Β
