Current studies of D NO BODY

In 2015 Dario Tortorelli started D NO BODY, a series of solo performances/installations with the objective to create the ideal self through the influence of another. Society often pushes us to conform to conventions without knowing or questioning our real identity. The first three chapters of this series refer to icons, pop culture, surrealism, fashion, the holy and the sacred. 

With D NO BODY 5, Dario wants to explore new ways of representing an image by abstracting the body. Can we omit the body in a physical performance? Dario wants to evoke the feeling of presence in a performance that is as effective as if the body was present, even though it is physically removed from our sight.

D NO BODY is a series of solos, performances or installations, becoming the character of ROMEO HEART through the body of another.

In this process we quest what identity is, and how our surroundings and virtual reality can influence our path of becoming who we are. We equally touched the subject of how we relate to an image, in shape, colour and dimension. Adoring it, embodying it, to eventually becoming it. One of the main tasks was to list desired fictive characters, people or idols that marked our lives until now. Each individual list became the tool to create the movement material. Performing these movements, physically and emotionally during the whole journey we finally come to a common ground, a space in between infinite dimensions. Our bodies are one container, endlessly transforming as planets around the sun.

In my work I am constantly searching to develop my perfect image, a character called ROMEO HEART. It is my desire to become this character, however it is at the same time something that will never be achieved. After having explored the image of ROMEO HEART during my visual and performing studies, I took a next step in my artistic research and became interested in searching this perfect image and gender transformation through the body of another (performer).
