On cognitive biases distorting how we see womenās representation
Why do people think the world is "feminised", even though women are still significantly underrepresented in politics, leadership and media representation?
Because people don't notice the absence of women, but they notice the presence of any women, no matter how few.
"When underrepresentation is the everyday default, even the presence of a lone minority can start to feel like āplenty,ā while a small handful may already seem like ātoo many.ā Our stereotype-saturated minds can pull a strange trick: weĀ overestimateāāāsometimes wildlyāāāhow many women and minority-group members are actually present in a given environment.
In another relatively recent studyĀ published inĀ BMJ Open, more than 400 medical professionals in the UK were asked to estimate the proportion of women across different areas of medicineāāāgeneral practice, medical specialities, surgical specialitiesāāāand in various professional roles. Yet despite working in the field themselves and presumably having a better grasp of its demographics than the general public, participants consistently overestimated the number of women in nearly every category.3Ā The largest distortion occurred in surgery, where respondents estimated that women made up around 25% of surgery consultants/GPs, when the real figure was only 14%. And, as in the PNAS study, both female and male participants showed comparable levels of overestimation.
A similar pattern emerged inĀ a 2018 Ipsos survey. Nearly 20,000 respondents across 27 countries were asked to estimate the percentage of women holding top CEO positions worldwide. Their average guess? 20%. The actual figure? Just 3%."

President Donald Trump got a lesson in the law of unintended consequences when pranksters used the tarp that's hiding the removal of his name from the Kennedy Center to frame vintage video clips of him gallivanting with Jeffrey Epstein.
"Yesterday night a protester projected what we all wanted on the tarp of the Kennedy Center," X user @sarrah_bellus wrote Sunday morning on X, along with a recording of the video as it was projected onto the center's doors.
The stunt appeared to be the work of a group of anti-Trump street artists known as VJayBombs, which posted a montage of video clips on Instagram that show the Kennedy Center was among several targets during a spree of similar projections onto Washington, D.C., landmarks and locations.

The world's first trillionaire received 38 Billion Dollars from the US government. But, no, we won't have enough money to pay for school lunches for your kids. Or give you healthcare.
1. The court holds Google responsible for statements made by its AI, considering them Google's statements (search engines have limited liability for results in their engine as they're the words of other sites/companies/people), meaning when their AI lies/hallucinates they're liable for the defamation/harm resulting from those statements.
2. Google's defense that customers are generally aware of the lack of reliability and are responsible for fact checking was dismissed. As the court pointed out, that would "significantly diminish" AI Search's stated purpose and it can't be distinguished from Google's business practices/statements as a search tool.
3. Studies have found about 91% of Google's everyday AI responses are accurate, leaving millions of searches per HOUR with potential liability for falsehoods. 56% of correct responses weren't supported by the sources the AI listed. Both of which mean Google is now liable for a LOT more AI "errors."
4. Google was held liable for 80% of court costs in this case and this precedent is expected to reverberate around the world. This is a massive shift from the 3rd-party search provider role Google has previously played and it comes right as they've tied ALL searches to their AI search.
Stranger Things season 1: beneath the superficial image of āpeace and prosperityā in 1980s small-town America, there was the painful legacy of countless atrocities committed by the American government in the name of āfreedom.ā
Stranger Things season 4: evil Russians (not Soviets) have sent our All-American Hero to the gulags which apparently still exist in the 1980s and itās up to us to save him šŗšøš¦ š«”
Thereās probably a term that already exists for this but if there isnāt Iām gonna call it āRamboficationā in honor of its probably most well known instance: Rambo First Blood was about a soldier, John Rambo (thatās his actual name Iām not doing a bit), returning home from the Vietnam war, so traumatized by war that he brought the war home with him to a small town, unable to adapt to life without strict military discipline and hierarchy. Subsequent Rambo movies were about how John Rambo was the only supersoldier tough enough and patriotic enough to kill faceless hordes of dastardly foreign commies.
Ergo, āRamboficationā is the process of a series starting with a relatively nuanced or subversive narrative before its sequels become a shallow embrace of the very narrative it originally subverted. It happens surprisingly often!
In the sociological sense, recuperation is the process by which politically radical ideas and images are twisted, co-opted, absorbed, defused, incorporated, annexed or commodified within media culture and bourgeois society, and thus become interpreted through a neutralized, innocuous or more socially conventional perspective.

Epstein file says Trump āknew and funded underage sex partiesā at his golf course
An FBI tip memorialized in the Epstein files alleges Trump knew about underage sex parties at a Trump golf course.
By Natasha Yee
June 9, 2026
An FBI document from the U.S. Department of Justice Jeffrey Epstein files contains extraordinary allegations involving President Donald Trump, Jeffrey Epstein, and a Trump-owned golf course ā claims that appear to have originated from a single tipster who contacted federal authorities in 2021.
The FBI intake report does not identify the golf course referenced by the caller. However, the allegation appears in files connected to Epstein, whose sprawling Palm Beach mansion served as the center of many of the activities that ultimately led to his conviction and the federal sex-trafficking investigation that followed.

An attorney who defended Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in his impeachment trial has endorsed Paxton's Democratic opponent in the U.S. Se
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) ā A lawyer who represented Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton for nearly a decade over accusations of corruption and securities fraud is supporting Democrat James Talarico ā and not his former client ā in one of the biggest U.S. Senate races.
Talarico on Monday drew attention to his campaign winning the endorsement of Houston attorney Dan Cogdell, who was part of Paxtonās defense team during the Republicanās historic impeachment trial in 2023 that ended in acquittal.
The legal troubles that shadowed Paxton in public office in Texas are a central attack line of Talaricoās campaign, though in his endorsement, Cogdell didnāt cite concerns about his clientās past.
Cogdell said he didnāt dislike Paxton as a person and felt that Texas lawmakers were right to eventually acquit the attorney general. But as a politician, Cogdell said, Paxton is too focused on appeasing President Donald Trump.
āI worked my ass off for the man for nine years,ā Cogdell said in an interview with The Associated Press. āBut thatās a different inquiry. My obligation to Ken ended at the courthouse steps and my obligation as a citizen is to do what I think is the right thing.ā
"As I would not be a slave, so I would not be a master. This expresses my idea of democracy. Whatever differs from this, to the extent of the difference, is not democracy."
