Discarded Band Tees

It’s a funny phrase to put on a t-shirt, but I stopped listening to Art Brut after their second album.

I already had an Olivia Tremor Control shirt, so when I saw them at Lee’s Palace in 2011 I decided to get an E6 shirt. I liked the logo, but over time I think I grew to find it kinda ugly. I don’t really listen to many of those bands anymore.

I regretted buying this shirt basically as soon as the money left my hand. After finally seeing them in 2011 (at the awful Wrongbar), I felt I needed something from the merch table. This was all they really had. I never wore it because it just looks so 2001. In a bad way.

This shirt came with my copy of Crazy For You. I feel like the design was really half-assed. It’s a boring shirt. Could’ve at least used some colour.

Got this at the Sneaky Dee’s show. It looks like the Wipers logo, which I also have on a shirt. Get it?

I never really liked this shirt. I’m sure with all of their psychedelic powers, Tame Impala could’ve come up with something a bit more colourful. This is from the first time they played the Phoenix in Toronto.

I don’t really want to get rid of this, but I already have a shirt from the Clayton Park tour. This is from the band’s reunion show at Lee’s Palace in 2010. They actually were one of my favourite bands in the mid-’90s. Weird how the spelled it “favorite.” I always wanted this shirt to be any colour than black, plus it’s a bit too long.

I bought this the first time the xx played Toronto. It was at the Phoenix opening for Friendly Fires, which seems ridiculous now. I like how simple this shirt is, but over time I got a bit bored with it.

My friend Craig and I hung out with Bleached when they played the Horseshoe. I thought this shirt was pretty rad, but they only had large. I was dumb enough to buy it and learned when I got home that it was HUGE.

This came with the “Surf’s Up” 7″. I never really liked this shirt so I think I only wore it once.

I saw MBV twice in 2008. This wasn’t the shirt I wanted. I settled for it. The one I did want was at the Øya Festival, but it was the equivalent of $50. It had the cover of “You Made Me Realise.” Anyway, when they played Toronto I bought this because there was nothing else. It was always too wide, never looked good.

One of my favourite bands of the 1990s, I had the chance to see Kenickie once at the Reading Festival in ’97. This was the only shirt available. I was hoping for something a little more glam, because that was their style. But I bought it anyway. I never really liked the 3/4 sleeve fit or the colours. 

I’ve always wanted a Suede shirt from the early years. So when a co-worker went and saw them play in London, she offered to pick one up for me. I was happy she chose “Animal Nitrate,” but unfortunately, she bought a large and it never fit properly. Shrinking it didn’t help. :(

Sometimes you just get caught up in the excitement of all these great musicians playing together and you’ll just buy whatever they’re selling.

Sometimes I still like to listen to the Walkmen, but it’s more that most times I don’t like to wear their shirt. For the longest time I thought that was an insect. Turns out it’s ladyfingers. Which is actually cooler. Got this when they played the Phoenix.

I love Japandroids, but I have two other shirts I like more than this one, so I figured I should get rid of one. This is from one of the Post-Nothing tours.
