i do feel like phannie spaces are even more hostile to trans women than other fandoms and my only hypothesis for why that might be the case is because the majority of dan and phil's fans were afab and very young at the time of their highest popularity, so statistically speaking it makes sense for there to be a higher number of transmasc phannies. and like any time a poll goes around, it does seem like this is true but i have to wonder if the very very low numbers of trans women are not because dan and phil's content somehow doesn't appeal to them, but rather because they don't feel welcome enough to stay...

i didn't comprehend how isolating it must feel to be transfem in this community until the dangender discourse started and i saw so many people that i previously respected say the nastiest things in response to (harmless btw) rpf speculation in a community that was built on rpf speculation. why was it sooo different to talk about dan soft launching the gay over the years vs. the potential that he was soft launching.. pronouns? after years and years of talking about hating the concept of gender and being a formless blob etc etc? why was it SUCH a negative thing to even imply that he isn't a cis male? and most of the people pushing back the hardest were transmasc... that was shocking to me. the casual transmisogyny happening in all of the dangender discourse left a bad taste in my mouth still to this day. because dan howell was not reading or caring about those tumblr posts (and if he was reading it, that was his prerogative to search it out) but trans women DID read it and i can only imagine how hurtful it must have been. for the record i dont even think dan is nonbinary or trans i think he has a complicated relationship with masculinity and how it intersects with his sexuality but even me saying that is parasocial speculation, it's no different than if someone said they think dan is a binary trans woman. like it's all just speculation from someone who does not know dan irl and it's only harmful if you bring it to the person's doorstep and/or attempt to "prove" your opinion is correct
