Since I watched Suspiria 2018 today, I’ve become absolutely fascinated by Damien Jalet’s choreography. It’s so raw and primal and full of a lot of elegantly controlled falls, sharp angles, and stilted, hard movements. And it seems like guttural breathing is a Thing in his work, too?
This one’s my favorite, but Les Médusées is also surreally beautiful.

Blade Runner ''Voight Kampff'' test machine
Cyborg artist Joe Dekni with a sonar implant that allows him to perceive objects behind him
Hard to believe I'd never seen DECODER (1984) until now. West German proto-cyberpunk with an incredible list of credits, including cameos and soundtrack work by William S. Burroughs and Genesis P-Orridge, Christiane F. as a dreamy goth girlfriend, and Sleazy as second unit director. Abrasive, art-damaged nonsense with atmosphere to burn.

DIY instrument by Sleazy
Stamp Axe Vol.6 No.1: Instrumains / Handstrument was a bilingual experimental art magazine / cassette project published in 1990 by Pier Lefebvre. The edition included:
30 artists who built their own musical instruments
participants from 8 countries via the Mail Art network
2 chrome audio cassettes, 90 minutes each
a 72-page publication (texts & graphics)
2 postcards featuring paintings by Henriette Valium
a case/box with a centerfold handprint by Gisèle Trudel
a limited edition of 250 copies (sold-out)
The project focused on handmade and recycled acoustic/electronic instruments (“instrumains / handstruments”), emphasizing self-generated sound and DIY sonic experimentation.
The archive record from e-artexte describes recordings made with instruments built from recycled materials and objects, accompanied by French and English texts discussing experimental sound practices.
It appeared within the broader Stamp Axe series published in Montreal during the late 1980s and early 1990s.
