comic books are like the only medium where it’s widely “accepted” that you can call yourself a fan without ever reading a single comic and it pisses me off

if you say you’re a fan of anime and all you’ve ever seen of it are out of context clips on twitter, you will rightfully be called a poser (maybe. idfk the internet is weird these days)

but you get called a gatekeeper if you ask people to at the bare minimum engage with the source material that they are supposedly a fan of before getting into discussions about it

it’s not “read every comic ever written about this character” because even most comic book fans haven’t done that, it’s “please read more than just a few out of context panels”
