Here is a set of lyrics, purportedly found in a draft of the screenplay for Aladdin using Howard Ashman and Alan Menkenâs original score, dated July 19, 1990. If correct, this draft was written by John Musker and Ron Clements, who wrote a few drafts when they signed on to direct the film, as the previous Linda Woolverton draft included no songs and Howard himself never wrote an actual draft.
These lyrics were given to Aladdin Central moderator Calluna by âDavid,â who had access to Disney Animation Research Library, which contains the script.
[Jafar and Sinbad (âthe parrotâ) are observing the ceremony through a magical vision on the floor of the cell. Jafar is clutching the lamp tightly. The genie is on the other side of them looking very morose.]
PARROT: "Is it time, your worship?"
JAFAR: "Letâs not rush this⌠I want to savor it⌠I want to enjoy every delicious momentâŚ"
[The song starts out quiet and intense.]
JAFAR: (sings) Let's take it slow
And make it last
PARROT: We'll lay him low
JAFAR: But not too fast
PARROT: Now where to start?
JAFAR: Let's not be rash
PARROT: I quite agree
JAFAR: (to Genie) Let's take the 'stacheâŚ
[The Genie winces, but bows in ascent.
We cut to the ceremony. Aladdin is waving to the crowd when, ZIP, his mustache disappears. Jasmine notices and reacts startled. Aladdin touches his upper lip and realizes it is gone. He feigns a cough to cover up his face.]
PARROT: Let's paint him blue
JAFAR: We could do thatâŚ
PARROT: Or something else?
JAFAR: Let's take the hatâŚ
[ZING! The turbanâs gone from Aladdinâs head. Aladdin feels around for it. A BUZZ runs through the crowd as they notice. Aladdin canât figure out what the heck is happening.
As the song builds, we keep intercutting between the dungeon and the ceremony. Strange things are happening to Aladdin. His hair grows really long, then turns into a mass of FLIES, leaving him bald. Then he is back to normal. He opens his mouth, and out flies a flock of birds. His outfit transforms into that of an arab sheik. Then he is in a suit of armor. Then he is in a gown with a veil. Finally, with a big POOF, he is back to his original rags. The Sultan and Jasmine are shocked. The crowd is LAUGHING uproariously, much to Jasmineâs chagrin.
Bit by bit, Jafar commands the Genie to undo all of Aladdinâs magic. His entire entourage transforms into an army of familiar cockroaches. Abu turns back from an elephant into a monkey. In a mad dash, Abu jumps on the Sultanâs face, trying to get away.
As the song escalates, Jafar is whipping himself up into a frenzy.]
JAFAR: I want wind
I want thunder
I want buildings ripped asunder!
I want hail
I want lightning
And a genie who's quite fright'ning!
[Huge storm clouds billow above the city. WINDS start kicking up. There is LIGHTNING and THUNDER. People panic and run for cover as a tremendous WHIRLWIND rips through the crowd. Canopies are knocked over. Horses and camels are stampeding. Pandemonium.]

Well, itâs finally here! I did all of this by ear using several different recordings of this song, including the one cut from the original film. Aria for a Cow is an animated musical short based on a previously unreleased song by the Oscar winning team of Howard Ashman and Alan Menken (âLittle Shop of Horrorsâ, âLittle Mermaidâ, âBeauty and the Beastâ, âAladdinâ).
When a callow young farmer shows himself to be completely uninterested in the sensitive art of milking a dairy cow, Aria, a bovine diva, along with her singing and dancing back up bulls, belts out a tune demanding to be respected for more than just dairy products. In the end, our young farmer learns to respect the collaborative effort that made Krelborn farms and its cows an award-winning dairy farm.
Earlier today, Disney announced it will be producing a new film adaptation of Mary Poppins, based on the classic P.L. Travers books, 1964 film, and 2004 musical adaptation. Produced by Cameron Mackintosh, the film will be produced and shot on-location in England, with Tom Hooper as a front-runner to direct.
The film will star Anne Hathaway as Mary, Broadway actor Jeremy Jordan as Bert, Hugh Laurie as Mr. Banks, and Kelli OâHara as Mrs. Banks. The film will also feature Ashley Brown and Laura Michelle Kelly as Ellen the maid and Ms. Brill the cook, and Julie Andrews as Ms. Treacher, Mr. Banks childhood nanny. Gavin Lee and Dick Van Dyke are also expected to make cameos.
The film will be written by Julian Fellowes, with new musical material written by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe. Richard Sherman will consult.

The lyrics were almost totally rewritten for Broadway.

I have returned! And I come barring a gift! Here is the prologue to "Into the Woods," as performed in the world premiere production at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego, CA in 1986. Though similar to what would end up on Broadway, the lyrics do feature many differences.
