Hi I'm Sean, founder of Haunted Bees Productions, the only video game studio! We've made a bunch of small games for game jams, a couple de-listed mobile games, and everyone's favorite puzzle game Blockara (itchio, Steam)! We're currently hard at work on Uprooted: Meal Replacement Game, a turn-based strategy game about growing food and throwing it at tech start-up nerds.

I'll try to use this account as a mix of game development posts and reblogs, a development log, game updates, reblogs of other people's games that look cool, and whatever else seems appropriate. The pause menu: gateway to a world of even more submenus. Sometimes a player just needs to learn about the people of the world, build up their farmland, or sort their favorite items for easy access in battle, and Uprooted has the menus you need to do just those very things!

An RPG with lots of text needs a nice, big, readable font (I'm still traumatized by Xenoblade Chronicles X)! Today I increased the game's default font size (now well above the recommended 28px), and people who need even bigger text can increase the size, too!

Most of the game works fine with the maximum supported size, but a few of the more compact menus needed some changes to fit everything and still look good. Fortunately, with my in-progress Godot Accessibility Suite, it's very easy to handle that!

Remember, kids: accessibility is important!

Captions!

When I first started working on the Godot Accessibility Suite, someone asked what the best way to provide caption support was. Now, I'm not sure if I have an answer for the best way, but there's definitely an answer for a way!

Fully and easily customizable captions that can sync with any audio files using the common .srt format used for subtitles and captions on sites like YouTube! But the work has only just begun!

If you're a Godot game developer who cares about accessibility, please try out this add-on and/or contribute to it! And if you're a Godot game developer who doesn't care about accessibility, try it out anyway and see just how easy it is to make your game more accessible!

Accessibility is Important!

The only thing better than a turn-based farming combat game is an accessible turn-based farming combat game, which is why development of the Godot Accessibility Suite is being done alongside the game. Due to some recent interest on Bluesky, I'm trying to give it a bit more attention now. The end result will be a better game, and more tools for everyone to make better games!

And if you're also a Godot game developer reading this and want to give the in-development add-on a try, there's no time like the present, as I'm actively looking for feedback!

Season's Greetings!

Unlike veggies, which can only be harvested once, you can harvest Fruits from Trees many times before they die, making their longer growth times worth the wait! But be warned: most trees will wither up in the Winter and won't bear fruit again until the Spring!

In Uprooted: Meal Replacement Game, time can be your friend and enemy, so be careful what you plant, and when you plant it!

Don't Stand So Close to Me!

The closer you are to an enemy, the more damage you deal, but also the more you receive, so it's important to position yourself carefully! But if you know you've got a big attack ready for the next turn and your opponent does not, it might be a good time to use Velthur's Sicklerang ability to pull your enemy closer!

Each party member in Uprooted: Meal Replacement Game has their own unique abilities, so build your party to make the perfect team for your play style!

Oh, bee-have!

You may have already learned this the hard way if you've ever worn banana-scented sunscreen or lotion in public, but bananas have the same chemical in them that bee stingers release to tell other bees "hey, I just stung something, y'all should, too!" So you could say the smell of bananas drives bees... banangles!
