Best to take some medicine with that stomach pain and drink some water. Try to lie down as well for a while too.

How do you feel about Fukuzawa?

He is alright. A dear friend of mine but no more than that. I have expressed my attraction towards him before but I sadly have been rejected. That's alright I cannot force more so we shall remain odd friends and business rivals.

I've been thinking about demoting Chuuya. He fell a little short on the monthly report.

....
It's a joke Chuuya no need to worry you're not getting demoted. It was merely a bad joke.
a height joke?
Yes. It's not that original.
i am aware.
I know.

A connection seems to be made, though it's blurry and any sound there may be doesn't come through.
It takes a moment, but eventually it seems to stabilize, the pages tremble as if alive for a couple minutes and take some time to go back to a motionless state.
Suddenly, a phone sounded, it was a call, the number was a regular Japanese phone number, however, if one looked closer, it was like the lines of the numbers blurred together, making it impossible to actually read what phone number it was.

mori stares that his phone squinting his eyes and trying to make out what's in front of him
This is odd.
he mumbled to himself before answering
he lifted the phone to his ear
Hello?
There's silence on the other end of the line for a few seconds, there's a faint buzz that's eventually fading.
The line remains silent for a few more seconds until a very familiar voice replies in a polite tone.
"Hello. May I know who it is that I'm having the pleasure of speaking to?"
Why hello this is Mori speaking and who is this calling me?
mori leans back in his chair already feeling suspicious of the phone call and who is on the other end
"...This is orphanage xxxxx, you're speaking with its director, Mori Ougai."
What a coincidence. We both share the same name and same voice. Before I ask any further questions on that may I ask what makes you call the Port Mafia? We don't get casual calls like this everyday.
"Well you see, an old child that used to be under my care left this very particular notebook that my son found. And because of the... shakiness, of the handwriting, he left it to me to decode, which is how I found this number. But as one can imagine, I didn't want to risk my son coming into contact with someone unsavory so I decided to check first. Imagine my surprise when, indeed, the number contacted me to that place."
I see what this is then. Unfortunately I don't know who the old child is that wrote my number into that notebook unless I'm given details on what they look like. Although you are smart like me when it comes to your son. This place isn't safe and you know that. Checking before he does was wise. So is that all to why you decided to call me? Some mysterious kid I am unaware of wrote my number down in a hurry.
"Well naturally you wouldn't know, he was under my care long ago, he's no child anymore. And it is only my responsibility to look after my son. As for my calling, you'll understand that that child was a rather... particular case, he always did everything for a reason, and for all I know he predicted up until this very call. As a member of that place you surely would be familiar with that type of person."
We have many like that in the Port Mafia now these days which makes it hard for me to guess. I would like to say Dazai but that feels like a too obvious of a guess. I can't think of any other individual that would be in such a hurry to write down a code that has my specific number for you or your son to eventually find and call.
"Well congratulations on almost getting the correct answer I guess. Of course you'll know about him, that young man always had an eye or a hand in anything. As if it was not clear enough with that entire fiasco that was his orchestrated suicide, given everything my son told me about and taking into account everything he didn't told me about."
So it was Dazai then. Tell me was he successful this time or is he still breathing to this day in your world? I am curious to know after all.
"As dead as he always wished to be. And of course he had to do it in front of my son. And whoever Tantei-san is too I guess. I swear, as much as I hold the memory of Dazai-kun close I deeply disagree with his teaching philosophy, especially because he used it on my son."
You keep mentioning this son of yours yet you haven't spoken a single word about what he's like. What is your son like? Is her biologically yours or adopted? So far from what I have gathered from this conversation is that you seem to be very protective about your son. It makes me curious.
"Ahh, my lovely son, as awkward as he is to call me his father. He's adopted, I don't really think I could bring myself to touch a woman like that, and the idea of sperm donation and similar practices has never caught my attention. If I had to describe him, he's someone deeply troubled by his past and a guilt more crushing than most could handle. Though under my guidance he's been recovering quite well in my opinion. And it's only natural I'm protective of him, he's my one and only child, he's grown on me like mold on favorable conditions. If only I could offer him more than I currently can due to my status."
That... That sounds lovely actually.
for once Mori wasn't being a creep
Well you're far much more lucky then I am. I wish I could have the same but my duty as boss calls of course. I'm glad you have a chance at least.
"Yes... I am grateful for this, for all Dazai-kun did, it's thanks to him that I can have this, this freedom, peace, and my son."
You could hear a certain mix of fondness and nostalgia in his voice, though he mostly sounded calm. Content.
I'm delighted you have that chance. I'm sure your Dazai's sacrifice will certainly not be forgotten.
„. . . Do you bury your guilt with your kin?"
🍷Mori posting🍷
Now whatever could you be talking about? I don't have a kin.
he looks nervous

My dearly beloved boss, how upset would you be if a door...fell off it's hinges during an experiment that had no correlation to the door being damaged

I had a feeling it was you when I heard that explosion go off today. Fear not this is to be expected from you by now. If it's the same door that we replaced 5 months ago then no need to worry we'll have that covered. Unless it's one of the metal doors then that certainly raises an eyebrow.
No, no! Of course its the same door, nothing to worry about, truly.
And the explosion had no correlation.
Wait are you saying the explosion that happened around 3pm today wasn't from you?
..
It WAS, but it wasn't my fault the door fell.
So let me get this straight. You caused an explosion in your lab today as expected but that explosion wasn't the reason why the door fell? So what caused the door to fall then?
..
Wish I could answer— maybe something unrelated since metal doors are rather tough—anyways, I'm gonna go and clean up real quick!
As long it's cleaned up I won't bother questioning any further.
