Been thinking about James Bond because of the game that came out and how he's not the greatest spy if everyone knows him, but like what if knowing him didn't help at all.
Imagine the whole underworld knowing of a spy's existence and expertise yet still being unable to stop them. Pages of failsafes are made in the unfortunate case that spy decides to snoop around but they fail every single time.
I'd be like the espionage equivalent of a nuclear bomb. Knowing it's coming doesn't help at all and even in the unlikely event that you manage to survive the initial blast, you probably won't survive the fallout.
